What happened to Maz ?

Maybe that newspaper article was right after all. I'm pretty sure she was supposed to have scenes at the resistance base they cut the scene from the teaser

Wasn't there a shot in the 2nd teaser where we saw Maz hand the lightsaber over to Leia? Where was that?!

 

There was a newspaper article couple months back that was dismissed because of the source, The Sun, a British tabloid paper that stated that lupita had trouble adapting to acting mo cap work and her performance was underwhelming and just didn't work well so much so that her role got cut to smaller role than originally intended. Of course JJ at the time dismissed the article saying it wasn't true. But now I wonder if there was some truth to it after all

 

If I had a problem with the movie it's with Maz. Not because of the character or even the CG. It's the lack of her "ending." It felt a bit choppy.

I need a bit more about where she is now, following the movie. Did she make it to the Reistance base? Does she know Leia?

That said, all that would be solved if we see her in ep. 8 or Rogue One or a comic or something.

 

Maz handing Leia the saber ended up the same place as the Tatooine sandstorm, Luke's blue lightsaber blade and the word "Revenge" did from this trailer...

 

We also don't see Unkar Plutt in Maz castle as the behind the scenes footage had us believe . This cut i am more happy with cause it made no sense for him to be there so fast and i couldn't get my head around it.

EDIT: Btw did anyone see Sarco Plank ? I totally missed it.

 

I think he is walking in the background the first time that Rey goes to the Niima outpost. I did not see Zuvio either (maybe in the flashback but not sure)

 

Was Sarco in the Jakku village? When the Tie Fighters attack?

 

Maybe I missed it, but did Maz said that revealing sentence from a TV spot: ' I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people. I see your eyes. I know your eyes.'? I was extra careful but she just talked about Finn's eyes, that they are the eyes of a coward.

She did, but it was split between another line.

I think it was more 'the eyes of someone who wants to run'. The meaning was 'coward'. Finn is leaving because... he is scared of the First Order as he knows the potential of Starkiller base.

She gives Finn the lightsaber to give it to Rey - because it called out to her, and Maz believes that's important. Rey has run into the forest because the vision scares the shiz out of her. Maz has seen evil in many iterations (Sith, Empire, and now the First Order) - and it needs to be fought. She gives Finn the lightsaber and tells him to give it to Rey. One or two cuts later the fight cranks up and he says to her 'I need a weapon' - to which she looks at the saber and says 'you have a weapon' or something like that. He runs off and joins the fight.

 

She has to know something about him, she wouldnt just say that for a reason, she must know that not just anyone can use a lightsaber

 

As I remember it, Finn was going to run after Rey and Maz wanted Finn to deliver the saber to her, not keep it himself.
When the battle begins, Maz matter-of-factly, casually, states Finn can use the saber to fight. Han previously said Maz is an "acquired taste", ie. a quirky personality. I didn't read any more to it.

 

I'm with @John Skywalker on this one sorry bud. Finn showed no force potential whatsoever during this film, it was all Rey. He had fighting skills, but Stormies have sword training. I recollect the film being the same as above. Moments later however, Han shoots a stormie behind him without even looking - a humerous moment but maybe he was Force sensitive. He was always too lucky for me...

 

I thought I must have missed something, because it was a character that seemed to just disappear. There had been a lot of discussion around the characters of Maz and Snoke, but they did very little to advance the story. We probably could have seen more of them, and less of Han Solo. Ah well. Next film!

 

Anyone can activate a lightsaber and use it. But only force users can use its potentiale in combat.
