So I know Solo is (sadly) underperforming at the box office, which I think can be attributed to a variety of issues that don't have to do with the film itself.

BUT one thing I've noticed at a couple toy sections at stores is that the Solo merchandise is pretty much picked clean (there are still plenty of Rose Ticos.)

I found 1 Qira with a paint defect on it and no Han Solos. There were a couple falcons left. Most of the remaining SW merch was TLJ stuff.

Does anyone have any similar or different observations about the toys? What are you seeing at your toy locations? Are the Solo toys flying or stalling on the shelves where you live?

To be honest, bar the Lego sets I’ve seen very little Solo merchandise around at all. That not be wholly representative though as Toys R’Us near us closed and the supermarkets (which have for years carried a lot of non-grocery products) have scaled right back on there non core stock, one has even brought the catalogue shopping franchise Argos in-store and pretty much eliminated all their toy and entertainment goods off the shop floor.

i am having trouble finding merch, but maybe they understocked? i did find a black series Enfys Nest with speeder but at $60, i blanched.*
will probably regret that later, but otherwise, the pickings have been slim overall.

edit: oops, sorry; i was completely off there.
it wasn't Enfys Nest, i found, it was the trooper/dewback set.
which makes me realize that i really didn't see much of anything from Solo at the store. : o p

    Toy sales are down.
    Toys R Us is closed.
More and more shopping is done online.
Kids don't like action figures anymore.

Even Infinity War had very little in the way of toys.

Same here though as I live near the new Argos owners they have opened a Argos concession at the back of the shop so have that option but honestly there wasn’t much apart from some Black Series figures that interested me.

I am pretty upset at Disney's/Hasbro's ever-shrinking packaging for the base 3 3/4 figures, not to mention the character assortment. I bought several TLJ figures (before seeing the movie) but I think that's it for me from that line. Even with Solo, a movie I thoroughly enjoyed, I am sick a the horrible quality figures, the artwork (instead of actual movie pictures) on the cards and, as mentioned above, the ever-shrinking packaging.

I will probably get the Qui-Gon/Maul 2-pack (which is from the Solo line but obviously not the Solo movie) but beyond that, my next purchases will be the Vintage Collection line from E7 and R1. I may even pinch my nose and get the Vintage Collection pieces from E8 to round out that mini-collection. (On further thought, I will probably just get a case of those figures which will give me all of them so I'll get E8 whether I like it or not :D )

I think that the stores did not order too much of the solo toys because of their past experience with mainly TLJ

one of the things it says in this article, but doesn't say loud enough frankly, is that toys are really expensive.
so yes, of course, the "under $10" sales are doing okay.

i love the Black Series Star Wars toys, but you can feed a family for two weeks on what it would cost you to get each new wave. : o p

Hmm... I know that we often get legacy characters alongside a film's figures, but I wonder if that was a clever way of getting the film a Maul action figure without spoiling his actual appearance.

absolutely. But I just also think there's a general disinterest.
    Cost doesn't help.

Why buy a toy for 20 bucks when you play this game for free and spend 50 bucks over the course of a year in 1 dollar increments!
(this is basically what my cousins do)

Kids these days don't even know that Lego bricks were around long before Star Wars and Marvel Movies, and decades before videogames were invented.

And no, they are NOT called "Legos", they are properly called Lego bricks.

absolutely! and the literal worlds you could build with household junk: we made our own ships and playsets, and the sheer number of figures meant you had a cast of "thousands" to play with. we named all of our stormtroopers, our multiple aliens (my brother had six hammerheads), and recast the multiple heroes as extras.

we wrote in plots to explain why our death star commander was missing an arm, and why one of our stormtroopers fell over every time we tried to stand him up. and not enough female characters? no problem! there were half a dozen leias to go around. XD

    it was glorious.

I was quite disappointed with the Lego sets for Solo. They came out with a "nicer", pointy nosed Falcon, and a TIE fighter. I already have the TFA Falcon and the First Order TIE fighter. Hopefully there's some neat sets coming out in the fall.

What a great thread....I should've gotten my iphone out the other day as my youngest had a massive "universes collide" session going on with Star Wars and Marvel and DC figures all locked in a massive battle.

I saw Han Solo with Mjolnir.......Thor with Chewie's bowcaster......Darth Vader with a helmet switch with Iron Man.....and I could be wrong but I believe that was Superman's cape on Lando.....
