This was just posted on MSW.

    http://makingstarwars.net/2015/07/s...dor-to-the-battle-of-jakku-galactic-conflict/

    • Coruscant was in chaos, Grand Vizier Mas Amedda attempted to keep the Empire together by any means necessary.
    • The Imperial chain of command was is in disarray; no one knew exactly which superior officer they were supposed to follow or what the consequences for doing so might be.
    • Several powerful people tried to declare themselves Emperor; the rank and file didn’t really care much for those declarations any longer.
    • Pretenders to the throne used their forces to fight one another and chaos ensued.
    • The Anoat sector was cut of completely.
    • The Rebel Alliance secured several systems and set up bases there in relative peace with minor resistance.
    • The Rebel Alliance proclaimed itself The New Republic by this time.
    • The New Republic was established in the Hosnian System.
    • One year after The Battle of Endor the galaxy was still in all out war, however.
    • Emperor Palpatine was praised as a martyr by many and young and untrained Imperial Cadets were sent to the front lines in his name.
    • Many battles for Naboo were fought in the year after Emperor Palpatine’s death.
    • The capital of Naboo, Theed, was well protected and stable.
    • Imperial sympathizers tried rallying at Naboo because it was Emperor Palpatine’s homeworld. The planet was still relatively wealthy and healthy.
    • The Empire repeatedly tried to invade it but every attempt was thwarted.
    • The New Republic celebrated their victory in liberating Naboo by the third battle.
    • Sondiv Sella served the New Republic beside Mon Mothma and Leia Organa.
    • The New Republic had a provisional galactic senate with elected representatives established.
    • Imperial laws were rewritten by the New Republic to be more benevolent and just.
    • Democracy was returning.
    • Worlds polluted by Imperial strip mining were being rebuilt; there was also slavery reparations.
    • One year out, Jakku was seen as a worthless world.
    • There was strategic value in Jakku for one power hungry Moff who wanted to win back the sector.
    • A leader of the New Republic, General Carlist Rieekan sent a team out to capture a Star Destroyer christened The Inflictor, over Jakku.
    • The Battle of Jakku took place in the stars, sky, and land.
    • The Battle of Jakku was the largest battle since The battle of Endor.
    • The New Republic gained an advantage through better tactics despite the Empire outnumbering them vastly.
    • The Captain of The Inflictor decided to follow protocol and down the ship rather than surrender it to an insurgency.
    • The ship then crashed to the surface of Jakku.
    • One month after the Battle of Jakku there were no longer any large scale battles by the Empire and they vanished into a nebula.
    • Having gathered their forces for a counterattack and establishing a new chain of command; Imperial vessels within Core and Immer Rim areas stayed within borders defined by a treaty waiting to erupt at any moment.
As we can see, there was a lot of turmoil following Return of the Jedi. Stability is not certain and we know that when we get to Star Wars: The Force Awakens Leia Organa is leading the Resistance. It appears the Inflictor is the ship Rey drives by in The Force Awakens. Sondiv Sella is likely a parent of Korr Sella who will serve the resistance under Leia in The Force Awakens. Other things stand out like The New Republic being based off Courscant, in the Hosnian System.

The post-Return of the Jedi era just got a whole lot more fascinating than it has ever been in my opinion. The era is now ripe for tons of fantastic Star Wars stories to be told and create the climate for the chaos in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

I believe there was a post on Reddit a while back that had much of this information. I cannot remember if that poster was debunked or not, but it feels like the same info.

This also leads me to believe (I've speculated this before a LONG time ago) that Max Von Sydow is actually playing General Rieeken.

If this thread is redundant please merge it with the relevant thread.

Very interesting, thanks for posting @techsteveo :)

For what it's worth, canon info re: Anoat sector back this up to a point:

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Anoat_sector/Canon

    This I don't like, however:

The entire Imperial war machine, hiding in a nebula? Whaaaaa'?!

MvS as Rieken does make a lot of sense. Could be....

Leia is both a leader in the New Republic and the Resistance?

Perhaps her position in the Resistance is secret? Or she's no longer part of the New Republic.

I guess the timeline was only from Endor to Jakku so still almost 25 years of changes.

So if I'm getting at this correctly, the Galactic Empire/First Order basically become the Yuuzhan Vong in spirit?

Cool to see that they actually do something with Mas Amedda in this time period, though.

The bit about the Anoat sector sticks out to me, too. That's the same sector in Star Wars: Uprising. Perhaps the game is all that note in the article is referring to, but I took it to mean that the Anoat sector continued to be isolated, and therefore free(r) of the chaos that plagued other Imperial sectors. Perhaps, if it continued to successfully shield itself from the galaxy at large, it could be a good potential birthplace for the First Order.

Heck. They've got a snow planet there and everything!

Are these details in new Star Wars(official) novels/comics/video games/media?
It seems many details in the post Battle of Endor(ROTJ) era will be in the Disney-Lucasfilm novel: Aftermath.
I hope TFA doesn't sling around a bunch of planet names, ships, stuff without any explaining or details.
Some Sci Fi shows and films do that, :( . Stargate, BattleStar Gallatica(Syfy version), Star Trek(TV series), etc.

30-35 years is a LONG time. Battles are won-lost, systems go back & forth, etc.
We(the mainstream audience and long time Star Wars fans) shouldn't be left in the lurch.

What if the First Order are the imperials who returned after disappearing into that Nebula? And they found Snoke there....then he would be the Yuuzhan Vong of this universe.

Interesting, almost how they originally found Thrawn years before and then later after the Emperor's demise, he unleashes hell upon the New Republic. I like this.

Very interesting. This adds framework and scope to some of my own theories. Empire disappearing into a nebula? Perhaps that's the method they use to escape, but they set up somewhere else.

Regardless, we are living in a very exciting time for Star Wars and its fans!

    Note:
In the Marvel Star Wars comics, the entire Rebel Fleet tried hiding in a sun.
The big plan back-fired and R2/C3PO saved the day, (r2-d2).
They were going to have a huge network of solar powered shields cover every vessel  .
It was a good plot & exciting comic in the early 1980s.

The new information seems to be corresponding with the information from

    (1) Aftermath:

"As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy's scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy's strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but is taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

Meanwhile, on the planet's surface, former Rebel fighter Norra Wexley has returned to her native world—war weary, ready to reunite with her estranged son, and eager to build a new life in some distant place. But when Norra intercepts Wedge Antilles's urgent distress call, she realizes her time as a freedom fighter is not yet over. What she doesn't know is just how close the enemy is—or how decisive and dangerous her new mission will be.

Determined to preserve the Empire's power, the surviving Imperial elite are converging on Akiva for a top-secret emergency summit—to consolidate their forces and rally for a counterstrike. But they haven't reckoned on Norra and her newfound allies—her technical genius son, a Zabrak bounty hunter, and a reprobate Imperial defector—who are prepared to do whatever they must to end the Empire's oppressive reign once and for all."

    (2) Shattered Empire:

"Emperor Palpatine’s twenty-year reign of terror came to an abrupt and fiery end in the skies above the forest moon of Endor. A decisive victory for the Rebel Alliance, to be sure, but even with the loss of its leadership, the Empire’s Moffs and regional governors retained their hold on important systems from the Core to the Outer Rim, thanks to the might of the Imperial Starfleet. Now, with a power vacuum atop the Empire, those Moffs will jockey for position and control, and the heroes of the Rebel Alliance will soon discover that a wounded and fractious Empire may be more dangerous than any threat they faced before!"

    (3) Uprising:

"In the days following the Battle of Endor and the fall of the Emperor, The Anoat sector has been locked down by the Empire. With the Rebel Alliance on the other side of the Iron Blockade, it falls to the sector's smugglers, freedom fighters, bounty hunters and gangsters to join forces and form an uprising."

I know it won't happen, but as a symbolic gesture I would like to see Luke and Leia go to Naboo in this series, if for no other reason than to visit their mothers grave. I think it would be a nice touch. Their spirit and energy and sense of right and wrong carry so much of their mother that to just never visit even her grave would be kind of tragic to me in and of itself. Amidala deserves at least to be visited by her kids. Can't find a story reason why this would be needed though.

I agree with the sentiment. Leia actually went to Naboo in the recent comic book series (which took place between ANH and ESB). She felt something when she saw a mural of Padme there. However, if I remember correctly, Leia did not seem to be aware of whom she was. It would be touching if Luke and Leia would go to Naboo sometime during the sequel trilogy, but, like you indicate, there needs to be a good reason.

All of this makes me wish there were some kind of linking short showing before TFA but as a separate entity, maybe just CGI ships and planets, with a voiceover from Leia or Luke. I suspect that the crawl will significantly shorten the history aspect and just say "after a period of peace the New Republic is threatened by the emergence of the First Order..." or something on those lines.

It would be a hoot if JJ and Lucas had a Naboo scene with a statue of Jar Jar, saying how he died a hero.

    A huge statue! ;)
