It does, but dare I say hasnt this been absolutely obvious since the very start of the ST.

Absolutely. In TFA it was obvious that Kylo was being presented as someone influenced heavily by an old ideological machine brought back to life by Snoke. Also it is noticeable and certainly not coincidence that the bad guys this time around are so young... They are supposed to represent a new generation of bad guys, young men dissatisfied with the system wanting to create a better world and looking for scape goats to blame for all the world's problems (Hux's speech)

In SW, like in the real world, Fascism never dies. It always lurks in the background waiting for the opportunity to come back, usually taking advantage of grassroots popular movements. Those of us from countries with a history of fascism know this far too well...

Great post. I totally agree. And I think that digging a little bit further into the failure/flaws or the new Republic as well as into the rise of the FO would have been meaningful not just because we need a backstory, but to make these points.
It’s a different story and take if compared to those of the PT. Surely similar but still different and absolutely contemporary. As some of us know all too well.

However there’s the chance that TRoS will finally do that, if I remember correctly some quotes about the FO and about as the Resistance too from VF (if someone can add the latter I’ll be grateful... I do not remember exactly where to look for).

It is also interesting that JJ Abrams mentions "the sins of the father", a biblical reference that alludes not only to Anakin, but also to Luke, Han, Leia, the Republic... Rey, Poe, Finn and Kylo are the "children", the descendants, faced with the challenge to resolve the mess the generation before has left. It has echoes of our own world, knowing our young have inherited from us a planet in which organised human existence is doomed unless something drastic is done to remedy it... Sins of the father indeed.

And I also love how elegantly Abrams explains that these new films are not like the OT, in the sense that they don't look back at the old Republic, that "civilised time" Obi Wan talked about, with nostalgia. In the ST it's all about the future and about freedom. The "kill the past" and learn from the past of TLJ acquires a whole new meaning with this perspective, I think.

@Kylocity thank you but not... I believe I read something in particularly about the resistance back story...
    But I may be wrong.

"Which is to say that, on [Star Wars: The Force Awakens], I felt beholden to Star Wars in a way that was interesting—I was doing what to the best of my ability I felt Star Wars should be."-JJ Abrams

On [The Rise of Skywalker] it felt slightly more renegade; it felt slightly more like, you know, Blast it, I’m going to do the thing that feels right because it does, not because it adheres to something. "-JJ Abrams

He is taking a Note From Rian Johnson also If TFA was Luke Skywalker then The Rise Is Han Solo which is fine we need this going forward Star Wars is going look very different in 2022 Just Saying

I just wish my country would wake up to this and realize before it is to late.

Unfortunatly, it’s true what you say, all of it. After yesterday’s election, for the European parliament, the eastern part of my country is going dark again, as is the land of “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” to the southwest.

My commiserations to France, truly. People forget too easily...
I’m very proud of my country of origin this time around, although we cannot get complacent.

This was a gorgeous issue with photos from Annie Leibovitz. My already high expectations for The Rise of Skywalker are now even higher. I think they're really going to knock this one out of the park.

He has a brown glove on his right hand in the VF shot. I’m assuming as a force ghost he’d have his hand back... Anakin force ghost had his, well, everything back

He most definitely did not have a glove during his dying scene. I remember him grazing that rock in Acht To with his fingers before facing the twin sons... A beautifully acted scene.

Sometimes even trailers show scenes that are unfinished or end up not being in the movie at all. I wouldn't try to read too much into some pics from the set. They're just another tease while we wait.

I did really enjoy seeing Keri Russell's new character though.
