Even Lucas...I mean, wasn't his biggest problem the writing, anyways?

His biggest problem is that he had no one to question his motives, He needed someone to keep him in check. You can't argue that his directing style is second to none.

I think he STILL wouldn't have anyone to question him with Disney because of what he's done for them .

That's true, but I think he has been hurt too much by the fan base to ever come back to it.

Yeah they've distanced themselves too much from Lucas .

Yeah, his other films haven't been great... Neill Blomkamp was originally asked to be the director of EPVII but he turned it down to work on District 10.

I don't know about that. He still gave us The Clone Wars and was originally going to be the director of Star Wars episode 7. All he decided upon was that free time to spend with his family was more important than some fictional world of his and I don't blame him for coming to that conclusion.

I have always admired the directing style of Robert Rodriguez. Not only does the guy have a push-the-limits approach regarding technology (3D camera systems, usage of green screen and cost-cutting strategies) like George, but he has lots of versatility, having directed Sin City, Machette Kills, and enjoyable family films like Spy Kids.
Interestingly, the man is being hired by James Cameron to direct the highly-ambitious project Battle Angel Alita. If you haven't read the manga, please do so. It feels like a mixture of Blade Runner and the underworld of Coroscant.

Whedon is ready to come back to film. I think he would be great.

If tehre's a film that we know about, then he would have been nice for R1 as an established director.

Whedon would be a great pick. I know it might not be a perfect fit but I would like to see Nolan try his hand at a darker episode of the Star Wars stand alone movies.

If it were a Kenobi film, kind of a slow paced, little inside adventure I would choose Francis Lawrence. He really shows he can create a variety of films with The Hunger Games and I Am Legend. If it were a classy, fun and explosive voyage like a Boba Fett film I would be in for James Gunn. A really dark and grim other film I would choose Christopher Nolan or Tony Gilroy. They're all really good directors.

I prefer directors who have interesting independent beginnins like Rian or Colin or Gareth (although I'm not sure about Colin yet) with an actual great opinion or reputation.

Probably Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival), Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud, Midnight Special), Joseph Kosinski (underrated visionary director from Tron: Legacy and Oblivion), Alejandro G. Iarritu (Birdman, The Revenant). But probably I prefer them to direct a movie from the Saga. ;)

Following the evolution of the "new" ones Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfiled Lane), Billy O'Brien (I am not a serial killer), John Macclean (Slow West), Spierig Brothers (Predestination), Dan Gilroy (Nighcrawler), Jeremy Saulnier (Blue ruin, Green Room), William Eubank (Love, The signal), Ruairi Robinson (The last days on Mars)... Probably more for a Standalone movie.

    Interesting and good chooice too.
If i had to choose "well-known" directors, probably would be Edgar Wright, Robert Zemeckis, Sam Mendes, Marc Forster, or probably Paul Thomas Anderson, Duncan Jones (with less CGI I guess), Francis Lawrence or Gavin Hood.

As I mentioned in another thread, I am almost willing to bet money on Ava Duvernay directing a Star Wars film (perhaps not the third spinoff,) because JJ and KK have both expressed interest in using her, and Disney is letting her have a go at it with the big-budget sci-fi adaption of "Wrinkle in Time."

Chris Nolan, the Coen Brothers, Luc Besson, Taika Waititi, James Mangold, James Gunn, Denis Villeneuve, Matt Reeves, Francis Lawrence, Neil Blomkamp, Kathryn Bigelow, Martin Campbell, Ridley Scott, Alfonso Cuaron, Robert Zemeckis, John McTiernan, Alejandro G. Inarritu, George Miller, Frank Darabont, Rob Reiner, Paul Greengrass, Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy ... All my picks.
