its very quiet around here as far as unofficial news and leaks.

I only joined December 2014 or January 2015, so I can't speak to the level of chatter then, but looking back at the last 12 months before ANH had lots of leaks of concept art or just info from sources regarding plot & casting.

Were everyone's sources in JJ's circle and thus not back for R1 & EpVIII?

Since the two directors don't subscribe to JJ's inane "mystery box" strategy, and thus put out more official news and let actors confirm their involvement, I wonder if the leakers in TFA don't feel like they need to leak, since they know information will flow out more regularly.

If this isn't the case, then where are all the sources people chirped about so mûch?

Do you mean TFA and not ANH ? There have actually been some pretty cool leaks for R1 . I just think that , in my opinion , there isn't as much interest in this movie because it's never been done before so there is nothing to expect both good and bad besides he excitement of having a SW movie a second movie in a year in a row .

It's possible the methods they tried out on TFA to keep secrets was refined and applied to R1.

I've also been surprised by the lack of R1 leaks. we've maybe seen more leaks regarding ep VIII than R1. I tend to agree with AstromechRecords that there may not be as much incentive to leak R1 info.

Depending on what kind of information you're after, I think it's great to not get leaks and plot information - especially this early. Going into TFA pretty much completely unaware of what to expect was such a rich experience and one I'd love to repeat for Ep. VIII and, to an extent, R1 (obviously we know the larger story of the film)

A few photos here and there of costumes and maybe certain characters, a teaser that gets us all talking again - that'll do for me! :)

i think that at this point, with less than a year until it comes out, we should have something in the way of a teaser. the only teaser i've seen was leaked; i think it's lame they haven't officially put that video out yet. it says to me that they're either worried this movie is going to suck or they have some crazy marketing plan that doesn't make any sense to non-industry folk (i.e. me).

With trailers not needing movie theaters to be seen, the studios have much more freedom with their marketing.

I think we need to reconsider the traditional time frames that govern trailer releases.

XMen Apocalypse and Cap America 3 released their first trailers with 6-7 months of release. We have yet to see any official video/teaser of Doctor Strange and that comes out in November.

Lucasfilm may be waiting to start up the PR machine until after Civil War comes out. The hype machine for TFA bluray will be starting next week, then continuing until just after the release, which is right when Disney and Marvel will really be promoting Civil War is released beginning of May.

Perhaps we'll get a teaser or full trailer release and possibly some good leaks before Memorial Day.

My guess is that this is the case. Disney isn't going to make the mistake of undermining Civil War's hype by throwing out a new Star Wars teaser or trailer a month before the film comes out. Waiting can be hard if you're a Star Wars fan but not a Captain America fan, but I think it will be worth it. It's also be possible that they are waiting for TFA's digital/Blu-Ray/DVD release. There's not a lot of public buzz about Star Wars at the moment and TFA is gone from most theaters so the buzz from a new Star Wars teaser/trailer would bolster the sales for that release.

Yeah. I said it was nuts that we knew so little about TFA months before it was released. I had no idea just how little we'd continue to know up until the movie wasreleased.
I'm really interested to see how they market R1 to separate it from the new trilogy. I know it sounds so pessimistic but the average movie goer is an idiot, if Disney doesn't market R1 properly the internets will be full of "great! more trailers without Luke Skywalker!"

I think they will use things like May4th, Celebration, and Force Friday like for TFA abut they will also utilize their theme parks as well as traditional marketing .

I could see them releasing the R1 teaser or full trailer the week before Memorial Day (US), since that is the week leading up to Xmen Apocalypse.

Disney has shown they want to operate like the NFL: be a year round presence. The NFL is in the news at least once a week all year long.

I'm a Marvel fan, so I can be just as excited for both, if a trailer was released now. :)

I reckon the hype goes like this TFA > End of Rebels Season 2 > Release of TFA on DVD > Rogue One teaser (May 4th?) > Rogue One full trailer at Celebration (July 16th.)

Then it's a heck of a long wait until December, with only Force Friday (30th Sept?) and Rebels season 3 (October?) to fill the gap.

I'm down with marvel as well, but I'm not so convinced with Oscar issacs. Do think he'll be able to pull off apocalypse? Seems to be a pretty tall order...

The whole entire Rogue One secretive thingy is just amazing. I mean, if you hit the search button on Google you get nothing but the logo and the same old picture.

    It's like it doesn't exist...

    simply amazing

That's why it makes me think almost as if whatever was "leaked" for TFA could have been a thing done on purpose ...

I admit I'm doubtful on having the trailer that early (July): remember, TFA trailer was released in October/November. More likely we might have teaser late Spring (around Civil War), and then have Force Friday with the toys, and only then the trailer. A bit boring, but well, it's Disney. I would really like to have an interactive marketing campaign for R1.
