Just as the thread title says, has anyone watched a scene from the movie and thought "I would've done this differently"?

For example, in Episode I when Obi-Wan finds Tatooine will be best to set down to make repairs, what I would've done is as the scene is about to end, Obi-Wan would turn to the computer monitor, the camera zooms in on the display and just as the planet fills up the screen it perfectly blends into the Trade Federation battleship.

It would show that the characters' lives will forever be changed as soon as they head to Tatooine.

I would get rid of episode I all together. We still need Qui-Gon though, so i would put in flashbacks. I would make two parts of the the clone wars and include the siege on mandalore, ahsoka, more of the clones and the 501st, more of the other jedi, obi and satine, death watch, and actual battles. Truly see the relationship and brotherhood between obi and ani which would make his downfall more tragic. Not to mention bringing in ahsoka and maybe mortis. I would want more of how the actualy republic worked. We do not need pod racing. Making ani's downfall more tragic and truly seeing it slowly happen would have been better than all of episide I. We could do flashbacks of Maul and Qui-Gon and maybe include his force ghost. This is obviously more than a simple creative change, but i really needed to get this out there before i went crazy haha. (please excuse spelling errors i am dyslexic and spell check isnt working.)

I like episode 1. Im probably one of few. Pretty important to see Anakin grow up because we never knew what he did as a kid which led him to become a jedi which then led him to become a sith.

I like it as well. It's a weird movie. Aspects of it are definitely important to the overall fabric of the PT and the OT, but other parts are purely there for Lucas' own sake. The blockade, the politicking, it's there and it's useful, but I hesitate to call it entirely necessary. Certain aspects of it are needed, such as Palpatine becoming Chancellor and staying in power for far too long, but other parts really aren't. It's an odd-duck in a trilogy that's an odd-duck itself. But I see both sides to a degree.

I politely disagree. The Phantom Menace was a story about the “innocence” of the past, of Anakin, of the Republic. It served as a fun, fanciful prologue to a much darker, complicated story. You have to look at Star Wars as one whole unit George’s true intention. Like many good sci-fi/fiction novels, a preface has the theme, but does not necessarily share aspects of the rest of the book/story. Your comment asked for more of “how the actual republic worked.” The Senate scene was that scene, as the mirrored similarities to the Jedi council and how they are just as corrupt as the senate. You ask for more Maul, Ahsoka, and Satine. Now, in my opinion, that is unnecessary to the overall saga. It’s Anakin’s story. Therefore, the podracing was necessary; that was George’s way of showing how his freedom (and the fate of the entire galaxy in the future) hung on a thread, namely a nose-by-nose homestretch race with Sebulba. I often think back to this “innocence” when seeing Vader choking people in the OT. It made the man’s decisions and life choices all the more tragic; was this REALLY the same boy who won the Boonta Eve race? Maybe it’s because I love TPM and feel like I understand George and where he’s coming from, but the only two things I would change in that movie are 1) the dialogue and 2) cast Haley Joel Osmont as Anakin.

Now, to switch gears, there are some things I would change in Star Wars.
    1) see more of the planet Kessell in Solo and more of the slave Wookies.
    2) Tie the saga together by including Anakin’s ghost (and everyone’s ghosts) in the Rise of Skywalker
    3) put that Luke-tricking-Rey on Acho To deleted scene back into TLJ. That scene showed a mischievous side to old Luke, which I think would make audiences accept him more in that film.
    4) More foreshadowing of Snoke’s Palpatine origins in TFA.
    5) Include more aliens in Rogue One, namely the crew who gave their lives at Scariff. There were, I feel, too many humans.

I totally respect that. And now that I think back to it, I have thought that exact same thing. It is beautifully done. You raise an amazing point. I do think it can be done in flashbacks though, yet it would take a lot of flashbacks and for that to work creatively, it would need better writing. I think I just like the idea of seeing more of the star wars universe and adding to the tragedy of order 66, but TPM does bring that innocence to light. Very good comment and def makes me think more. I may have to just agree to disagree, but I appreciate you making me think of the larger story Lucas wanted to portray. I do wish it could have been done differently (although of course I love it.) Maybe we needed 4 movies (the more star wars the better lol). Or just a better AoTC. Everything else you said I 100% agree with. Your ideas make me wish you could write a movie. I would also have kept the seen in RoTJ that has Luke building his lightsaber. Would have loved to see how that works in the OT :)

Episode III ROTS should have ended with Vader, in all his prime, starting the Jedi Purge.
The episode would left us with some uncertainty about Padme's pregnancy, or better, some questions about Anakin's paternity.
The goal would be to preserve "the big revelation" till TESB.
The Mustafar scene would be in it.

Then, we should have had a bonus : a 20/30 minutes "episode III-bis", that would fill in all the gaps.
This EP3/bis is intended to be watched ONLY once Anakin being Luke's father is acknowledged.
This EP3/bis should contain the Poliss Massa scene, where children are born, Padme not dying but getting ill, taken by Bail Organ on Alderaan where she would die (that would match Leia's reminiscence about his mother), and Obi's delivery to Owen and Beru on Tatooine.

    1. Jettison Anakin's whinny/bratty manchild behaviour in 2. Make him kind and goodhearted and naive, but who has a tendency to go over board when he sees cruelty and bullying. The Jedi who are either reluctant to take him in hand or don't know how to deal with a child/young man like him don't take him in hand and instruct him. Basically they use a sledgehammer when a fly swatter will do when they punish/discipline him. And he gets filled with anger and shame and makes him believe the Jedi don't appreciate him. This leaves him ripe for grooming and manipulation from Palpatine who flatters him.

    2. A better set up for Finn in TFA. I would have made him younger (same age as Rey), given him rank and given him a back story. He comes from a backwater planet and comes from a large family where his overworked parents can barely afford to feed them. Finn is only too happy to be part of the FO he gets fed regularly, makes friends and learns a useful skill and gains rank. He whole heartedly swallows the propoganda of the FO, that they are there to instill order and unity to the galaxy. It's when the first spark of his FS emerge and he feels uneasy about having to kill the villagers. He gets separated from his unit. And saved by Poe. And from there he begins seeing that not everything is he was taught. And I would also make him look a bit less helpless.

    3. A better set up for Kylo in TFA as well. Flash backs or have a conversation where Snoke orders him to kill innocent people and Ren argues back asking if it's necessary. Also show that his his outbursts are as a result of the strain if suppressing his light side.

The main thing about these types of threads for me is that many of these changes are "Hindsight is 20/20" changes for me. The only movies I really walked out of the theater - or, after a few days afterward - and thought "man, I really would have changed XYZ" are TLJ and TROS. Ultimately those changes snowballed into me writing a whole stinking revision for the entire Sequel Trilogy. And then last week I wrote about what small change in the PT I'd make that would lead to larger changes. And now this pops up? Man, I'm going to end up revising the whole stinking saga at this rate...I'll save some of the more dramatic and controversial changes for a potential remake draft game. Here are the crux of the previous changes I've mentioned:

    PT - Change Padme's role.

OT - The above would factor into Leia and Luke's characterization here. I'd probably have it so that Leia, would have been partially trained by Ahsoka and Padme in secret. Vader took an interest in her as an apprentice for a time, but an accident* necessitated that the princess was cut off from the Force, until the bond naturally healed. (Vader lost interest in her due to this, since her usefulness would now be incredibly limited.) Luke was seen as a fresh slate that could be used at a critical time, which is why he was chosen over Leia more or less.

ST - There are a LOT of changes. Again, I wrote a whole stinking revision for the trilogy. You can look up Drafts 1.5 and 2.5 on the thread titled WWYD. Summing it up (which is so hard to do):

TFA - More politics - the F.O. is actually linked to a hyper-aggressive faction of the New Republic and a part of that. Leia knows something is up, so she retires from her position in the Government to investigate. Subplot with Kor Sella trying to get help and running from the Knights of Ren. She ends up captured, but her family escapes. Finn doesn't drink out of the animal water trough. He runs into Rey and she (grudgingly) gives him some water to drink.

TLJ - Finn and Poe's subplots are switched (I've talked about this ad-nauseum), Luke fights Rey to a standstill, Rey and Ren's Dyad bond was stolen from Rey and Finn as revealed by Snoke, Poe and Rose fall in love, DJ is replaced by Zorii Bliss (who is a former lover or either Rose or Paige), Poe and Kylo have a little dogfight. Rey is revealed to be a Palpatine here.

TROS - The planets are switched. The Resistance Base is in the ruins of the Death Star II, Pasaana is Tatooine, Kijimi is Kamino, and the final battle takes place on three battlefields - Naboo against Sith Monsters (ground), in space (space), and in the Exogul temple (Jedi Battle). No Chewie death fake out. Jannah is a Stormtrooper-turned-guerilla-resistance-fighter on Kamino. Finn and Jannah team up to help people escape the planet before whatever bad happens, happens. Snoke is revealed to be a clone and the power-system for SKB and the new Sith Super Star Destroyers.
Kylo Ren would attack the Death Star II Base, and Leia would die augmenting the shields with the Force in order to defend the base. Ben keeps his lightsaber until the final battle with Palpatine. Finn is also at the final battle with Palpatine and his use of the Force is seen. Palpatine isn't brought back to life, but is trying to use the WBW in order to escape his death in ROTJ - he needs a Dyad to open the door, and only a Dyad can close it.** The Ghosts of Jedi appear along with their voices, including Luke and Leia. Ben lives and goes to Ach-To to meditate on what his atonement should look like (which would then lead into his Disney+ show), the New Republic would be split into smaller governments, and Finn would go with Rey to start the Jedi Order. Rey would introduce herself at the end as "Rey Organa, Jedi Skywalker" creating a rank above Jedi Master. Oh, and Finn/Rey instead of Rey/Ben.

    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/wwyd.57230/
Again, the changes made here are 1.5 and 2.5 with annotations. The completed version of my revision is a 5.0 draft and with no annotations.

*I still plan on using an aspect of this idea for my Kenobi Trilogy plot.
**Technically not true. The Chosen One would do as well, but a Dyad has as much power without the limitations of prophecy, so they're a less risky choice.

I would have Anakin older in episode 1 have him and padme the same age. So when the Council say he is too old to begin training it has more weight.

Id also would not have C3P0 built by Anakin

Thats a good point with the Anakin being older. It does carry more weight as we did get the same kind of thing in TESB with Luke and Yoda. To be honest, I like Anakin at his young age. There is some mysterious and odd affect seeing Anakin as a sweet, innocent, and kind child who just wants to help his friends and mom, while knowing what he will become in time. And personally, I like Threepio being built by Anie but im sure it could make more sense of someone else built him. I think the fact the Anakin built 3po at all was insignificant in the movies because this fact didn’t carry onto to anything important, so I totally get your point. It might have made more sense if 3po served Queen Amadala in TPM. But idk. I think the purpose of Anakin building threepio was to connect the two iconic characters in a way the audience would be shocked or something along those lines. Anyway, great chatting with ya :)

@Mosley909 Superb ideas agree with both of them.....I love SW but sometimes Lucas went overboard in having everything tied together too much. The GFFA is a large place...

Yeah the connection was a little irrelevant. But, I liked it because it was cool just to know who made threepio and the fact that it was Anakin was strange

Thank you! I tried to balance out fan service with meaningful callbacks with what RJ and JJ's actual movies were for the ST stuff.

incredibly well said overall, and as much as I love seeing maul, Ahsoka, etc, i agree they are not as nessecery to Anakin's story. though i would have loved to see a bit of Ahsoka because she made him more mature in a way, and really affected his life.

I agree he acted way too much like a child. Ahsoka was about 18 (i think) and acted like she was 25 and Anakin was about 19 (i think) but acted like he was 13 or something.

i liked how r2 was padmes and 3po was Anakin's, and they ended up being swapped. i think padmes age should stay but make Anakin a year or 2 older instead of 9 and 14 (correct me if I'm wrong on their ages) maybe 11 and 14? or 11 and 15?

To be honest, Im surprised that a lot are dissatisfied with TPM. I think it showed us a lot about Anakin and his potential future. I also loved Maul! But to each their own. And yeah I also thought it was cool that the droids flip flopped. Pretty funny if you ask me

I really liked it, but I'm not quite sure Anakin had to be 9. the age difference between Padme and Anakin at an age that young, is kind of ridiculous. if they were like 60 then 5 years might not be that much. but when you're around 20, 5 years can be a lot. also, I would like to see more about Anakin and obi-won between 1 and 2, because I want to know where Kenobi went wrong while raising Anakin. obviously, Kenobi didn't have much experience raising a teenager, and what Anakin needed is a father figure like qui-gon, not an older brother figure. comparing Ahsoka and Anakin, what they needed to grow and mature was very different. Anakin needed a father figure he could depend on always, and have the figure slowly turn to a brother, (have obi-won more like a father at first), meanwhile what Ahsoka needed, was different because she grew up in the temple with adults she could depend on, so what she needed was an older brother figure (Anakin) that she could depend on, but occasionally she had to learn to do things on her own and be more independent, and when she starts rarely depending on him (before the bombing) she is almost done with her training, she just needed another big obstacle, and she would be done. the bombing turned out to be that obstacle. through that independence she left, which overall was a good choice, because maul would be ruling the biggest crime empire in the world if she didn't.

To be fair, I didn’t mind the age difference. In the end, they didn’t start to express their feelings untill years later. In AOTC, Padmé is 24 and Anakin is 19. Since Anakin is over 18, I don’t really mind the relationship too much. I see a lot of others make a similar point though.

There's some changes I would have done but I just feel like saying what I would change if I was put in charge today. I'd make most of the focus in the franchise be on the old republic era and a 100 year time jump post episode IX!

I'd make the Knights Of The Old Republic and Old Republic games canon again and build new books, comics, films, games, merchandise, shows, etc around it then start exploring the far future post episode IX.

Of course I'd still have some content from the films eras going on but mainly mostly away because there's so much to explore pre and post Skywalker Saga
