    - I love John Williams score (even if it was butchered).
    - I love the world building. The detail and artistry that went into designing worlds like Coruscant, Naboo, and Utapau.
    - I love that Lucas and his team designed back stories and unnecessary details to make the world feel more real. From caste systems on Utapau to the different districts of Coruscant, a lot of thought was put into these places.
    - I love Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid for finding ways to chew scenery and give believable performances under difficult circumstances.
    - I love the deep politics and scientific backgrounds that Lucas developed (even if they were sometimes over-explained)
    - I love Order 66. the concept that the storm troopers we feared in the OT were the very thing that betrayed and ruined the jedi order was a great idea.

Everything you listed! and I guess a bit more!

I love them purely because it was my generation, I grew up with them. So I love them with a nostalgia effect, I grew up sure and saw them for what they were. Yet, I still like them.. specially when they're so notoriously hated! haha

    Episode 1:
    1. Perhaps controversial, but I liked the droids. They weren't very effective alone or in small groups, but showed that in swarms could be a real terrorizing force (either bulldozing the forests early on or against the Gungans in the end.) Plus, as opposed to their Attack of the Clones depiction, their voices were for the most part dispassionate and deeper which I found gave them the appropriate presence.
    2. Darth Maul - while many criticize him for his supposed lack of personality and unnecessary flashiness, I always thought that what made him a powerful character was his lack of dialogue coupled with his body language and animalistic ferocity. It made him seem more like a force of nature and far more mysterious. His personality and drive came through in his excellently acted body language than in his speech.
    3. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, both of which portrayed their respective roles of teacher and student very well I thought, and gave us a great arc culminating in the student taking on the role of the teacher for the next generation.
    4. Another thing not everyone agrees with is the pod race, but I found the whole event and the surrounding buildup very enjoyable. It was action-packed and quite the visual spectacle, without sacrificing any other parts of the story.
I'll get around to the other episodes later.

I like that the focused more on the Jedi Order and how much you wanted to be a jedi and use the force. that thats how they battle back in the days. lightsaber was more functionable in the PT. and with the OT being more force of the mind and now with the ST being force driven. just from thinking of the direction they are going with TFA i feel that they are making the Jedi legends in the PT. and Luke is the last of them in the OT and the force as a whole is shown in the ST.

May the force be with you always...

    - Score (big time)
    - Scope of the world | Design
    - Palpatin's plan (why Lucas wrote all himself, he needed help)
    - Race sequence in FM
    - Some of the duels and action scenes (Arena for example)
    - R2D2
    - Despite problem with the dialog, forced romance and acting - main characters were likeable, not all the time (see 1st part)

    7 out 10 overall

PS For some awesome games like SW KOTOR or Jedi Knight 2 (We probably didn't have them without 1-3)

The imagination, the details, the landscapes, the intrigue, the aliens, the planets, the people and their plight. The way the prequels were conceived and developed was not the best, but this forum is about the good things. I love Coruscant and everything about it. The place fascinates the hell out of me. After reading a lot of the comics I have developed a deep love for the underworld of Coruscant. Thankfully the prequels brought environments and societies such as these to life. It really brought Star Wars and its history alive for me. I do hope Disney delves deeper into the Knights of the Old Republic in an anthology movie and reminds us with vivid detail how it all began and the struggle that ensues. But since they killed canon, can I really hope to expect it?

Great epic and imaginative story about how people with good intentions screw up in the end. Just like in real life.

The Phantom Menace came out when I was 8 years old so I'll always have a positive connection to the movie, it always brings back the feeling of being amazed by this new world. Like everyone else I hate Binks but the rest of it I actually really like in general, especially Darth Maul and the fight.

I can't say I have a lot of good things to say about Attack of the Clones. The Naboo scenes were actually filmed in my hometown in the south of Spain and it's pretty much the same as it can be seen in the movie and it's a public place, so you can go hang out in Naboo whenever you want, I guess that's a good thing AotC did.

Revenge of the Sith I did like for the most part, they did a great job at explaining how the Empire came to be and even Natalie Portman had one of the best lines of the ENTIRE saga when she says so this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.

But thank god for the anticheese edits.

I liked the prequels for preparing me for TFA. I watched ONLY the prequels the day before TFA opened and I went to see it with fear, dread and lowered expectations. Imagine my surprise that TFA was much better than I hoped it would be! The prequels should be sold as depressants. ;)

Hmm. I was trying to figure out how I would rate the prequels the other day. I have not seen them nearly as much as the OT because they just didn't appeal to me nearly as much. However, I was about 10 when TPM came out and was still pretty pumped to be able to see a Star Wars movie in theatres for the first time.

-John Williams Score (all the films)
-Duel of the Fates Lightsaber battle
-The Podracing.. (I think I liked the video game more though) :p
    -Watto
    -Zam Wesell
-Aurra Sing making an appearance in TPM

    Short and sweet.

    TPM:
    Qui-Gon Jinn

    AOTC:
Count Dooku (should have been introduced in ep 1)
The story up to Kamino is actually quite good, minus the meeting with the fat CGI guy in the bar - Dexter Jettser or whatever his name was.

    ROTS:
    The emperor
    Anakin's hair

It's safe to say it's a hell of a lot easier listing things I don't like with these movies.

I like that I can put a dot on the center of the screen and the entire trilogy rarely moves from focusing on this spot.
That may sound like a weird like, but I like it because Lucas intended that; he specifically wanted to make this trilogy shot like old 40's and 50's movies that he grew up on and so he shot them using the same camera techniques as those old films, which means everything is dead-center of the screen, and the camera rarely does anything other than track left and right, pan from side to side a bit, or sit perfectly still, and that almost all talking is a neck-up close shot of the character's face dead-center of the screen and then the other character's face neck-up, rather than positioning them at opposite angles in the same shot along the right and left thirds of the screen with one near and one far and toggling the camera like a viewer's head back and forth (modern film style).

Consequently, I think this is the primary reason that everyone hate them - more than any other factor, even though I doubt most realized this effect. The reason I think this is because without an awareness of the intention as an artistic homage, this is incredibly boring to modern eyeballs because your eyeballs never have to move around the screen; you just look at one spot for almost the entire time.

It was a great piece of directorial art, but I think the consequence was unfortunately a lost sense of captivation.

My top 10 moments of the Prequels
    1. Obi-wan vs. Anakin
    2. Landing the sep flagship on Coruscant
    3. Mace Windu stopping the Party on Geonosis
    4. Duel of the Fates
    5. Little Anakin escaping the droid control ship
    6. Order 66
    7. Yoda vs. Sidious
    8. obi-wan vs. Jango Fett
    9. Battle over Coruscant
    10. The tale of Darth Plagius
not surprisingly, most of my moments came from ROTS.
i don't think it is a secret that ROTS is the best of the prequel trilogy, and I personally think it rivals TESB.

I just watched these again recently in order. While they have their flaws individually, as a collective I liked how Lucas tried to show the more 'expansive civilization' side (yes including politics- just look at our own history and surrounding political implications of time periods) and the 'legendary/ancient' nature of certain things.

Every time I hear overall flaming of the PT, I'm always instantly reminded of Obi-wan to Luke in ANH - "Your father's light saber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire." And IMO, the bolded words are what the PT was trying to convey in a mere handful of hours.

NIce thread, i like most don't think the prequels are perfect, their are a lot of mis steps in them, some awful cheese, bad performances, shocking dialogue..... but their are also lots of things to love and some great Ideas in the films:
    • The plot, while i don't think it was executed very well, the actual plot is fascinating with Palpatine manipulating the galaxy over decades so they give him control freely, is so different and fresh from what we normally see in these kind of films, (Ie: bad guy raises army and tries to defeat good guys) and while Lucas didn't quite pull it off, think he deserves praise for trying such a complicated. different and interesting story.
    • I love the scope and scale of the prequels, you really get a feeling that this affects the whole galaxy.
    • Ewan McGregor
    • The space battle at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith, the CGI of which is as good as any ever seen on screen.
    • The light sabre battles ( the one at the end of the phantom menace is still the best in the entire saga)
    • Darth Maul
    • Ian McDiarmid's performance (espcially the Darth Plagueis scene, which is amazingly good and probably explains why so many people are obsessed about Plagueis now, as that scene was just amazing!)
    • John Williams Score
    • The different designs of the different planets.
    • Qui-Gon Jinn
    • Costume design, i don't know if any won an Oscar, but all three films deserved one.

None of the STAR WARS movies are perfect. None of them. All SEVEN OF THEM have their own set of missteps. I can say the same for just about every movie I have seen.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that those who do like the Prequel movies are supposed to justify their opinion in such threads.

I don't see why anyone has to justify why he or she likes certain movies. They either do or don't. If fans like me have to justify why we like the Prequel movies, then other fans need to justify why they like the Original movies or TFA.

I for one really appreciate all the scheming and plotting that good old Sheev Palpatine did throughout the trilogy. It can be frustrating to see how badly Amidala (or however you spell it) screwed up by making him Chancellor.

I also like seeing the Jedi Order as an actual organization and not a few older gentlemen in hiding. The scale of what the Jedi Order was makes the events in Revenge of the Sith all the more bitter.

And Anakin's rather ironic fall from grace was cool as well, although it could've been executed better, it is still appreciable.
