Out of all the mysteries created by the Force Awakens, none has stirred up the passion of fans as much as Reys parents/origins. We all have our own theory as to who Rey is and will defend/prove it online as much as possible. But only one can be right in the end.

If it turns out that the theory you support is wrong, how will you react? will it ruin the ST? Will you shrug and say 'as long as the movie is good'?

Are there any theories you will never be able to accept?

Do you believe in more than one theory? for instance I am emotionally attached to the Rey Kenobi theory, but i believe that Rey nobody/random is definitely the most likely to turn out true.

Rey Palpatine or Rey Kenobi. Not because I think they are shaky theories, but because they have been speculated upon for so long, that the mystery is gone.

This is me calling Kathleen Kennedy when Rey is related to any other previous SW character.

Eh, it wouldn't matter that much.

I don't get the blood relation fixation. She wasn't raised by her parents obviously it doesn't really matter, I like a character because of who he is not his parents. I hope they make the same move like with Kylo Ren,ok here it is.. just let's move on. You can't just reproduce the ESB twist.

    I couldn't agree more.

As much as I'm opposed to the idea of her being a Kenobi, I love the idea of it being Kenobi's granddaughter saving Skywalker's grandson, etc.; the theory just fundamentally doesn't make any sense to me at all the way that it's typically presented by fans: Obi-Wan went against his character, had a child whilst watching over Luke on Tatooine with someone other than Satine, but never had much of anything to do with them? And then his child just so happens to be Rey's parent?

But even then, I trust in Rian Johnson a heck of a lot, and if Rey's a Kenobi, I'm sure it's been written in a much more elegant way than us fans could pull off.

The mystery excites me, and as much as I think her being Luke's daughter is the most likely if she's to be related to anyone or a Nobody otherwise, I'll only oppose theories like Rey Kenobi until I walk into the movie theatre in some 53 days, at which point, I'll adopt a totally open mind and give myself up to whatever Rian Johnson's engineered for us.

Haha. I have a theory, it's been said, but it's unpopular so I am keeping it to myself, haha.

Yeah, the whole “who is Rey” thing doesn’t bother me at all. I’d like to think she was a nobody and nothing to do with the Skywalker’s/Solo’s.

Reason being, my theory is that the Skywalker bloodline needs to end and a new hero needs to emerge to rebuild the Jedi Order. All traces of Skywalker need to be extinguished - including the creator of the Chosen One. But let’s not go there on this thread... ;)

Well, I'm never wrong, so I have nothing to fear. Just kidding. Haha!

As long as her backstory is well written, I'm open-minded for everything.

I've never really had much of a theory about Rey. Before TFA I thought for sure she was Luke's daughter, but now I believe she's a random with a possible noble parent.

Well now, that's a good question.....

I have long been an absolutely diehard proponent of "Rey Skywalker" since TFA, and haven't quite yet ruled it completely out, although based on that statement you are meant to understand that I have since softened my stance on it dramatically because in its simplest terms...it's almost TOO simple to be true....almost.

Two things that keep me hanging on are as follows...one of them are a new development:

    1. The Star Wars story is PRIMARILY about the continuation of the Skywalker family in a galaxy with the force, good and evil, their rise and fall, and their redemption. The very foundation of the story keeps me tethered to Rey, because in my eyes, Kylo/Ben must die...simply put, and unless he has children, which I don't see happening, that's the end of his story.....so Rey remains...a Skywalker must go on, or the saga ends.
    2. In Ken Liu's new book, "The Legends of Luke Skywalker" to be released at the end of this month, it provides a storied account of Luke Skywalker being on Jakku during the battle. Now some will argue that it never ACTUALLY states that the hooded figure is specifically Luke, but it is only alluded to, but my fellow staff member @Kyle that read the book and wrote the review seems pretty certain that the figure is in fact Luke Skywalker, and states just that in his review. With as smart as I think Kyle is...I believe him, because he's insightful, AND he's also an author...so he understands the writer, and understands the minor things. The thing about that story that could lead me either way, is a notation that Luke took a moment to stand and look upon a downed AT-AT and quietly ponder it....and strangely, Rey ended up living in one, but did Luke merely just have a hand in hiding a FS child for friends, or was/is she his own...this could go either way.

With all of those loose ends seemingly related in an undisclosed manner, it leads me to believe that Luke KNOWS Rey, knows OF her, had a "robotic hand" in her living on Jakku, and now is faced with the ghost of the past as she's sought him out through the will of the Force...but it could go either way...but SOMEHOW I think she'll be a Skywalker.

If I'm wrong, I'll accept it humbly...but with some disappointment. :)

As long as the movie is well made and the plot good, moving, and strong, I don't care if my guesswork turns out to be wrong. More power to LFL! :D

Personally, I don't have pet theories that HAVE to be fullfilled to sell me on The Last Jedi. I do, however, have theories as to where I think character arcs and stories are heading based on analysis of The Force Awakens, but these are theories I would be happy to be proved wrong (as long as LFL's solutions are better than mine, which shouldn't be difficult ;) )

I agree. I am more inclined than not to think that Rey is her own character, unrelated to Skywalkers or any other Jedi-lines in any way. However, I will be adjust my assumption, if this is proved wrong in a compelling way. :)

IF my theory is wrong, I shall find a bed of appropriated height and crawl under it. Vowing to not come out until Disney fixes the problem.

No seriously. It doesn't matter to me. Obviously her parents have not been a big part of her life, so knowing who they are just provides that knowledge and only that. I just want an great, interesting movie, with well written characters that has me smiling when I leave and wanting to see more.

We all have theories about Rey's lineage, but ultimately, there will be one truth revealed. I will accept that truth, because ultimately my theory is just that, a theory...

    Can't care less.
I have my preference. But I trust them. As long as the story is compelling I don't really care.
But a couple of other things - about the real end game - could make me despise the movie and the ST.

I like Rey Nobody but I think she's a Kenobi. And in the end, it really doesn't matter who she turns out to be if it makes sense for the story. Unless she's a Skywalker. I loathe Rey Skywalker. I don't like the idea that this family might the only one capable of producing force prodigies. Yes, Anakin was the chosen one, but that shouldn't mean that the force has designated the Skywalkers as the "holy" family. What makes Rey's power so impressive is her humble origin. This character proves that the force can choose anyone, that there's no "elitist club" of force users in the galaxy. But if she turns out to be just another Skywalker....meh. I'll be looking forward to watching this one family wrecking and saving the galaxy again and again on their own like they're kings among peasants. About as interesting and touching as watching paint dry.
