I hate TLJ as a film. People continue to remind me that hate is a strong word, and yet I'd like to reiterate in caps that I HATE this film. But to deny that it doesn't have some moments that are great would be a lie. Here are some things in TLJ that work for me (a self proclaimed hard core fan)

    1. Rose crying for her sister. This has been an area that has been "a swing and a miss" for the other episodes. Loss is not something that should simply skirt by with a few sad droid beeps and solemn faces. People should be allowed to grieve (and yes I know Anakin cried for Shmi but it was a little bit different because his grief was mixed with bloody, murderous, resolve... Rose is simply experiencing loss in the way that many of us do IRL, when there is nothing to be done except mourn)

    2. You may not like her character arch (I know I didn't) but I feel like Daisey Ridely did an outstanding job in portraying depth in Rey. She was far less One dimensional and some of that has to be attributed to the script she had to work with

    3. There was no planetary sized planet killing base. You can only go to the well so many times. At least Rian tried a story that hadn't been done before (no planet to planet battles, but basically an extended chase scene. That hasn't happened in SW before. If you hate the execution, still acknowledge the creativity in trying to give the audience a new situation)

    4. The Hyper Space Attack visual was phenomenal. Period.

    5. I know people hate this scene, but I think it was great that Leia FINALLY got to be an active Force User and not a passive one. There was no good reason for keeping her off of that plane of existence with the Force. If Broom Boy could use the force, if Maz could use the Force, surely the Daughter of Anakin should have had a chance to use the Force as well.

    6. The visual of the Crait battle also looked good I would argue.

If I think about anything else I'll try to add more

Me too. I absolutely love this movie.

Only one gripe: Maz's scene. That's it. Just like I didn't like the space slug in ESB.

    My summary:

    CHARACTERS
Luke arc = GREAT (can't say enough how well his story worked for me, beginning to end)
Rey/Kylo arcs = GREAT (a worthy and compelling duo for the ST trilogy)
Leia/Poe/Rose arcs = GOOD (I expect significant things from Poe in IX)
Finn arc = AVERAGE (concerned about his trilogy arc --keeping Phasma around as a foil in IX would have been preferred)

    GENERAL

    Aliens/creatures: AVERAGE
    Vehicles/Ships: GREAT

    FILM ELEMENTS

    Action: GREAT
    Dialogue: GREAT
Effects: GOOD (this goes down a notch because some of CG action sequences are a tad off, but 80% GREAT)
Cinematography: GREAT (top 3 in the saga IMO)
    Editing: GOOD/INTERESTING
Pacing: GOOD (could stand to slow down once in a while, but I was never bored for one second)
    Surprises and "freshness" = GREAT

Now that i had time to cool off, there is one scene really growing on me : the Hux-Kylo face-off over Snoke's dead body. This moment in particular is awesome :

_ " The Supreme Leader is DEAD !"
    _ "... long ... live ... the ... Supreme ... Leader"

And the whole scene, starting from Kylo's awakening, is just amazing : truly one of the best non-action scene.

Seeing the broom boy at the end wearing Rose's ring. Amazing that one jedi's journey ended & another one's begins.

I'm a big fan of Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, and I felt this movie took inspiration from the game for it.
So that's a really good thing to me.

    7. While I continue to disagree with making Kylo the centerpiece of this installment, when on the front stage Adam Driver delivers. His development is believable, the visual and audio queues that he has hardened his resolve are clear but not over the top. I hate the timing of the Death of Snoke (this shouldn't have happened in the 2nd installment) but you can tell Rian and the story team put some rigor in their approach to figuring out how exactly does the student slay the more powerful master that doesn't ask us to suspend our disbelief. It also shows that Kylo has matured and will be a terrifying opponent in the future.

    8. Kylo and Rey vs the Guard. Pretty good action, hard to take it all in, with so many moving parts.

Really? I love the space slug. Every movie has kind of a monster or two.
    ANH - Dianoga
TESB - Wampa, space slug and the creature in Dagobah that tries to eat R2.
    ROTJ - Rancor and Sarlacc.
    TFA - The rathars.
    TPM - The sea monsters.
AOTC - The 3 beasts at the arena.
    ROTS - Dont recall any.
    TLJ - Dont recall any.

The only that I dislike are the 3 beasts and the rathars.

Finn is obviously getting with Rose Tico. Him and Rey are just friends,if they were anything more I bet we would have seen something more than them just hugging like any other friend in the resistance. Rey and Kylo is going to happen more than likely.

The fight with the Imperial guards was decent, at least you got to see they were more than window dressing and could hold their own for a bit against powerful force users.

The little stick fight between Luke and Ray was good as well.

I liked it when they didn't remake the Battle of Hoth.
Why they would put that in the trailers after all the hubbub about VII being to close to home is a müstery.
