I'm a software developer (by title), and have been since.. oh before some of you were born. in reality.. i spend much of my time encoding video and writing software for others to mess around with video/audio.. it's a real Zzzz fest so i wont bore you further.

in Star Wars?

i had enough of being the good guy and the grafter that works harder than everyone else... so i'm an apprentice for Elan Sel'Sabagno.. selling death sticks.

I am currently a stay at home Dad. I got laid-off from manufacturing job where we made and prepped vinyl extrusion a handful of years ago and we found that it was more cost-effective for me to stay at home and be housewife since my wife made decent money and we didn't want to put out kids in an expensive daycare. I have been everything from a Marine to part-time PC tech to working for the Plumbers and Pipefitters local. Done grunt work, desk work and have even been a driver. I have many skills that I am good at, but none that I excel at... yet.

This winter I am returning to school to get either a Computer Science or Physical Therapy degree. I am still torn on that decision.

As for the Star Wars universe, I'd definitely serve in a military as a younger man then retire after my 20 years (assuming that GFFA militaries have retirement after 20 years), then become a Cargo Hauler. Not Smuggler, just a plain'ol Cargo Hauler. If I lived in the GCW era, I'd definitely seek to aid the Rebellion however I could.

 

I'm a lieutenant in the British Armed Force. In Star Wars i'd be an Imperial Commander .And probably on the battle of jakku....I believe I'm in that falling Star Destroyer .

 

I am a research scientist. I just started working with that new and cool genome editing system named CRISPR-CAS9.
In the SW universe I see myself making clones in CAMINO. And as a side-project, I surely would be experimenting with the RANCOR genome, making bigger and uglier rancors for Jabba the Hutt

 

I'm a student currently and I probably would be a smuggler or a bounty hunter.

I have three jobs IRL:
1. Stablehand at a nationally recognized equestrian centre
2. Pharmacy technician
3. Model

When the fall comes around I'll be leaving the equestrian centre to resume my full-time student status

 

I'm a change management data analyst and procedural and systems developer for a telecommunications company.
Basically my job is to make sure no engineering work bumps up against other work and cause problems, as well as ensure we're not violating contracts with work requests. As an adjunct to that, my job entails designing and developing the procedures and systems used to do this.

My Star Wars job equivalent?
Um...I don't know. My boss would probably be one level below one of these guys and I'd be dead because I'd probably work on the Death Star managing the red-tape for all the engineering going on.


*sigh*

Oh well...lol

P.S. And I probably would have been the guy who wrote a memo about the ventilation shaft vulnerability and subsequently patted on the head, told thanks, ignored, and get back to work.

I had to give a presentation on CRISPR for Biology a couple semesters ago. Clustered, regularly-interspaced, short palindromic repeats. Still remember that. Haha.

 

If I were transported to the galaxy far, far way, I would have this guy's (guys'?) job:

 

No, I don't actually consume any Star Wars material outside of the films.
I might tune in if they make a Star Wars live-action TV show, but I'd probably get bored and stop watching after a while because TV shows - serious ones anyway - always get drug out far too long these days for my taste. I'm kind of getting tired of serial plot lines. Can I have the adventurously light and episodic formula back now please? No? *sigh* Fine...

Which reminds me...when did ad-hoc, rigging, hustling, and conning become "hacking"?
You're not hacking anything. You're not "social hacking"...that's called conning or hustling, depending on how you do it and for what purpose.
People aren't devices...sheesh.
That's like calling Han a social hacker because he swindles and cons his way out of things. oi
And rigging something up for an ad-hoc purpose isn't a hack...it's rigging, or ad-hoc.

I suppose a mildly varied lexicon is too much to hope for.
Gene Hackman is a hack who I totally socially hacked while playing hacky sack with my hacked hacky sack made from imitation hacked haircloth, which is really hemp, because anyone who hacks a hack while hacking a hack named Hack with hacked horse hide is a hack who needs to be hacked by an anonymous hack pack to bring the social balance back.
