He not bad so far I think this one is the better written one & so far these are his only two books so hopefully he will continue to improve with further novels.

I'm sure you're decently into it if not finished by now, but Wizard and Glass is great. It might feel a little detached from the main story (and it kind of is) but it's such a cool interlude in the middle of this epic series.

Looking forward to read it! I have Thrawn too but it will come after that one.

Also want to read Battlefront II but guess I have to pick the first one too. I have it already, but I've been pushing it to the bottom of the list as long as other titles had been posted. However, loved Alexander Freed work on the Rogue One novelisation, so I guess I'll start it after Thrawn lol.

hahahaha ~ i have kept pushing Battlefront back too in favor of other books! do or die now, i guess! glad to know Freed's R1 was good!
i still haven't finished Thrawn. it's just not my cuppa, unfortunately. i'll try to finish it, but feels like a slog, sadly.

Thrawn leans heavily in the direction of sci-fi, which I think is why it's not my favorite. I gotta have fantasy/mystic or even just spiritual elements in my SW. That's why I approve of Gaurdians--because Chirrut.

i think you and i share an aesthetic. : D

Thrawn is about systems and intellect.
i need more passion on the surface.
Baze and Chirrut as a pair are wonderful: funny, acerbic, sweet; there's all this emotion roiling in them and between them.
you just don't get that with Thrawn and Vanto, who are basically Holmes and Watson on Star Destroyers. frankly never was a Sherlock fan either.

See I quite liked the Sherlock Holmes stories & the ITV series which may explain my love of Thrawn plus it good to get a Empire view of things in the SW universe.

it definitely has that vibe. seeing things from the Empire's pov is definitely the draw for me--that was why i wanted to read it. and scour for clues as to where Thrawn goes next and whether he's out there waiting for Rax, for example. but yeah, the type of story it is just isn't that compelling for me. alas.

About halfway through Bloodline by Claudia Black. It's not as good as the Aftermath trilogy IMO, but still a very good read. I am at the part where things are about to really heat up. Really enjoying it so far.

I've only been reading new Canon books in the last couple years(a few months before TFA was released). I think my favorite so far is Dark Disciple with Aftermath being a very close second. Catalyst was really good too.

Favorite character so far: Quinlan Voss was great, but it's Mr. Bones by a mile :)

I would be finished with the series by now but I took a detour to read a few of the King books I haven't read which I'm told are important to the series. After I finished The Wind Through The Keyhole I read Hearts In Atlantis and the short story Everything's Eventual. Then I got back onto the road to the Tower with Wolves Of The Calla and after finishing that I started Insomnia. After that I'm going to finish up the last two books even though a friend is telling me to read The Talisman. He says it's very important to the story. I say that I walked into a bookstore and saw The Talisman was thicker than a phone book and just decided not to sidetrack myself too much.

As for Wizard And Glass, I enjoyed it but not as much as the previous three. I didn't mind that it's detached from the main story (I LOVED The Wind Through The Keyhole after all), I just didn't think it was THAT great of a story. I was really looking forward to this book as I'd been told what it was about and I was very curious about Roland's past. What happened to his friends, what happened to Gilead, who this Susan was and what happened to her, what happened with the war... among a hundred other questions. What I found was that it really only explained the Susan angle, and in nauseating detail. It was a story worth telling but I thought a chapter or two in a more encompassing history of the man would have been more interesting than stretching it out into a Needful Things style novel where we have to learn everything there is to know about the town and all of its inhabitants. It's the longest book in the series I read so far (I see only the final book is longer) yet it had the smallest scope.

Oh, good call with Insomnia, that one is definitely required reading for the Dark Tower series. The Talisman is alright, but I don't think you'd need it.
Interesting that you bring up Needful things- I find that one to be helpful to have read, too, if not only because it's yet another incarnation of Flagg... speaking of which, Through the Eyes of the Dragon is also a good companion to the series.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of the series! I just started Desperation this weekend, it's one of the few pre-2000s King books that I haven't read yet (though I did see the movie for it a while ago).

It's been a long time since I read Needful Things or saw the movie. I remember quite a bit of it but I don't remember the villain too well and I didn't know it was an incarnation of Flagg though it doesn't surprise me. I'm really enjoying Insomnia so far, I'm not quite halfway through it and it's plenty long. It's one of the few King books I've ever gone into where I knew absolutely nothing about it and had no idea what to expect. I wasn't expecting the little bald doctors that's for sure. I feel like maybe I should have re-read IT first or at least watched the mini-series, there are quite a few references that's I'm barely getting (and some I'm probably missing) because it's been like 18 years since I read it.

As for Desperation, I've been considering reading that and The Regulators but haven't gotten around to it. I saw the movie years ago and wasn't all that crazy about it. This lady I worked with had read it and said it was great. But she also told me the movie Riding The Bullet was one of her favorite movies ever and I watched it the other day and thought it was terrible.

OK, finished with the Dark Tower. I only have two words to say about the final book and its ending: F*%$ING WEAK. Had I known I wouldn't have bothered with the franchise at all.

I am reading Frank Herbert's Dune and this process is an experience. On the back of the cover there is a quote from Arthur C. Clarke that compares it to Lord of the Rings and it is more than justified while reading it. A truly spectacular book. Also, it helps that this edition is absolutely gorgeous with stunning drawings by a Polish painter called Wojciech Siudmak. It is truly a delight.
This is the cover art for Dune.
