I've tried to explain the difference between scientific polls vs. unscientific internet poll, but you keep posting it anyway.

FWIW, the current films are copying a formula seen in other franchises, notably Alien and Mad Max. That is, they rehash material from previous movies. This might make fans disappointed but it won't affect what might be a larger group of viewers, i.e., young people from different countries who barely know about the older films.

Honestly, I think RJ's trilogy is fine.

The whining at his current movie is mostly directed at anger at how existing and beloved characters were treated (for better, or for worse).

Since the new trilogy is expected to be much more removed from what we already know, I don't really see this being a problem, as long as fans are able to look at the new stuff objectively.

The irony would be profound, if the trilogy didn't happen. Lucas is a crap filmmaker (gets two trilogies), Johnson is a great filmmaker (gets no trilogy)

Lucas is a brilliant filmmaker. Look at his experimental short films from the 60’s, THX, American graffiti, and A New Hope then get back to me.

He also secretly wrote the script for Empire that Kasdan polished, in addition to storyboarding and directing the special effects shots for the film. Film is a collaborative medium and a lot of people helped in making the first SW a hit but that doesn’t diminish his vision or talents as a filmmaker. Enough with the Lucas hate.

George Lucas wrote something between an outline and a first draft, not a real script. Lawrence Kasdan described it as "the skeleton for a movie" and said it needed "the flesh and the muscle". Enough with the Lucas lies.

That’s Kasdan exaggerating during the TFA promotion and it's not true.

There is proof and documents. Read the Making of Empire Strikes Back by JW Rinzler with testimonies from everyone involved, including Kershner. The Leigh Brackett draft was discarded and Lucas did the next two drafts before Kasdan came in to polish it. He gave her credit to honor her memory because she died of cancer.

The entire structure of Empire is due to Lucas. Believe what you want but the Rinzler Making of books is the most honest documentation of how those movies were made, including showing the ugly side of things. Oh, read the story transcripts of Raiders.

Well he created the most successful media franchise in history and revolutionized film making in many ways, he probably was not that bad...

I think all bets are off.
No director appears safe with Star Wars. We've seen other directors come & go with Rogue One and the Han Solo movie.

Ron Howard may be the biggest, most established director tied to Star Wars (maybe JJ is bigger)... I have 2 related points: 1) Will Disney give other big name directors a shot at Star Wars if they come asking or go ask them (Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, etc.)? AND 2) IF Ron Howard is loved for Solo and he asked to do a Star Wars trilogy, would Disney say no? Or even if he didn't could Disney offer him a job?

Even the OT proved too large for George Lucas to manage by himself (granted he was building/managing many companies at the same time). He hired others to direct & help out.
What is Rian Johnson's role for his trilogy? Perhaps he'll just be executive director over the trilogy.

    Can’t wait for RJ’s trilogy.

If they go down the experienced director route with a new Star Wars story, I’d like to see an Ang Lee SW film.

I think they’ll blame him for the low toy sales, second week drop and fan vitriol. I don’t see him coming back.
