I wish someone would go back in time and convince Lucasfilm from hiring him for Episode VIII. It's like Looper, only better.

George Lucas says in the book that Lawrence Kasdan, during the creation of the final ESB-script, added depth, made the dialouge better and made the characters more consistent. He also says that Kasdan questioned and challenged a lot of things, if not everything, in the outline/draft, something that forced Lucas to rethink certain things more than once. Yoda was, according to Lucas, a very underdeveloped character but Kasdan managed to make him work. Flesh and muscle, so to speak.

Tough to say at this point. It depends on the Box office which so far has been fine. But we'll need to wait and see. Personally, I am fine with RJ doing the trilogy, BUT he cannot do the same thing he did with TLJ.

And what I mean is in terms of narrative, pacing, and other errors. The added benefit is that given he has the ability to map out his own ideas and concepts, I see this actually working out well for him. That said, I personally feel like Rian Johnson shouldn't solely write this Trilogy, but rather get some help from LucasFilm or whoever else.

Because I truly think that Rian Johnson will do a slightly better job creating his own stuff within the SWs mythos compared to The Last Jedi. Because, I blame The Last Jedi's divisiveness on LF poor planning.

P.S: Also, my hope with this new trilogy is that we don't get the equivalent of Mass Effect Andromeda. Please, no. make it a new galaxy, but please flesh it out well. Make sure it can in no way interfere with the current galaxy.

disagree....lucasfilm would direct the blame at EA. Lucasfilm will have the leeway to throw someone other than rian johnson under the bus

what is the point of making a new galaxy...literally would be a gimmick if they do that.

plus the word universe doesnt sound as sexy as galaxy

If he's going to be let go, why doesn't Disney just go head and announce it?

The great thing about RJ is that his story will ultimately grow the audience. The outraged minority will either get over it or quit watching.

Star Wars can only survive with original storytelling. They probably should have let RJ outline this trilogy.

I don't think the industry would be so myopic as to think that making short term money and pleasing the casual audience is enough to still remain as successful in future movies as well.

The hard core fans matter at the end of the day because they represent guaranteed seats in the theater and guaranteed buyers of merchandise. While wooing casual fans is well and good, there is less of a guarantee of them sticking around....the present strategy might work for a couple of movies but eventually SW will just end up like any other movie franchise...it might continue to do well, but the level of success and resultant profits will definitely decline.

I think Disney/LF should still allow RJ to write and direct his own trilogy, but that story should be kept miles away from the saga films and care should be taken to avoid flagrant disregard of existing canon.

If he goes it will probably be because he doesn't want to deal with the shitty impossible to please fans and all the entitled fanboy shitt. I hope he stays just to spite them, though. Oh, and also because I loved TLJ.

To Fix it all add to the bluerey alter version of the last jedi with the deleted scenes can make a change and make netfilickmovie of star wars with Rey, Kylo Ren and FInn. Or just a movie about the Knights of Ren on Netflick or Amazon

I am aware that Kasdan tightened the script and made the dialogue better etc. He didn’t change everything. The point I am making is that Lucas co-wrote the script and the structure of the movie was his.

The book compares the differences in drafts where Kasdan lightened the dialogue and they re-wrote each others drafts.

Leigh bracketts credit is actually George Lucas credit.

He gave it to her as a credit of honor and credited himself for the story only

Since her name is the first in the credits and lucas should be at her place he at the very least contributed at least 50% of the shooting script.
Kasdan did only polish the dialogue.
They almost did the exact same thing on VI, only this time kasdan had much more freedom since lucas only delivered a first draft.
Thats why this time his name is the first in the credits.

Its also kind of funny when people interview kasdan and ask him about these old movies and he constantly refers to how he wrote empire or jedi , like he wrote it alone which is complete bs.

I See A 50/50 Chance Of It Still Happening, Whether You Liked It Or Not, TLJ Still Made Disney A-Lot Of Money, And Ninja Turtles Made Enough Money Off A Critically Hated Film To Make A Sequel, So, They Probably Will Not Cancel It

Considering the success KK has had with directors, the trilogy won't get cancelled but it'll be 3 movies done by 3 entirely different people (none of whom are Johnson).

I don’t think it will get cancelled but I do wonder if it’s going to bring the box office like the other Films...

I can only speak for me but what drew me to the prequels? Wanting to know the backstory of one of the greatest villains of all time...and we go three films to seeing the conclusion

Rouge One drew me because I was fascinated by what was the inciting incident that started a new hope

The sequel trilogy grabbed me because I wanted to see the “old band” get together and in the process was introduced to new characters that now I’ve grown to love

What I’m getting at is if it wasn’t for the core of the original trinity (Luke, leia, Han) I would have never cared or come to the theatre

My concern is why should I care about a new trilogy when it’s completely separate. Putting blasters in peoples hands and flying ships doesn’t make it Star Wars. And that’s where my concern lies. I won’t go just because the name Star Wars is on it. Hell at this moment I’m not even caring about the Solo film (but that is for another thread)

TLJ is the new masterpiece that I as a fan was waiting for. Completly different but at the same time inteligent. Very curious about IX now.

Hell no. I think of Jackie Robinson when I think of these situations. Jackie didn't have the option to screw up, and be given another shot. When you are first you have to give it your best shot. Rian, and especially Kathleen forgot that part of history.
