What if someone were to hack Disney's and/or Lucasfilms's IT networks to leak TFA?

How funny would it be if a fake scene was filmed containing the supposed only scene of Luke Skywalker and was leaked online? :D

Like the one on Skellig Michael that surfaced a year ago on YouTube, was promptly taken down, and has resurfaced in the past week?

No I mean a legit scene with music in which we can actually see the characters and everything only for it to not be in the movie. That would be the ultimate most epic mysterybox move.

Don't worry, Jason Ward has a crisis plan for this very scenario ;)

I will bet that their edit suites are connected through an internal network and do not have outside access. Meaning only their edit machines can access footage tied to that network. For the final film to be hacked and released would take someone who is willing to lose their job. Now, a leaked trailer could happen pretty easy if they do any kind of file sharing around the Disney headquaters. Just by the sheer number of entry points that their could be for a hack of some kind.

i hope they are not using crt monitors for editing because they can emit a radio frequency that can be read and decoded by spy technology used by hackers.

but i doubt that a multi billion $ corporation would not be smart enough to have people who are experts in knowing what consists of a safe hard wired closed network of unhackable editing machines.

It would only make sense (in the real world) that a multi-billion dollar empire like LFL/Disney would keep their production machinery off of the external network and only have the various workstations internally connected through an in-house network. Think of the ramifications of having a 12-15 year old (no offense to anyone) overzealous hacker infiltrate the network and perform a data-dump on the internet...it would be disastrous.

I think Disney would put more stormtroopers with fairy dust around, due to the fact of Sony's hack.

The score isn't done yet. I'd hold off until July. Hypothetically.

In all seriousness, hacking a film jeopardizes jobs for a lot of people. Vote with your ticket, not your bandwidth cap.

Well said... I expect turnout to be high, and we all like the spoilers, but I would hesitate to release (as an admin) information that I knew was stolen or hacked... leaked is one thing, and for all we know, the leaks we get are part of a carefully orchestrated campaign (studios do that) but there is a vast difference between "I am sharing what is on my desk" and "I went down the hall and jimmied someone's lock" It's a subtle difference, and maybe I am splitting hairs, but...

This comes back to the point I was trying to make in another thread I created regarding the release dates of the main Star Wars movies, how they should not be so late in the year. It causes countless rumors and speculations to go rampant due to overhype and if it was earlier in the year, the hype wouldn't be so large and this fear of someone leaking the plot via questionable means wouldn't be there as much. This also gets into the notion that expectations get super high to the point that someone will be easily disappointed due to their own personal high standards but that in and of itself is a discussion better served in another thread :D

I bet the film won't be leaked until the screeners come out.

It takes a certain amount of time to make a movie... X number of months. We start at Y date, add X months, get Z release date... it's about a 2 year cycle, what with pre-production, filming, editing, etc... it doesn't matter what month the film is released in, once the switch is thrown, there will be speculation and hype for X number of months... that's just the nature of the beast...

If I recall correctly a workprint version of ROTS leaked just a few hours after the release.

Someone hacking the movie is propbably not going to happen. The real concern comes when the movie is sent out to the theaters, something happening like with the batman vs superman trailer.

These hackers are very sophisticated these day in the ways they execute breaches. Furthermore, they could also try indirect approaches too. Don't be fooled by the presumed belief that just because a movie, its scripts and/or story lines are being kept offline, it can't be obtained. And there's also the possibility that they could have someone on the inside and are waiting for the perfect time to do it.
