What is the best star wars movie?

The best Star Wars movie is always the next to come !

 

I disagree that it takes too long. I think it took enough time to set the characters and the stakes. If there was too much more in the first two acts then I think it'd be too much war action and it wouldn't be able to build the stakes. Just my opinion though.

 

Easy one The Empire Strikes Back

 

WHAT? ROTS was something new. TFA was the JJ edition of ANH.

 

"New" doesn't make it better.

TFA has less in common with ANH than it's actually given credit for. But that's a different thread.

 

I guess we didn't watch the same movie then my friend. TFA totally made my beloved big 3 a bunch of losers. And don't get me started on Ms. Perfect.

 

No, we watched the same movie just have differing opinions.
Not sure what about them was "loser" status. I mean, they're 70 years old.

 

Han & Leia were bad parents. Leia failed to protect the NR. Luke failed to Make Ben a Knight. Han failed his marriage. Luke failed to save his other students.

They not only failed but failed in the biggest way possible. At least Yoda & Kenobi failed against the greatest Dark Sider of all time.

The big 3 failed against wannabe Sith.

 

of course Han was a bad parent. He's Han flippin Solo. what about his character profile says he would be a good dad?
Leia, we don't know about.

 

If that's all you got out of that movie, then you have absolutely no concept of what Star Wars is actually about. It's about finding balance. Anyone who has tried to find balance understands that it never lasts and it must be found again. This makes Star Wars so relatable to people.

Ms. Perfect? Rey is one of the best written female protagonists in a while. She's hardly perfect.

The lazy argument is that its a reboot/rehash. Thematically its much different and stands on its own, if on the surface it hits similar beats to make it feel familiar.

 

Yoda and Kenobi failed against Snoke?

I risk being name-called heretic here, but since I saw Rogue One I can't decide if I like it better than EMSB or not... and sometimes I catch myself believing that I do.


Not only is it a masterpiece in itself, it enhances and builds upon both the OT -and- ST (ex: expanding upon Bail Organa, giving the planet Mustafar a special and deeper significance) helping tie in the two sagas, which strengthens the series as a whole.

 

There's the OT and new canon films, all great movies IMO, and then there are the prequels, which left much to be desired. Empire will always be king.

 

This is a tough one. It'll change tomorrow, and next week, next month etc...

4 - The Force Awakens
5 - Revenge of the Sith
6 - Return of the Jedi
7 - The Phantom Menace
8 - Attack of the Clones

Positions 2 and 3 are as even as it gets for me, and 4, 5, 6 swap regularly

 

How can anyone put TFA over ROTJ!

Call me a Lucas lover but the best will always be 1-6.

Although GL did give some free advice on R1.

There is no "BEST" STAR WARS film. There is only one's favorite.

 

My understanding of the poll (which, admittedly seems to differ to everyone else's here) is that this is not an invitation to vote for one's favourite instalment (I'd have given a different film in that case).

Those films are Star Wars to me and when I talk of the "original films" it's those six movies to which I am referring.
