There are a bunch of articles out there this week discussing the new ILM Virtual Reality game experiment called "Trials on Tatooine." Here is a link to one such article at starwars.com:

    http://www.starwars.com/news/step-i...g-trials-on-tatooine-with-ilmxlabs-rob-bredow

Pablo Hildago helped to write this post Return of the Jedi story which mentions Luke preparing to rebuild the jedi order. The game will have you (the player) portraying a young padawan heading to Tatooine for some training. It makes sense for the developers to use Tatooine for a game like this because the visuals and location are so iconic and foundational for star wars, but since Pablo wrote the story and everything new is now official canon across all mediums, I wonder if we will find out that Luke decided to rebuild the new Jedi order on Tatooine. Or does this game take place before Luke has started to do so and this padawan (us as the video game player) just heads there to meet Luke and then go for training. I just haven't seen anyone speculate about this since the ILM VR Game story broke. Any thoughts?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the force back shot in TFA of Luke putting his hand on R2 as he watches what could be his Jedi training center burn looked "deserty" and rocky, not too dissimilar to Tatooine (or Jakku). We still need to figure that part out!

I read that they have no intention of releasing the game properly. So I no longer think the story counts as canon. Also, if I remember correctly, the player is supposed to be Kylo Ren (not Ben Solo) at the start of his Jedi training, and he's an apprentice right away (no youngling stage?). To me, that sounds weird.

Yeah, I don't know what to make of it. However, Pablo Hidalgo takes story and cannon so seriously that I don't imagine he'd risk messing up Star Wars continuity or confuse people on storyline, knowing that info will get out about this game or VR experiment, when he could have just written it a different way to match canon. He lives and breathes this stuff. Anyone else, and I would have only raised one eyebrow :)

Pablo Hidalgo co-wrote it and the story group was consulted on it.

No word I've seen yet that it's canon or it's just being inspired by the canon, like the LEGO story projects.

The write-up on StarWars.com said it they were omitting certain things in their write-up for spoiler reasons.

They are having it set up at various conventions where it can be played/experienced.

But as I've read a bunch of other reviews besides the LA Times one, and they're not mentioning anything about Ben/Kylo Ren in their reviews. So either the LA Times was wrong/read too much into it, or the other reviews are withholding information.

I think in the canon/legend stories; Skywalker sets up the new Jedi Order on Yavin 4 where the former rebel base was.

I also read this planet was the site of a ancient Sith temple so I doubt Luke would want that to be where new Jedi were trained.

I'd doubt Luke would want Tatooine of all places to teach Jedi. Far too many - memories & events. Also, would Luke open up & tell these new students how evil Darth Vader was really a former Jedi & his own father?....

He probably would...I could see Luke teaching the lessons of more light side and dark side teachings to give everything context and perspective so TTtooine would be a place to maybe take for a field trip at the very least ...
