    Completely missed the point spectacularly.

    - If Rian had kept the rebellion storyline then I am sure my question would have been answered, but since it wasn't it is still unfounded.
We get nothing from Finn's side besides 'the first order is very bad'.

    - No kidding? I am referring to him as a species and as a force user, if that at all.

    - Much like Snoke we don't know what she is or her motives. The comicbook at least expanded her survival and combat knowledge while the movies did nothing.

    - I just asked. And if you're referring to the inverse reaction then yes, it is a loose end. You don't just annihilate a system in fire and then carry on like it didn't happen. There was a literally removal of a governing structure. That shouldn't be a cue to play poker and slots.

What does it matter what species he is? We still don't know what Yoda actually is.

You should read the novel "Phasma" then.

I agree we need to understand where Snoke came from. And I think within this explanation, the "threat" of IX can be revealed. This will be on my epitaph, but Plagueis is the key to this. Not only could he be the "bigger fish" that explains how a seemingly fatally injured Snoke could have risen to power and taken over the remnants of the Empire, but he will also tie all the trilogies together.

There was a load of stuff in the new novels about the Acolytes of the Beyond seeking to resurrect Vader...and then we have the KoR, led by a Vader Fanboy. It strikes me that the "cheating death" theme can have a big role to play in the saga.

And an interesting idea I have recently thought of is this:

Up until now, Ren has been keen to emulate Vader - but he has actually gone beyond his feats and taken over the galaxy. He was also quite strong on all that "let the past die", stuff. Everyone that Ren cares about is dead and he has no interest in bringing them back. But what about Rey and what will be the thing that provides the threat of her turn? I would say the possibility of Finn dying. It would be the perfect way of revealing Plagueis: offering to save Rey's friend if she would join him. Meanwhile, Ren is losing the support of his fellow KoR because of his desire to destroy the past. Could it be that Rey is the one to embrace the Dark Side and rule the galaxy and only a redeemed Kylo can prevent this? And above it all, is Plagueis, puppeteering events to ensure the galactic conflict continues?

The above is messily written and not fully thought out - but I feel within it is a means to make sense out of a lot of stuff, provide a good threat going forward (in regards to villainy and Rey's journey) and tie everything together in a neat little bow...

    • Why did Kylo seem like he knew of a girl who could use the force in TFA and in the novel the end fight scene again made it seem like he knew her from the past?
    • KNIGHTS OF REN?!
    • Why did Rey hear Obi-Wans voice when she touched Anakin/Lukes lightsaber and what is her connection to that weapon?
    • What is Snoke's backstory? Who taught him to use the force? Is he connected to the Sith?
    • What happened to Ray Slone?

2 pages in and I have learned I have a very different definition of "loose end" than most people

That was just your interpretation. He asked "What girl?" not because he knew her before. He just wanted to know who this person is. Then in the forest Kylo remembers Snoke's words "There has been an awakening." It was Rey. => Ren: "It is you."

If you want to speculate you could think of Ren seeing Rey in his dreams, like Rey did with Kylo.

Why did she hear Yoda, Luke or even Palpatine? -- She has no connection to the sword.

Snoke is not a Sith. He's just a plot device. We don't need to learn more.

    She's probably dead.

The scene in TFA was still odd to me.

I want a better reason for why that Kyber crystal bonded with her. Rey has become very powerful very quickly, something that I think needs a better explanation than "powerful light, powerful dark" or "Darkness rises and light to meet it". I feel like there has to be something special about Rey that we don't know.

I know Snoke is not a Sith but he was trained in the dark side and is using sith techniques. I would agree we don't need to learn more about him if this wasn't the last movie in the Skywalker saga. Questions from the OT were answered in the PT and now this is the last trilogy in the saga. I don't think you can have loose ends now that a precedent has been set of the movies eventually answering those questions, even if it is years later when they are answered.

Ray Sloan might be dead but I am still curious. Even if it was something simple like statues of all the Supreme Leaders and she was one of them. It would be a nice tie-in or easter egg.

The something special is just she is strong with the force.

So sometime during the movie you find out he was a Dark Force user out in the unexplored regions. What does that do for you and more importantly the story? Leave backstory to another medium and allow it to be built out deeply, rather then be throw away. He served his purpose.

Or leave Ray Sloan to another story. Leave her for TV, books or some other medium. Again dont establish a back story unless it is really important.

Just because something isn't explicitly stated on film does not mean it's a loose end or "plot hole". What makes stories like Star Wars great is the amount of interpretation and imagination still left up to the viewer.

And answering all these loose ends would signify no more Star Wars. We know we are getting more Star Wars.
We don't know what species Yoda is. We don't need to know what Snoke is.
We didn't know a thing about the Emperor for 20 years. I think we will survive not knowing about Snoke for a bit.

Things related to the central plot that are unresolved are loose ends. Rey and Kylo's bond is a loose end.
Finn and Poe's next steps are loose ends.

The Knights of Ren are not a loose end. They were a throw away line of dialogue and never mentioned again. They're the "no disintegrations" of this trilogy right now IMO

This is the only thing I disagree with. Knights of Ren have been mentioned in both TFA and TLJ. Apparently shown in TFA and hint that they are other apprentices that left with Kylo. This makes them an easy choice to be Kylo guards and easy explanation of what they were doing in TLJ. They were on other First Order ships handling other parts of the Republic that were fighting back.

Ray Sloan is just a fun easter egg thing I would like. No big deal if they do it or don't.

As far as Rey I want there to be something more than just, she is strong. I love that her lineage does not seem to be what makes her special I just want more, maybe she is a new chosen one or something

With Snoke I want him to feel like more than just a plot device. I don't know what the solution is to making him seem more important but also not making us feel cheated that he died in TLJ but I just want some more info about where he came from and how he seduced Ben Solo to the Dark Side.

Aside from obvious stuff like the end of the war and Kylo's fate, this is what comes to my mind right now:

    - Knights of Ren - I need to know what they're all about and see them do stuff.
    - I kinda wish it was explicitly stated why Rey is so powerful. I'd welcome a clear confirmation that she is a chosen one (I mean a general trope, not the Star Wars prophecy), an emissary of the light side pushed by the Force to face Kylo. Because that's what she is, that's what TFA and TLJ tell us between the lines, no question about it. She's not an "Everyman." So it's something I feel I already know, but I'd like it to be clearer. Could come up in a dialogue with Force ghost Luke.
    - A tiny bit of exposition about Snoke would be nice, but at this point I wouldn't mind it if there was none.
    - A hint as to what the future of Jedi is going to be. Could be vague, but I want to know what direction Rey is going to take.

For me, I think one of the things I got from TLJ was that the force doesn't just belong to the Jedi or the Sith. Just because someone uses the light sides doesn't mean they have to be a Jedi and the same for the Darkside/Sith. For me, Snoke was just using the force for a malicious, selfish nature, i.e the darkside. Not necessarily a loose end. I would love to know more about Mr. Snoke but i think/hope that will come as extra content through novels, not in the trilogy.

I would agree. For me, I think a lot of it would be labeled as a curiosity opposed to a loose end. A loose end would be answering the given questions "where is Luke" and "who is Rey" which the first was answered and the latter could be considered answered although I feel we will get more. Other more minute stuff is from personal curiosity of wanting to know more about something that appeals the viewer.

I'm been waiting to see the KOR since they appeared in the TFA trailer. And I'm still waiting. They better be all that they're cracked up to be.

Who knows. If they at LFL had followed a plan of some kind, then maybe we wouldn't be where we are now.

    Agreed.
A loose end is: What do Kylo's actions mean as far as his ability to be redeemed go?
A curiosity is: What type of alien is Snoke?

Knowing what Snoke's species is won't help or progress the story or even offer any closure. Not knowing his species is not a loose end. It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever to the story. So if Ep9 tells us he's a Donkerdorian, then what? It's meaningless (personally I think he's human, albeit ravaged somewhat by the dark side).

Phasma is not important. We don't need to know what motivates her to be the commander of the stormtroopers of the First Order. She's an ancillary character, less significant than Tarkin in ANH. We never know his motives either. So ANH makes no sense? Because we don't know what motivates him to be in charge of the Death Star? Why did he even join the Empire? We don't know and it doesn't matter.

But beyond any background characterisation you think she should have, from TFA onwards her motivation is revenge - she holds a grudge against Finn for being a traitor and for throwing her into the garbage. But that's already in the films so it's not a loose end.

To be clear loose ends are a good thing. When you have a movie that is meant to be the conclusion there should be so called loose ends going into it. Those are the plot points that need to be closed by the end of the movie. What I see in this thread is that contrary to some peoples thoughts EP9 doesnt have a bunch of loose ends that need to be tied off. It has the major story to complete of Resistance vs First Order and the personal stories to finish, but not a bunch of things opened that likeley will never be closed.
