    We've had a lot of rumours discussing Luke's screen time and involvement in TFA, but I haven't necessarily seen anything to contradict the possibility of him being a force ghost. I don't necessarily just mean in TFA, but rather that he could die before or during the film and appear as a ghost either in this instalment or the next. What do you think?

    Well, I'm not sure about this but don't all force ghosts voices echo, echo, echo??? Luke's voice in the second teaser does echo, right?

    Yeah, there is generally a lot of reverb for force ghosts. However, Mark Hamill said a few things regarding the "my father HAS it" (opposed to had) that implied the dialogue was just a rerecording of ROTJ dialogue and not purposed for the new film at all. That said, it is confirmed that it's him with R2 in the teaser and that it's on Jakku, so it's likely that he will be alive for a portion of the film at least (unless it's a flashback).

    Like I said, I'm not keen on this idea particularly, but I thought it a concept worth exploring since it would be a good mirror for the Ben Kenobi guidance in the OT and we all know how Star Wars is known to mirror itself (although this may change under new leadership).

    Here I go again (sorry!), but has this really been confirmed? May I ask where? I would like to know because I hope it is him, but for some reason I doubt it (the hooded guy looks too dainty or something). If this has been confirmed to be Hamill, I'll be a happy boy indeed :D

    I tend to agree no way is Luke dead in this movie. JJ wouldn't do that!

    No it has not been confirmed that it is Hamill. People used his hand as evidence, but I still think it is his stunt double based on the body type. It would be great if someone found a pic of the stunt double's hand as comparison, but that task seems highly unlikely to ever occur. Even if it is not Hamill, it is almost certainly Luke.

    Luke could still appear as a force ghost in future spin-offs but not in the ST he still has one last moment to make in the galaxy.

    While it is *possible* that they could make Luke a force-ghost, I don't think it's gonna happen. That would mean a story arc that would be in the books and a lot of people (as in normal cinema viewers) don't read the books or comics for 'plot details'. They're (the normal cinema viewers) gonna want to see something played out that is important to the movie in the movie.. An example I give is in Empire Han talks about peacing out when they're on Hoth because of a bounty hunter. We know enough to add that to what has happened in the previous movie that he needs to go sooner than later. Do regular viewers care what that meet up was really about in detail? Probably not. It's a point A to point B tactic.

    There is nothing stopping them from going down that route, but I honestly don't think he'll be a force ghost in this film.

    I honestly doubt Luke will be a TFA force ghost.
    I keep posting that he might have a "all is lost" or "I'm defeated." event then force ghost Yoda shows up, VO by Frank Oz then he'll be strengthened by Yoda's words or information that might carry over to EP8.

    For both Luke and Yoda to be force ghosts is not a likely event either but it MAY occur that way.
    I think Liam Neeson doing a full force ghost cameo as Qui-Gonn is more realistic then Luke being smoked.

    In this movie I don't think he will be a Force Ghost. However I do suspect that at some point in the ST (either VIII or XI) he is going to die and at some point he may come back as a Force Ghost like Obi Wan did in ESB.
