    I was raised in the cult which I left when I was 16 so whenever I watch the prequels it resonates with me how the Jedi Order is a flawed organisation that is more obsessed with power, image and upholding an outdated code rather than doing the right thing. Its leaders had become arrogant and narrow-minded in their ways to the point they could not detect that a corrupt politician was exploiting the system and rising to power in their very midst. Its got a very compelling storyline and serves as a commentary of sorts on the corruption at play in the real world.

    I loved seeing how the prequels continued the idea presented in ROTJ that Anakin was a tortured individual who was seduced into fascism even though in his eyes he was trying to do the right thing (save his wife). The films also have incredible special effects which progressed CGI to where it is today (e.g. CGI Peter Cushing), great music scores, electrifying fight choreography and fatally badass looking villains. As great as deep, emotional conflicts are in films sometimes you just want to see two Jedi going at it on a volcano and the prequels satisfied those, like me, who are hungry for cool, flashy 'fast food' entertainment on screen.

    The trilogy oozes with creative vision: the richness in the costume and environment designs of The Phantom Menace alone is a sumptuous feast for the eyes to behold. George could have so easily just lazily rehashed the look of the original films to placate nostalgia but decided to instead innovate and create something entirely different, and because of that he vastly expanded his world and made the universe of Star Wars feel massive.

    Some cheesiness in a franchise already heavily inspired by Flash Gordon will never be enough to dampen my love for these films. Sorry for gushing. :/

    I especially love how Lucas was willing to create such an ambiguous story, instead of creating one with more black-and-white themes.

    Last time whe I was rewatching TPM I was surprised by how much Shmi Skywalker spoke to me as a character. I'm a huge sucker for stories about parents and their relationships with their children and in that aspect I think Lucas presented us with a compelling character.

    TPM - It's got NABOO! (oooh!) Best music of all the SW films. (They actually recorded more tracks for TPM than any other film)
    AOTC - Not much. It has an opening crawl and some nice music at times, but pretty much "meh".
    ROTS - A good film overall, but ruined by a stupidly long and overplayed Obi vs Anakin final battle.

    It reversed the typical hero's journey! The prequels have a galaxy-wide story that looks beautiful, is incredibly unique, and will never be done again.

    The chemistry between Anakin and Obi-Wan, especially in ROTS. When I first saw it, that's what stood out to me instantly. When Obi-Wan comes to realize that Anakinhas turned to the dark side, you can tell he's hurt and his friend and padawan for many years is gone.

    The few battles with clones we got were great. I personally liked Revenge of the Sith because of how dark it was. It was when when we saw the most Jedi, and that’s what Star Wars is to me. I liked the Prequels way more than the originals (plz don’t hate) just for the amount of Jedi and action. Don’t get me wrong, the originals are still great but I enjoy watching the Prequels more.

    No need to apologize for what you enjoy. :) The Cantina is open to all fandom as we don't want to be a monolithic group that only listens to fans we agree with.

    I loved the prequels more than the os when first i've seen them , then i got to be regularly on the internet and the wave of criticism hit me aswell and for a period it was only the os ; now i've reached a state of equilibrium where i like them all ,more or less equally ( apart from rogue 1, is a good movie but if i don't see jedi is not sw for me , i'm yet to see it for the third time);
    What i love about the pt is the magnitude of it all, many and beautifull planets , city's, characters, ships , weapons , villains , lightsaber duels ;
    Deep deep down, come to think of it , the only "issue" i have with them is that we kind of know how it will all end, the lack of surprise , compared to revenge of the sith, tfa looks almost like an independent movie , when actually is made by the big bad sith lord of the movie industry (emperor), but the fact that it lays down the path to a new story, and the fact that i have no ideea where it will go makes it good, and i've never been so hyped about a movie in my life as i am about tlj ;
    another thing i loved in pq was the light saber duels, and how they ended ( maul been the exception , he should've lived trough another movie at least ) : count Dooku wiping the floor with anakin and obi wan, then gets killed by anakin , mace windu defeating sidious while yoda couldn't do it , obi wan beeing or at least looking like the weakest link gets to kick anakin's ..s , i've spent many many hours thinking and analyzing these duels , i can't help thinking that they could've been even better if only the end wasn't already outlined , if one of yoda/sidious could die, or one of anakin/ obi wan , oh well.....(duel)

    There's loads I like about the prequels, I just don't like the prequels.

    I think the world building is excellent, the sound design incredible, the aesthetic style is absolutely divine, I just think the movies themselves, as narrative vessels telling the story of people being people towards other people are quite simply; complete crap. I've been playing Battlefront 2 Beta this evening (which seems to be solely the Battle of Theed via Episode 3 somehow) and it brought back to me how much I adored playing Republic Commando. Which also reminded me how much I loved watching The Clone Wars. Which in turn reminded me how much fun I had playing Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars with my little boy.

    The world-building of these movies is terrific, on an aesthetic style level (and I'm specifically talking style, not execution, because scenes like the Tusken village in Episode 2 look like Dark Forces 2 FMV) I have no complaints whatsoever. I utterly enjoyed investigating the downed Jedi Starfighter in Rogue Squadron 3, I loved seeing the juggernaut 'turbo tank' in Rogue One, Luminara Unduli's death in Rebels was so tragic and Republic Commando remains one of the best Star Wars games I've ever played. I just think they fail as films when it comes to people and dialogue and all of the most basic things that make me enjoy watching humans talk with one another in front of a camera.

    Lucas created an amazing world with the prequels, for me however he just sadly failed at telling a story within that world. I'll never shun prequel elements turning up elsewhere in new instalments of Star Wars, I'll never say someone is wrong for loving the movies, I wish I did (I cannot stress that enough, I'd love to love them), but I just think they're nothing but style. Awesome, brilliant style, that has been expanded upon incredibly in other media, I just wish I didn't have to resort to other media to enjoy that world.

    Time and time again, I've got into a moment of watching the Clone Wars or enjoying a prequel-era videogame and thought "This is so good, right, I'm going to give those movies another chance" and I watch them again and within 15 minutes I'm left cringing at the flat dialogue, non-existent chemistry between characters and utterly lifeless presentation of everything and I'm back to hating the prequels. When I was 12, Blade Runner took me several attempts to love, nowadays it's one of my favourite movies and can't wait to see the sequel tomorrow. With each attempt at re-watching the prequels however, I like them even less and each attempted viewing just reminds me more why I disliked them the first time. I'm not a Redlettermedia devote, their videos never swayed my attitude, in fact, I'm quite the fan of underdog movies, hate a film I like and my fanhood may even grow; I love Alien 3 and no one can say anything to change my opinion on that, the world's hatred of it probably added to my pride in being a fan. But try as I might, and I did try, I just don't like the prequels.

    I'll take its world, I'll take its style, its music, its visuals, its overall story, I'm cool with all of that, I just don't ever want to watch them again because I think they just fail at representing people.

    And after spending two hours alternating between clones and drones through the gorgeous streets of Naboo's capital city on Battlefront 2, I'm going to watch some Clone Wars now. Thank you George for making its world, I just wish I didn't need, say, Dave Filoni or Tim Longo's (Republic Commando) version of it to love it.
