It's his second movie I guess, I don't know if there is an english version to be honest.

The other problem with Besson is that he always casts the actress he's dating or the one he wants too.

Have to disagree there. Messenger has a ton of depth and is an example of brilliant cinematography. Same goes for The Professional. Though he has had his misses as well(as have all of accomplished directors).

I was talking about his story treatment not cinematography.

I was hoping to be able to say this movie was so much better than it's 6.9 IMDB score. But instead, it further justifies why I rely on the IMDB score in lieu of other "rotten" sites. The IMDB score is about right. And obviously, I won't be quitting my day job to begin a career as a Box Office prognosticator. I thought this movie would DO better, because I thought this movie would BE better. I was wrong. Luc Besson has lost his touch as a director(much like Roland Emmerich). The really sad part is this property had SOOOOOOO MUCH potential. But thanks to his piss-poor directing job, we've probably seen the last of it. #facepalm. :(

I really liked it, it looks fresh, and the story is great (and colorful). Of course, miss Delevigne :D, and the love story itself - fantastic performance.
I knew there are some comics, and now I'm interested to read them all.

    Cheers

I agree with @Darth Basin The Greatest. The opening was very good. But overall the first half had very uninspired acting and just seemed to drag on. The second half was actually pretty-good. But the poor first half had already tainted it for me. Overall, I actually consider it to be a good movie. But good is a HUGE under-perform for all the potential that franchise had. Besson totally dropped the ball on this one.

Well. Valerian is one of the first comics I ever picked up, and plays a big part in why I love SW, I couldn't be happier for Besson, and hate myself for contributing to the box office failure, looking forward to seeing this movie I am.

Nnno. I refuse to believe that. I can however believe in studio pressure and shareholder pandering, many a great film ruined by financiers. I've seen Luc at his purest, he is a master.

Believe it or not, I'm a Luc Besson fan. And I'd love to give him the benefit of the doubt that the issues with the film are not his fault. But all the issues I saw stem from directing ... so I can't :(

Funny thing is .... after watching the BRD a few times now, i actually really like it. I don't think it is as bad as I originally thought.
