It sounds like nothing will suffice for you then.

And as far as it being "weak"

I couldn't help but nod as I watched that scene. Of course, Vader would be obsessed with the site of his greatest humiliation and failure. Of course, he would be obsessed with the site of his wife's presumed death. Having read Vader, it's perfectly reasonable; Mustafar is pretty much the foundation for his psyche. He's the scariest kind of sentimentalist.

Seems like its not a coincidence at all. They said the Jedi Temple of Coruscant is built over a Sith Shrine as well. It was probably what helped to cloud the Jedi. It blocked their clairvoyance and allowed the Separatists to remain hidden.

Are you saying that you don't believe that the planet is indeed Mustafar? Because that's been confirmed by Pablo Hidalgo.

If what you mean is that you don't think Vader's castle should be there- well, why not? The Sith are fueled by anger and rage- why not have Vader's castle be where he felt the most anger and rage? His wife was essentially killed by him there, his master mutilated him there, and the planet itself is a bubbling volcano. It's not a good place for Netflix and Chill, but it's great for feeding his dark side.

After all, the Sith aren't particularly always known for embracing southern comforts. Their old homeworld, Korriban, was effectively a desert, rocky wasteland. Then there are sith like Darth Sion who essentially achieved immortality through his rage, at the cost of being in constant debilitating pain (which, in turn, fueled his rage yet more). Or Darth Nihilus, who himself is described a "wound in the force". Palpatine may have enjoyed some of the finer things in life, to be sure, but even look at the layout of his throne room in the Death Star- it's dark, dim, and drab- hardly the gold banners and trumpets we see with royalty on even smaller systems like Naboo, or the red velvet comforts of when he served as the Supreme Chancellor. No, what Palpatine always wanted was not comfort, but power. And for Vader, that power comes through is rage.

Quick question... something that has been puzzling me with the new canon...

Vader has built his home (castle) on Mustafar because the place makes him angry and that is good for his darkside powers. Is this correct?

If that is correct, then we can assume that he deliberately chose Mustafar as it holds bad feelings for him.

But, isn't it assumed he never returns to Tatooine because his mother died there and it has bad memories for him? If we use the same logic for him returning to Mustafar, then surely he would be uber powerful on Tatooine as his mother died there, he was a slave and it's covered with sand that is course, and rough and gets everywhere?

    Any thoughts?
Have I even explained that correctly?

Does the new castle make a mockery of the reason he doesn't ever return to Tatooine? Or am I talking crap?

I guess if we're to play by Star Wars rules, Tatooine is Anakin Skywalker's home, not Darth Vader's. Purposely reminding himself of his former life would be counterproductive. Mustafar is where Vader had suffered his greatest defeat. I reckon that's the logic.

You could also argue Mustafar is where Anakin died and Vader was born from defeat of the "weak" Anakin.

The novel ‘Lords of the Sith’ does a decent job of framing the idea. Vader is actively and earnestly trying to purge himself of connection to the Anakin persona. He wants to divorce himself from any thoughts that might betray that including memories: of his mother; of his wife; of his childhood. Visiting his home planet, unless absolutely necessary, wouldn’t have been constructive to that end. That’s the take I got anyway.
I definitely agree on that point. It’s also the place where he believes he killed his wife and unborn child . . . which is slightly contradictory to my first assertion :)

Tatooine is inhabited, visited quite often and owned by the Hutts. Mustafar, on the other hand, is desolate and Palpie has a huge deal of control over the planet. If you're planning to build a huge black monolith that serves as a base for your right hand it's probably a good idea to place it on a planet that is virtually owned by you. Besides, it helps that he got scorched and nearly killed his wife on this planet.

If I understood correctly, I don’t think the question is ‘why didn’t Vader build his cozy getaway on Tatooine’. It’s ‘wouldn’t whatever keeps him away from Tatooine also keep him away from Mustafar’.

I didn't have time to read through 7 pages but Vader's castle was a nice touch to the lore and I hope we see it further in the ST and beyond.

It's been said that the castle was built on the site where Obi Wan sliced him up, but I can't see it looking at the pictures, can anyone highlight the area it happened?
