I heard this question on a podcast and really liked it.

We saw in TFA that BB-8 has a taser, ropes, the lighter, the usual droid gadgets (assists X-Wing pilot, hooks, a little drawer, etc.). He can descend down the stairs (and presumably go up).

A podcast host proposed martini shaker. I am partial to margaritas. :D

What new features would you like to see BB-8 reveal in Episode VIII? Let's hear some serious and not so serious ideas.

Who would have thought, BB in BB-8 means bartender ball. Lol

Maybe not to cool but definitely handy if BB8 could be used as a laundry system with a built in washer and dryer. Lol. Load it up and let em roll around a while and voila. Fresh clean laundry to kick but in.

He needs another offensive weapon, more than the taser... hmm... thermal detonator mines or mini proton rockets ;)

In VII he was originally supposed to have spikes that would protrude out of him like a Pufferfish. So on the offensive he could just bring out the spikes and roll around and destroy stuff. Plus nobody could pick him up or kick him

You know, what I really would like to see BB-8 do is something starship related that makes you see the difference in wanting to have a BB unit rather than an R2. As of yet, I have not seen any feature on BB-8 that I would prefer him instead of a regular astromech droid like R2-D2 or R5-D4. What can BB-8 do if a ship was damaged? Can he do the same functions as R2? He doesn't look like he can have all the gadgets that a regular astromech can carry so does he have advanced navigational capabilities or something that makes him a better choice for a ship? What indeed can a BB unit have that would make someone buy it over a R4 unit? I loved the galaxy mad that he had in the movie as I thought that this would be a unique feature of BB-8 but then we saw R2 just do the same at the end of TFA so that threw that thought out the window. So I guess that's what I want to see in BB-8. Some advanced programs or ship related abilities that could be unique for that type of droid but that for some reason R2 units can't have them.

I actually hope that BB-8 does not have much more features than the ones that we have seen in TFA. He already has a welding torch, ropes with hooks, a small compartment, a hologram projector, and a taser. Maybe a spinning saw blade.

When I saw that R2D2 could fly in Attack of the Clones, I was so annoyed. This was something he had never done in a movie before. Why had he not flown in the original trilogy? New features can make choices in previous movies look illogical.

I want my heroes (which includes the droids) to show ingenuity and overcome their limitations. I do not want the writers to come up with a new feature each time BB-8 encounters a challenging situation. I want BB-8 to use the features that we know that he has to solve the problem.

i'd like to see him take control of poe's x-wing and do some cool things in space! we definitely need a legitimate space battle in 8 (i mean, i want one) or.. if/when poe and finn are on a mission, i'd like to see a sequence where BB-8 is tasked with spying on a member of the first order and see him going on a little mission of sorts? idk.. but yeah, BB-8 could literally go on a murderous rampage and people would still love him. they knocked BB-8 out of the park in TFA.

John Ralphio also does it so I guess they're also what I'd want to see more of in VIII .

It's true that it would really suck if every time we saw BB-8 he would have some sort of new contraption but don't you think that at least for the story's sake they should give us a good reason on why someone would prefer a BB unit over a regular astromech? I mean, BB-8 is not something like a past R5 unit but he's a brand new model that is new to the SW galaxy. Doesn't that mean that he should at least have some sort of improvement over regular astromechs? What logic is there for someone to want a new advanced robot that has 500 gigas of memory and has 10 tools inside (just an example) when even the old out of date models have 1500 gigas and 40 tools inside?

It's true that I don't want over the top characters but we are talking about new machines here and not just some droid that someone put together from scrap. BB-8 should at least give us a reason on why we would want to change one type of droid for the other cause it's REALLY going to suck if there is no logical explanation other than that he looks cute and they just wanted to make something new for the fun of it.

Since R2-D2 is a garbage can for Luke it only seems legit that Luke's daughter gets one too. A toilet feature!
