Were unused artworks from ep7 actually reserved for ep8?

For example, each day I'm more and more convinced that this one takes place in the 2nd or the 3rd act of the Episode VIII.

Just look at it. It's like Rey just beaten Kylo and Snoke jumps in the battle to turn the tide. I can very well Imagine Luke here somewere too.

These were simply early concept art pieces of ideas that they had for the movie very early on... which evolved into what we have now.

The first picture was created when none of the characters had names... but they knew that the fight would take place. Rey was Kira, Finn was 'Sam' and he was white, and Kylo was some cyborg humanoid thing simply called "Jedi Killer".

The other one was an early concept of the first Jedi temple when Rey goes to meet Luke.

The third picture is a concept piece for Kylo.

And the rest are random vehicles that never got into the film. I would love to see them in Episode VIII.

Have you read "The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens"? It goes over all of these pieces of art I believe. Very interesting to see how they changed all the characters from the beginning to the end, and to see some of the absolutely crazy ideas they had while making the movie.

It's always possible, but some of those concepts made it to the screen (albeit changed). The first one is Kylo defeating Finn and Rey getting the lightsaber. The third one is Kylo conferring with Vader's helmet. The fourth one turned into Kylo's shuttle. But that one, and the other vehicles, could all very well be developed for future episodes and spin-offs. Of course, Rian Johnson will have his own concept artists at work, too!

The concept artists were already at work before any inkling of a story was there.

On IMDB it looks like Johnson has a whole different crew of concept artists working on 8, unless it just hasn't been updated to reflect whichever returning artists are also working on 8.

That first one is supposed to be Finn lying on the ground and not Kylo seen .

Some art/ideas in that book are amazing and its frustrating that they didn't make the film, so I hope they get used at some point.

However, some other ideas and concepts that didn't make it were horrible and silly so I like what we got. Could have been better and more original.

Hope the neat bits get in for 8 or 9.

You know what would be a fun little creative exercise...if we took all of the unused concepts from the book and make our own versions of TFA .

Could they perhaps use the Phantom of the Opera concept art for VIII?

Well they do have some interesting concept art they do not explain in the concept art book. For instance those referring to possible film locations for episode VIII and IX. For instance, they used the Cappadocian spires (Turkey, above Ankara) a number of times, but do not explain they took these from a real world site. It is similar to how they do not really comment on concept art made for the force awakens but which actually ended up as the approved concept for the Star Wars park at Disney World. I also think there is a lot of concept art not shown in the book for a reason.

    Hi all,

I haven't been a regular on here in awhile, so apologies if this has been covered. But given the tradition of repurposing discarded concepts/designs and ideas/names in the new canon (e.g. the Guardians of the Whills in Rogue One, Thrawn and Bendu in Rebels, etc), I was curious what elements we might see repurposed for The Last Jedi?

For example, I'm wondering if we'll see the "Montross" character design that was part of the "Millennium Falcon" leak in the early days of TFA (perhaps for Benicio's character, if he plays a pirate/rogue):

    Concept Sketch - Montross1.jpg
    Concept Sketch - Montross2.jpg

The thread title here is specific to TFA concepts, but please feel free to post concepts/designs/ideas from other SW sources. Curious what people are thinking here!
