    There won't be any time travel in Star Wars. You know, I love the concept and you can do pretty cool things with it in a story, but it destroys everything else, the history and continuity becomes changable, thus not so important. Introducing time travel to Star Wars would destroy the saga. Though the changes of continuity are a great material for fanfiction like "What if Anakin didn't join Sidious" and so on..

    Some time ago I stumbled upon an article about Looper, the article was about Johnson not being afraid to peer into the darkest corners of human potential and about the balance between villain and hero swinging back and forth throughout... That sounds exactly like something I would like to see in Episode VIII.

    Yeah, I thought you probably were :D And offered my thoughts anyway, because I've seen more people actually afraid that there would be timetravel in EpVIII just because Johnson made Looper, which doesn't make much sense.. Abrams created the Star Trek movie, yet there's no Enterprise in TFA :D

    But the reason maybe that Johnson haven't made so many movies.. I am not sure where people are getting the good faith in him from..

    Rian Johnson seems to be a very able writer and director - in particular he's good at intelligent themes and drama. I think that he will bring a darker tone and a more complex middle chapter. In this way VIII will be a loose mirror of Empire Strikes Back at least in terms of emotion and themes.

    The two taglines from Looper have resonance in the Star Wars universe, particularly as of The Force Awakens:

    Hunted by your future. Haunted by your past.

    Face your future. Fight your past.

    source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1276104/taglines

    I do agree with others who are averse to time travel in Star Wars.

    Flashbacks are suitable enough, cinematically, to reference past events, while the uncertainty of the future, among Jedi and non-Jedi, is one of the great things about Star Wars, I think.

    The last things we need in Star Wars, I think, are alternate timelines (as in the rebooted Star Trek).

    While I've not seen any of his movies, I'm hopeful, since Rian was selected over other potential directors, that he was chosen because he could have other ideas which would be worthy of the Star Wars universe. Time will tell.

    I take much comfort in the fact that Star Wars easily lends itself to extended imagination and almost writes its own material, thanks to its inspired creator.

    As C-3PO would say, "Thank the maker!"

    If Episode 8 mirrors 'Empire Strikes Back' like 'The Force Awakens' mirrored 'A New Hope", then Star Wars doesn't really have a future.

    They need to give us Something new with episode 8, personally the two things i'd like to see are:
    Explanations in the origins of the force.
    See Finn lead a rebellion of storm troopers

    I look forward to learning more about Snoke and Maz. Maybe they'll have backstories that we won't see coming.

    i meant more Orgins of the jedi/Sith orders how the battle between the dark side and the light started..... rather then the mechanics of how the force actually works.

    It would be cool to see a new script :p .

    I think an "origins" movie should be saved for a spin off

    I don't think we will see the mechanics of the force again .

    As Del Toro said some time ago, Rian Johnson will bring more "realism" to the saga. I think this could mean a few things:
    1- we are going to see something much more "dirt" and "physical";
    2- we are going to see a deeper characters' psychology;
    3- we are going to see more realism in terms of politics.

    For number 1: I think this new trilogy will recall the original one in the entire narrative arc. Wait, I don't mean that Ep.8 will be a reash of 5, and 9 a reash of 6. The original trilogy moved backward: it started when the Empire was already "the Empire", and Luke was already Vader's son, even if he didn't know. In the sequel trilogy, everything just happened, so we can only look at the past and reconstruct the story. In terms of visual narration is something great: we could see a lot of things SW never showed, like a monumental tomb: Darth Vader's monumental tomb, where Kylo stole the burned mask. Also, it would be great to see the ancient Luke's academy, and this leas us to....

    number 2: in Ep.8 we're going to see a major duel between Kylo and Luke. Uncle and nephew. And it probably will take place in the ruins of Luke's academy. The psychological realism Johnson could bring to the saga could be related to how those characters will face themselves: Luke has been obviously shocked by Kylo's betrayal, and obviously he will be forced to fight against him. Maybe Rey will play a central role in this fight. Maybe Luke could return because of something that could be related to Rey: another kidnapping? I don't think so. Maybe Rey will pass to the dark side, or something else, I don't know. But I'm sure that the main characters in this movie will be Rey-Luke-Kylo. However, I'm looking forward for a mind twisted Kylo, blinded by the hate against Rey and the scar she leaved on his face. We will see a greater Adam Driver, and a more terrifying Kylo Ren.

    Last but note least, number 3: with politics I mean that some TFA minor character will probably play a much larger role. Hux is indeed a potential explosive villain, and I think that, in the second half of the movie, he will turn against Snoke and start a civil war inside the First Order. So the factions, in Ep.9, will be 3: the Republic/Resistance; the First Order, and Knights of Ren. And I think the Knights of Ren are not just the seven knights we saw in the flashback in TFA. To me, there will be an entire army, led by the Knights of Ren (and by their master Kylo), surrounding the dying figure of Snoke. An important element of Ep.8 will be the real location of Snoke. We know he hide himself in a non-permanent place: maybe a ship, defended by a fleet. Maybe a space station. Something very distant, in terms of aesthetics, from everything we saw so far in a SW movie. I'm expecting something looking ancient, very ravaged. Not a simple star destroyer, but a brand new type of ship.

    You know I've heard that he may do something with time travel and to me that would make sense since Rian Johnson is more "In-depth director". I mean I like J.J. but Rian Johnson just goes so much deeper when it comes to his films. Yeah but I'm really excited to see what he'll do with episode 8 and hope it's really different (In a good way).

    I hope that Rian delves deeper into the lore and history of the Jedi. I was definitely intrigued by the mention of Luke searching for the first Jedi temple in VII. I hope we get to learn a little bit about how the Jedi order was established. I'd love a scene with Luke giving Rey a tour of the ruins of the Jedi temple on Ahch-To while he tells her about the history of the Jedi knights.

    So now that we got the look and feel of Star Wars back Rian can move forward with expanding the Universe rather than being confined.

    This is one of the things I most look forward to. This film already looks to be a vast departure vs The Force Awakens. However, the main guy is back for this one so we can relate a little bit to the old school as well (speaking about Luke Skywalker)

    This makes a huge difference. One that fans of the OT can relate to.

    The idea of Rian taking classic film tropes and applying them to Star Wars in new ways excites me. I can't get the idea of him doing a Ronin-style car chase through a European city but with speeders (and space horses?!) out of my head.
