THE PREQUELS MOSTLY SUCK HOWEVER THE FIRST TWO ARE HILARIOUS IN THEIR STUPIDITY. JANGO VS OBI WAN VERY CINEMATIC, REVENGE OF THE SITH GOOD, PHANTOM MENACE NOT ALL GUNGANS SUCK, I THOUGHT THAT GUNGANS WOULD BE A NEW RACE OF STUPIDITY, ALL OTHER ALIENS ARE COMPETENT, BUT GUNGANS ARE A STUPID PEOPLE, HOWEVER, THEY FOUGHT IN A BATTLE SO YAY.

    Okay, here's my list:

    - Liam Neeson! He was the perfect fit for Qui Gon Jinn!
    - Ewan McGregor! Another great actor!
    - And believe it or not, Hayden! As much as people hate him, I think he actually did a great job of playing Anakin, moody teenager and all! And to all the people who think he did a terrible job: Could any of you imagine anyone else playing Annie? That's right, NO!
    - The droid design. The style was so Star Wars!
    -
    The lightsaber choreography was amazing!!!
    - Specifically the duel of the heroes! And the dialogue:rolleyes:...
    - The world building of Naboo and Coruscant was amazing!

I'm sure I could spend all day rambling on and on about how great the prequels are, but I'll stop here for now...

I wasn't expecting an answer about Anakin... But okay. I still like Hayden's acting.

    The Phantom Menace
    • The score
    • Getting introduced to Padme and Anakin
    • The performance of Liam Neeson

    Attack of the Clones
    • Across the Stars
    • Padmé just... Padmé
    • Watching Anakin awkwardly trying to romance a woman despite having absolutely zero experience doing so
    • Seeing the first glimpses of what Anakin would eventually become

    Revenge of the Sith
    • Pretty much everything?

Something I like about the prequels as a whole that I think most dislike them for, and I have no idea whether this was intentional or not but I feel like it portrayed Jedi and Republic life in a very realistic way. It wasn't just wall to wall action all the time, a lot of times it was just mundane and ordinary. Not to say it's boring, but if you don't have any interest in Star Wars politics (I do) I can see why one would find it boring.

I feel like I contribute to this thread once every year or so, but just off the top of my head...

    The Phantom Menace-
Bring the "ordinary world" to Star Wars. We hadn't seen much of the ordinary world in the series outside of the Lars' moisture farm, withe the series instead focusing more on dark Imperial base hallways, scrapppy Rebel bases, occupied settlements, and battlefields. In The Phantom Menace's time of relative peace, we saw a galaxy in its more natural state- from Naboo's beautiful waterfalls and architecture, to the subaquatic glowing city of Otoh Gunga, to the markets of Tatooine and the competitive culture of Podracing, to the rigid politics of the Coruscant senate and the Jedi temple. The Phantom Menace was a reminder what all these "Star Wars" were fighting for.

    Attack of the Clones-
In stark contrast, Attack of the Clones gave us what I believe still to be the best ground battle we've seen in the series (yes, even after Rogue One). The gritty sand blowing around columns of clones and droids is still one of my favorite shots of the prequels, and the escalation of the battle was a great prelude to the carnage to follow. While I still think Episode II should've began with Geonosis and showed more of the Clone War rather than focusing on a noir investigation plot and cheesy romance, there's no denying that the battle itself was well done.

    Revenge of the Sith-
This movie has a lot of wacky, over the top, memeable content. And some people really appreciate that.
But for me, it's best when it slows down and takes some time to breathe. Anakin and Obi Wan's argument before their duel is almost more brutal than when they're swinging swords at each other, as is Obi Wan's lament after the fight. Anakin's haunting ruminations before rushing to save the Chancellor give us one of our last glimpses at him as a conflicted and manipulated Jedi, before giving into the dark side. And Order 66 itself does a great job of being the tragedy that it needs to- rather than showing a half dozen vignettes of Jedi heroically dying while fending off troopers, we instead see them take out without honor, shot in the back by the clones they trusted.
And I know I've posted this on these forums before, but my conspiracy theory is that the early parts of the film are so awkward, slaphappy, cringey, and meme-worthy specifically because they're meant to contrast with the later more somber tones. They're the halcyon days of when Obi Wan and Anakin could trade silly quips, before they hated each other. Before the dark times.

I like this thread! Im going to just list out what I like about the PT films. I feel people are going to disagree with me lol. Thats fine, its just my opinion :)

    1. Surprisingly, I do like the dramatic, over the top, dialogue from the PT. I like how it adds a cool feel to the films.
    2. I love all the cool and diverse planets we see throughout the films.
    3. I love clone troopers. They are loyal for the most part until order 66 and they are creative soldiers.
    4. I like Ewan’s and Hayden’s acting. This may be controversial but it is my opinion. Feel free to disagree and discuss
    5. The music was amazing in my opinion. I think John Williams did very well with the music. I mean, who doesn’t like Across the Stars lol
    6. A lot of cool, intense duels took place in the PT’s like Anakin vs Obi-wan, Windu vs Plaps, Obi-wan and Anakin and Yoda vs Count Dooku, and others
    7. The overall dramatic irony throughout the PT’s with Anakin Skywalker. As fans and watchers, we know that Anakin turns to the Dark Side and becomes Darth Vader. But all the characters do not. So that irony is pretty cool. It makes the PT’s very fun to watch on my opinion.

My love of the Prequel Trilogy stems from one simple observation:

    It dared to be different.

It was reminiscent of the old films with similar visual and story motifs, but it was clearly the same galaxy at a different time. I loved that more than anything. I will never forget the first time I saw the first “real” look of the prequel trilogy; it was that photo of Queen Amidala in that two-page Annie Leibovitz spread from Vanity Fair. I remember being puzzled (“I’ve never seen something so elegant in Star Wars”) intrigued (“that dress looks so spacey and yet so culturally traditional like it has always existed”) and overall delighted (“Wow, this is so different from Princess Leia’s hair-buns.”)

This is very true and a lost art in Hollywood these days in the era of the generic blockbuster. While I have my problems with the execution of the PT, I respect that Lucas had a vision and stuck with that. He clearly wanted to make a trilogy that connected with the OT to make one narrative story while expanding the galaxy through world building. He succeeded in that respect, and that’s why I believe the PT will hold up from a certain POV.

As most people have answered what made the movies so great. I'll answer it by what I didn't like:

    1.Anakin's whining/immaturity/gullibility.
    2. Forced romance between Anakin and Padme
    3. The weak excuse for Anakin turning to the dark side.

Otherwise I loved everything else! Especially Ian MacDiarmid's turn as Iago.

I really loved the set designs and environments they crafted, especially for The Phantom Menace. There was a lot of vibrant colors and it made a lot of the scenes in the movies very memorable for me. I applaud George for developing a lot of the backstories of the characters we see in the original films too. I think he did a wonderful job doing that while creating an overall cohesive story. I mean the plot had issues of course, but hey, I'm still happy about the way it turned out!

The OT has very rich visuals. Even with the older tech they used to create the films, every scene had depth and it was rich with details in each set/map painting. The PT was that times 10. I mean the depth, richness, and detail of each movie was astounding. The ST didn't have that richness and depth.

Not to mention the story of how Anakin became Vader.

    I love the PT.

One of the best scenes is when they try to land the Invisible Hand. Watching the great Sith Lord’s reactions as they try to land the ship is hilarious! The way Sidious looks and his glances at R2 was just the best reactions.

To me there's always been something magical about the prequel trilogy, the brilliance of George Lucas and what makes Star Wars so uniquely special really shines as bright as ever in the prequels IMO, and the Clone Wars only went and enhanced that tenfold.

I'd like to say that I enjoy the prequels for the very fact they "complete" by "beginning". I like Phantom Menace a lot over the others; primarily due to the the way it has a foreshadowing of the sequels to come with Anakin and how he's chosen to be darth vader later. I love the Phantom Menace for Darth Maul's purpose and focus into being the baddie and how he's all part of the plan to the galaxy conquest. Perhaps that's why I also love Darth Vader because you can feel his emotions coming from who he was as Anakin only to be consumed by the dark side. Fantastic Films

I agree with everything you have said ! I love Hayden because for me personally he played Anakin perfectly. I don’t dislike anything about any of the movies but I am aware people’s views are different. For early 2000s as-well the cinematic experiences were phenomenal! I have to say without a doubt the duel of fates is one of the mightiest duels ever on screen ! overall the prequels are key to Star Wars whether you live them or hate them :D
