Im not dictating anything. I am having a conversation in this threat with people in this thread and that was my idea. Not is it feasible, not could they pull it off, not did Marvel (part of same company) make a deal with the devil to pull it off, just wondering what people would think.

We don't often agree, but every now and then you finally say something intelligent and I rejoice (just kidding!). But seriously, I don't see why everyone mystifies what Marvel is doing. Stories that tie in, one to another? Arch villains that are effecting events over numerous films (sometimes they are seen, but often not)? Why is this so hard to see/do?

Everyone talks about DCCU flopping, but you've been the only one to say why they failed. They failed because they rushed things. You had what, one Superman film and then boom Batman v. Superman and then boom Justice League? Not exactly taking their tie were they?

LFL could do this, and I think at one point they said that was what they wanted to do. But it takes time and it takes planning and it takes bringing in the right creative people. Not rushing it like the DCCU or the ST was. We can only hope they get it right with the new films.

Kennedy said something recently about keeping Star Wars different and that's probably wise. One advantage Mavel has is each character is a super hero. Star Wars really doesn't have that. The Jedi are the super heroes (kind of), but they share the same super power. Could a Poe or Finn stand alone film work? I'm not sure.

That doesn't mean they can't tie films together though. It just means they have to go about it in a different way. Hopefully that's what they're trying to do.

No, it couldn't and TLJ is a proof for this. Finn and/or Poe were (the most) exciting to watch as long as they were paired together with each other or with Rey.

I don't think they could lead a force-based movie like TLJ
They could lead a separate movie that is removed from the force like Rogue One was. Or a show.

It's kind of funny that Marvel's most Star War like film is the Guardians of the Galaxy which is kind of a Star Wars ripoff ensemble ( I love it so I'm not being negative). Like Star Wars I don't think a solo film with Star-Lord would work.

    In a Guardians-style movie, it probably wouldn't.
In a smaller scale more intimate film, it could.

edit: Sorry, whatever was going on with my account seems resolved now, apologies for the no-context quote.

Anyway, what I was going to saw was...:

Part of Marvel's strength is that they've taken what hasn't worked and made it better. Cap and Tony were always great, but characters like Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye had much rockier starts.

Instead of completely scrapping those characters from the universe though, they found a way to make them work. I think Hulk's real redemption started as early as the recasting with Ruffalo in 2012, but 2017's Thor Ragnarok is sort of the apotheosis of rewiring a broken Marvel character. And I get why some people don't like it (it does feel a bit too similar to GOTG), but Marvel recognized Thor as a vital part of the series and new that his character needed to be "cured" for audiences.

Speaking of which, leaning in to projects like GOTG and Ant-Man paid off, in that those characters are now some of the fan favorites.

Personally, I think Marvel's real strength is realizing that the series isn't about plot- it's about character. It's about getting all of these heroic, wacky, tragic individuals together and bouncing them off each other. That's not to say there is no plot, but I think it's clear the priority Marvel really had was on character building.

The problem with Star Wars is... we haven't really had that, in my opinion. Marvel has a huge advantage with this, in some regards. Not only does each character get his or her own movie (for the most part) but there are also decades of comic books, animation, and other films building that mythos.

In Star Wars, we're more than familiar with Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, the droids, and Lando. But this isn't their story. I've said before that we don't really know Rey, Finn, or Kylo yet. We've just seen them on a bad week. Even Poe has the comics, but I'm sure most fans haven't read those.

And I'm not saying Marvel's approach is the only approach by any means, but Star Wars is literal light years of being able to emulate it.

I agree with this. I didn't like Thor or Thor Dark World so I didn't exactly go in to see Ragnarok with high expectations, but I thoroughly enjoyed that movie. Not perfect, but still a fine MCU outing. And the similarities to GotG don't bother me since they exist in the same universe so, if anything, it would make sense that we see some similarities.
Growing up (before the movies came out) I've always thought Marvel Comics had such great characters compared to DC because they are pretty flawed. An alcoholic, a blind guy, a guy in a wheelchair, a high school nerd, an abusive husband - and those are the heroes..!!
The Poe Dameron comic had some really good stories in there but was eventually cancelled due to poor sales. I liked it a lot and was very disappointed it was cancelled but there just isn't any demand for the new characters. That's why the current comics are almost exclusively based on the Original Trilogy characters and timelines. Even the Dr. Aphra comic outsold Poe Dameron by the end of his run. Think about that: The comic based on a character who never appeared in any of the movies (but exists in the OT timeframe and has OT characters regularly appearing) outsold the comic based on a main character from the ST movies. Ouch.

    Definitely, flaws are super important.

I'd even say it's why people tend to prefer Batman over Superman, but also why I personally think Superman is best used as a villain (as in Red Son, or off brand in Brightburn).

Of course, some people appreciate Supes specifically for his boy scoutishness, so more power to them.

Anyway, back on topic- I think "intermingle" is a pretty good word for how Star Wars should approach this, if I could allow myself to be obnoxiously semantic.

"Crossover" is a little too strong. Star Wars is great when we get little bits and pieces that make the galaxy feel like one connected thing (Galaxy's Edge looks to be doing this well). We don't necessarily need an ancient Fett to show up in a KOTOR era movie, but still showing something that would connect to existing canon would almost be necessary.

The Marvel movies have one main dilemma: picking the right characters and villain. Plot and scenery come second. Not to knock down Marvel movies, but every one I’ve watched feels so... similar. Almost like I’m watching the same film thematically: hero finds power, hero fights bad guy, huge Act 3 blow-em-up sequence. Post credit sequence advertising the next one.

Star Wars has a much different problem. It’s not just the characters but the stories from here on need to be taken into a different direction. I truly believe Star Wars fans are a different breed of fan, one that is super-picky on the type of entertainment they consume.
