Great post. Strange bedfellows/allies by necessity would be a good story twist. He's still Kylo Ren...for now...but we see his internal conflicts even more clearly. Even though we know he's got a shred of good still because of taking on Snoke, he's doing so to save his own agenda. But...it's a start. A glimmer. That does make the most sense. I like this idea.

it would indeed be the perfect platform to showcase how screwed up he really is. We already had the slightly 'confused' look from Rey when she looked into his head during the interrogation.. almost like she was oddly surprised instead of afraid.

obviously he skewered Han through the chest in front of her since that moment.. and then they fought in the forest and she near enough took his face off, so sharing each other's company could prove to be very very interesting. it would also present some amazing comedic opportunities.

the film 'Enemy mine' popped in my head whilst typing that.. 2 enemies forced to learn to communicate and become a team to survive.

yes, i've decided that i would love this to happen! perhaps it could even be the story for ep9.. just not sure how you throw Ren and Rey together at the end of TLJ but still as enemies, but it would make for a fascinating cliffhanger.

you're right. they didn't exactly fall in love or anything like that.
though it was 1985 and "coding" for non-traditional relationships was at an all-time high. [shrug]

 

i think my main idea behind Kylo and Rey banding together whilst still enemies to survive... is not to start the ReyLo wagon rolling, but to push Ben into a situation where he would have to learn to communicate with Rey.. to communicate like a "normal" person. The dark side must be one hell of a lonely place, and everything he knows will change if he finds an equal.. someone he can respect, even if he still hates them.

Luke came to Vader of his own free will on Endor in ROTJ. As soon as Vader realized his son had given himself up to try and talk him into coming back to the light... everything changed. Luke became an equal to him.. excuse my language here but Vader realized that his son had balls.. fraggin big ones. watch that scene again before they fly up to the death star... Vader communicates like a normal person - probably the first time he has done so since he turned. "It's too late for me, son" - this is not something a dark lord of the sith says... dude was turning from this point.

so we get Rey and Ben together in some life or death situation and they are forced to spend time in each other's company:-
respect, then communication.. then job done, Ben Solo back in da house.

 

i like this scenario! as a "eh" proponent of Rey & Ben as a couple, i just love the idea of them having to learn to cooperate and work together to save the galaxy. there will be all kinds of juicy friction and it will necessarily bring them closer together. Rey can learn a lot about the Force from Ben, and he can learn a lot about goodness and strength of conviction from her.

i love that Vader moment. it's so conciliatory on Vader's part. you can hear his desire to be as brave and righteous as Luke. pure gold.

 

I don't care whether he becomes redeemed or not, as long as he is dead by the end of "Episode IX".

 

I don't bloody care either. Am sick of characters being ruined just to prop him up. All the care I had for him in TFA has gone completely. That's not Driver's fault, that's Rian.

 

I think he will be redeemed and then kill himself to save someone, probably Rey. If Kathleen Kennedy is fine with it of course.

 

They (St Department, Hidalgo,KK,JJ, RJ) were obviously capable to end saga with all Skywalkers dad without a blink of an eye.

TLJ Box Office could change their"vision"so let us hope at least One Skywalker ends alive at the end of
9 films saga that started by birth of Anakin Skywalker.
