RUMOR Westworld's Thandie Newton for a role in Han Solo

Thandie is 44, seems like she might not be the best fit to play Sana Solo during the time period the movie takes place. But maybe she'll play a different sort of "mentor" role for young Han ?

Sana Solo might not even be a part of this film but who knows. A few months ago there were 3 or 4 black actresses rumored to be up for a role and a lot of people were speculating that it was for the part of Sana Solo. That part might have went to Emilia Clark instead. If so, it wasn't for Sana Solo, for obvious reasons. I do think this is for an entirely different character from Sana Solo b/c of the age difference. No, I don't think it's for Rae Sloane either.

 

I don't keep up with the Star Wars comics much, but does it every clarify whether or not Sana Solo was really his former wife?

Very interesting. Does Sana seem interesting enough to be included in a feature film?
(As a side note, I would love to see Dr Aphra in a feature film, for she looks like a well-developed character.)

 

Sana, no. She's there as a character. Maybe it would be interesting to see what the scheme was for her and Han to get "married" but only in (comic) book form. As for Aphra? Yeah, I think she's developed enough as a character. She does have her own comic series and out smarted Vader. That probably won't last though.

 

I don't see why ppl like Aphra so much, maybe ppl just like rogues, I think Sana is just as intriguing as Aphra, yet just a bit more, because she is mysterious and she can handle herself.

 

Following her critically-acclaimed performance as Maeve Millay in HBO's Westworld, actress Thandie Newton is apparently taking an interest in playing a character in the Galaxy Far, Far Away for the currently-untitled Han Solo Star Wars spin-off.

Also worth mentioning is that Variety recently told us that Phoebe Waller-Bridge may be playing a CGI character - they briefly emphasized in their article that they believe this role may be a droid character instead of an alien character. I have to say, as someone who had been feeling rather 'eh' about this particular project (even with Lord and Miller at the helm), the talent that they've assembled over the past few months is definitely winning me over. Hopefully, we'll find out soon if the role that Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott were up for has been filled (fingers crossed for the either of the first two).



Odds are that we should get some casting information before principal photography begins in earnest in March. Currently, a bit of early photography is underway, but given that Donald Glover still has yet to read the script and that Woody Harrelson said that he won't start filming until late March, it's not likely that they're filming anything mind-blowing right now.
