Mods, feel free to move this to the book thread if you wish. I feel this place is okay for this though.

So I read the excerpt of the new Aftermath novel here and I noticed a particular set of paragraphs that caught my attention:

Clearly they are searching for where imperial forces have disappeared to. But do you think that the Republic thinks they have captured Luke? I felt like that final paragraph is somewhat out-of-place with the rest of the excerpt. I found it somewhat odd that Mustafar is mentioned here and nowhere else in the excerpt. I believe he is implying that imperials are potentially here in the outer rim because they once were on Mustafar. But don't you guys find it a little odd he mentions Vader took Jedi here. Could the Republic think Luke was brought here?

Another thing to mention. I could be wrong, but I don't think Jedi have been tortured on Mustafar in the canon before. I remember the Rebel's crew was heading there. Could this be a tease of what's to come from Rebels?

Interesting view. I didn't particularly make that connection when reading it originally, but I suppose it does make some sense.

Still, I'm leaning towards it being more about the Imperials than anything else. If memory serves, the Outer Rim was always sort of the rough-and-tumble section of the galaxy that the Empire had sometimes minimal if no control over, so I took the mention of Mustafar as just being a "hey we know they used this place at one point, maybe they went there" type of reveal.

I kind of like the connection between that and Luke possibly being kidnapped, however the rest of the excerpt before that makes me think Luke and the Mustafar/Vader comment aren't really related, and it's more about finding wherever they're still getting manpower and supplies from.

EDIT: And yeah, as far as Mustafar is concerned, the only thing I remember involving Jedi was the duel in RotS. I could've missed something in a comic or book though, I've not been good at keeping up with all that. But I hope Rebels goes a bit dark with it too.

Clearly, Kanan's knowledge is pre-ANH. Vader probably took the hunted Jedi there to torture and kill them. For him, that would be an ideal place. He suffered there and so will they.

And this is the quote from the book that matches:

I don't think Wedge thinks Luke is caught. There is nothing to indicate that. He hunts for the imperial forces. Otherwise, Luke would be mentioned in the part with Ackbar and Mon Mothma.

Ah good, I had a feeling it might have been mentioned in Rebels, but couldn't remember at which point.

So two sources of canonical material have now referenced Mustafar as a place Jedi go to die. It's where Vader really became the Darth Vader we all know and love. Though I believe it's not canon, it was home to an ancient Jedi enclave and the site of a large war between Jedi and Sith. It was certainly where a lot of Jedi died (The Clone Wars)There's a lot of force history there so should we expect to revisit Mustafar in TFA?

Hold on...those paragraphs that you have in the "quote box"; where did they come from? I don't find them on the page that you have linked.

Maybe we read to much in it. He is looking for Imperials
If Luke was absent he would be looking for him, even if he is imprisoned by Imperials.
If there was more importance to Mustafar and they are looking for Luke wouldn't taht be the first place to visit before
and finally he got what he was really looking for.

I don't think he was looking for Luke, but merely the "vanished" Empire....and he found them the hard way. I think if Luke was missing, that would have been stated...IMO.

Sidious also was kidnapping force potentials and taking them to Mustafar in the Clone Wars series. And is there not concept art of Kylo in a lava type of environment? Maybe he is on a pilgrimage to the places where Vader has been? An errant Dark Knight searching for answers at holy sites. It seems we may yet see the fiery world in TFA.

I don't see any "read an excerpt" option.

that’s where Vader took some of the Jedi long ago. Torturing them for information before their execution. is this how Rebel's end Vader has caught our heros
