I think it's cool that Alan Menken will be composing the live action Beauty and the Beast. I wonder whether he'll make reference to his work on the animated version or whether he'll write something entirely new.

Slight veer away from the original topic, but since you asked about opinions of the live action films, I'd like to give mine. :) The following comment shouldn't be taken as me saying that the live action films won't be well made, but I have to say... I do feel like Disney remaking their animated films (and Warner Bros making Tarzan and even a DIFFERENT Jungle Book) is indicative of the "unoriginality" problem prevalent all over Hollywood now. Everything is a sequel, a reboot, or a remake, with certain exceptions, and although I get that's what we pay to watch, I'd love to see more original films being made.

I don't think it is necessary for Disney to do it (I mean, the animated version was nominated for Best Picture, the first animated film to do so and it remains my favorite version of the story*), but I am excited to see it. The sets that we see in the trailer are gorgeous and Emma Watson is an excellent choice to play Belle.

*La Belle et la BĂȘte (1946) is a close second and I highly recommend it.

And this is the big problem with automatic language censors.

As a movie fan, and in my opinion many original films are being made year after year but they don't get as much attention as sequels, remakes and reboots. For example Concussion.
Another one of my opinions is that the reason Disney is making live action remakes is so that they can retell the story for a new audience.
Retelling of a story can sometimes end up as a disappointment for example The Legend of Tarzan.
I agree with you on that they will be well made, but I say they need to be careful in what they do but from what I've seen with Beauty and the Beast they have it in hand.

Also, Hollywood has never been particularly creative. I mean, several classics were in fact remakes. For instance, the horror classic House of Wax (1953) was a remake of an earlier film called Mystery of the Wax Museum. Another example is the fact that there are seven films called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde between 1908 and 1941.

I understand why they do it is because as it is a known property people are more likely to go and see the films. At least we get sequels and such so we can see our favourite characters in different forms, sometimes it turns out badly E.g. Spider-Man

    OMG hard to choose.

I guess it depends which time of my life. But the classic favourites are Cinderella, The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Toy Story II and Frozen.

If live-action are to be included, my first favourite was Mary Poppins. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!

I remember watching all of those except Frozen. I've forgotten that there were so many Disney films.
It would probably take a few days to watch all of them as part of marathon.

Definitely an uncommon choice :p. Here, let me help you feel better :):

The most consistently enjoyable films for me are the Toy Stories, The Monsters, Up, The Incredibles, WALL-E, The Findings. Zootopia is my recently released favourite, closely followed by Big Hero 6. I thought The Lion King and Aladdin were pretty cool when I was younger. Don't really like them now. Yes, I know I'm cheating :p.

This is hard but I'll say a toss up between these two.

I really enjoy Pixar films like Up. But Disney films: The Emperor's New Groove, The Lion King, and The Hunchback of Norte Dame.

Mandatory question: what do you think of the live-action versions of 101 Dalmatians and Sleeping Beauty (in this case, Maleficent)?

what do you think i thought ~ hahaha

i actually thought Glenn Close was a good choice for 101 Dalmatians, but didn't love the movie overall.
absolutely hated Maleficent with the single exception of them subverting the love story trope at the end.
i mean, i guess i liked the premise, but it felt pushy and overwrought. and i didn't like the effects either. eh.
