I've been thinking - what if, instead of being a force-sensitive enigma who was apparently been lurking for hundreds of years, Snoke was more of an ordinary disgruntled alien who just idolizes the Sith and hates the Jedi?

Then it would make more sense for Snoke to need Ben in order to seize control of the galaxy, and we wouldn't have to try to explain why Snoke was never seen in the PT or OT (he could've just not been born yet).

I have a hard time accepting the idea that "Snoke seems to be somebody, but we don't really know who" - so what if he was just a nobody?

Disclaimer: I reserve the right to take back this idea if TROS gives a clever backstory for Snoke, especially one that ties him to Palpatine. :D

Here's the thing. I think you're right. But I kinda hate it.

I mean, this is the guy destroyed everything our heroes fought for in the Original Trilogy. He destroyed the Republic. He destroyed the new Jedi academy. He turned Ben Solo evil.

If he's just a "nobody," that feels so narratively unsatisfying to me. That a random nobody could waltz in--off screen of all things--and do all this.

But I also think it's probably the case. With everything IX has to do, it's hard to imagine making time to explain Snoke.
