We all have movies that we like or even love that are considered to be garbage by critics, viewers and/or both. List some of your favorites. To add, name a film that you can't stand that is almost universally considered to be good.

I'll open up with a pair of comedies. Joe Dirt and The Waterboy are two of my all-time favorite films.

i can start with a couple of obvious ones.. i may need to re-visit as i think of more.

John Carter. flop of the century at the box office, and awful reviews.
I love it.. sue me :p

The Lake House. more plot holes than... erm... something with a ridiculous amount of plot holes.
I love it, but i'm not sure why lol

To add to the thread, name a film that you can't stand that is almost universally considered to be good. Right off the top of my head, it is of my personal opinion that Quentin Tarrantino is the most overrated person ever to make films in Hollywood. I rarely like anything that he has made.

i strongly recommend John Carter... but i might be alone pushing that, so proceed at your own risk :p

i suspect that a lot of people blindly nod along that all QT films are great... i like Kill Bill V1, and Inglorious Basterds. pulp fiction is alright but i don't get it like others seem to.
the rest of his films.. meh - no thanks.

    Well...

I really like National Treasure (the first one, not the second one) and the Sorcerer Apprentice even if nearly all the people I know hate Nicolas Cage's movies.
I like John Carter too, even if well... you know... and Matrix: Reloaded.

I really dislike Gravity, some French movies you'll probably don't know (which is better for you) like Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis or Rien à Déclarer and Shrek (all the saga).

A movie that I really try to like but I can't is Casablanca. I fall asleep every single time. And I do try. I'm an Old Hollywood fan so this movie is like required reading but, sorry, is too boring.

James Cameron is an hugely overstimated director for me.

I've a distaste for Michael Bay too but I'm not alone in that :p.

A movie I love but everyone else hates? The PT counts? :p I'd say Big Hero 6. Half the people I know think that it's a mess full of flaws.

The Replacements - I don't know why I like it but I do. Critics hate it.

Charley and the Chocolate Factory(Tim Burton version) - I despise that movie.

The best bad movie I've ever seen is The Room. It's an accidental comedic masterpiece, and probably one of the most quotable movies ever made.
The worst good movie I've seen is Guardians of the Galaxy. I hate that movie SO MUCH, and not because of its typical Hollywood flaws (bad CGI, cardboard characters etc). No, it's because it managed to make me angry within the first minutes, which is quite an accomplishment. All because of the "wonderful" Star-Lord.
So we have this sweet little boy who gets in fights to protect frogs. And as a viewer, you're thinking to yourself...This is a lovely child, so pure, surely he'll grow up to be a wonderful human being. But no, about 5 minutes later he's all grown up and having fun by dancing around (which is nice) AND and kicking some rat-like creatures. And what I'd like to know is...how is that fun? I mean I get why that would be fun for a sociopath (abusing weaker creatures is what gives their lives purpose), but Star-Lord is supposed to be a sympathetic character. He's supposed to be a scoundrel with a heart of gold, but where is the gold? Not to mention that there's no explanation as to why he turned into an unbearable jerk. And the fact that a scene THAT ridiculous was supposed to be funny was insulting. So was the expectation that, as a viewer, I'm supposed to like this jerk. That's what made me angry, and I have no idea how I managed to sit through that entire movie. I guess it was like a car pile-up, you know something awful is going on but you just can't take your eyes away.

I've got a great love for old 70's sci-fi, most of which others deride, so 'good bad movies' could include Logan's Run, Silent Running, The Black Hole and John Carpenter's stuff. Against popular opinion, I also quite like Iron Man 2.

Bad good movies... most people I know like Starship Troopers, but I disliked it so much I left the cinema. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was just a non-relatable CGI crapfest and I'm no fan of Titanic, AI, Indy 4, Prometheus or the critically lauded movies of Ben Wheatley either.

I'd pretty much agree with that. I've got a soft spot for Jackie Brown which few, if any, of my friends agree with... but then they're the people who love Inglorious Basterds too, which I was more than vocal in my dislike of. I'd add The Hateful 8 to the 'like' list too, as it was the first of his movies in a long while I've watched more than once.

The Mummy Returns-critics didn't really care for it, but I loved it.

X-Men: Days of Future Past-thought it was very overrated.

(James Cameron is just a guilty pleasure artist)

    Worst good movies:
Rogue One, because it's dull without being aware of the metaphor

I enjoy the Transformers series, but the 5th one was pretty average.

I hate Fences, Manchester by the Sea and Hell or High Water. All 3 of them were nominated for the best film of 2016 somehow.

The other 6 best picture nominees were good, but I just have no idea why these 3 did so well. They were completely pointless and boring.

The best bad movie of all time is "Hawk the Slayer"

Every department puts in a poor or average job but it all comes together in such a fun re-watchable movie.

The best bad movies in my opinion are Dark Corners, Escape from Tomorrow and the 1995 erotic thriller Jade. I never understood why their rankings are so low.
