What past OT or PT character would you like in Episode IX?

The last time I checked, the ST was supposed be about new characters and their stories

 

i picked a few:

• Anakin becuase i think you could do some interesting stuff between him and Kylo/Ben, and it would nice to see Hayden brought back after all the abuse he got.
• Lando, i don't want a big role for him, but if this film contains a funeral for Leia i'd like to see him show up
• Obi Wan, just becuase i loved Ewan Mcgregor's performance and want to see him back in some way whether thats in the possibly stand alone film or in episode 9.

I'd welcome some Anakin and Kylo Ren interaction to be perfectly honest. Doubt it will happen though but the TFA did suggest, to me at least, that some form of communication, however subtle/insignificant, has already occurred between them.

 

The only character I might have wanted was Yoda but since he appeared in TLJ I don't really have any other expectations or wishes.

 

Anakin Skywalker. That is all.

 

I reckon we'll follow Luke in the afterlife, and there he'll encounter Anakin, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and convince them to assist him somehow. They can make some mumbo jumbo up (what's new!) but basically the Ghost of the Force need to help Rey bring balance to the Force once and for all, or something.

Alternatively they could have Kylo go on a Force-fueled acid trip throughout the Skywalker lineage. That way we can get scenes throughout the Saga, and key actors returning. "Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Samuel L Jackson, Ian McDiarmid, Frank Oz, Pernilla August and Liam Neeson return to Star Wars!" is the type of press coverage that would sell the film as THE BIG FINALE TO THE STAR WARS SAGA, even if it's just part of a flashback scene.

 

with kylo even now opinions differ on whether he is still conflicted whether he can still turn to the light.

I personly don’t want another full film of a conflicted Ben Solo. So for me the way of use him would be have him appear to Kylo/Ben probably in the first act of the movie, And have an encounter between the two, that is used to demonstrate Kylo has fully finished the process of moving past Vader that started with him smashing his helmet and continued with snoke suggesting he could have been another Vader which he seems to reject by doing what Vader didn’t do and taking the throne for himself. having him then have a confrontation with his once hero would be a way to really finish of the point that still is in doubt god whether he can turn good or not.

Plus also we’ve been lead to believe that this film, before Carrie Fishers sad passing was meant to contain an emotional showdown between herself and her son, this isn’t really possible now but you could use Anakin in a similar sort of way.

I’m not saying the film needs this or it would be terrible it’s just away they could go which might be interesting.

 

Then why even involve the classic characters? The writers themselves said they didn’t include Luke in a big way in TFA because they were afraid he would dominate every scene he was in with the new characters. Makes sense. Why include the characters that people actually want to see?

Can you tell me with a straight face that a Star Wars film that doesn’t include Han Solo and Luke Skywalker will be a better film because of their absence? Does anyone care about future SW films that center on Poe, Rose and Finn? The reason why TFA was such a major hit was because of the return of the classic characters played by the original actors. Without them I guarantee you that SW will see a box office erosion that has already started with The Last Jedi and will continue going forward.

Completely see what you are saying. My biggest (and very personal) problem is that I find the new leads wholly uncharismatic, and that is all the more evident when onscreen with one of the Big 3 - with the exception of Kylo Ren who I find to be an extremely magnetic presence, thanks to Adam Driver's skilful acting.

 

i find this surprising, i mean im some one who didn't like the Last Jedi but it would never occur to me to describe the cast as uncharismatic. For me John Boyega oozes charisma, While i don't think Oscar Issac has Boyega's natural charisma he is still very watchable and brings charm to the role as Poe. I guess i could sort of see your point with Daisy Ridley, for me she starts of both films been a little bit wooden, but her performance drastically improves as both movies go on and by the end she's great.( i wouldn't want this to come across as a slight on Daisy she is in no way a seasoned actor she is of course gonna have a few wobbles).

The only actor i really have an issue with is Adam Driver, the paddies the teenaged angst for me are a little over done(especially for a 30 year old) but in fairness i would probably put that down to writing and direction rather then Adam driver.

Not criticising your opinion thou, its just one that honestly has never crossed my mind

 

Ha ha! That is funny. What can I say? Maybe it's the script, maybe it is just the story choices made for them preventing them from shining or maybe I just find them plain old dull, not 100% sure. To be fair, Oscar Isaac is pretty watchable too but Daisy Ridley and John Boyega just don't grab me. Well, not in TLJ anyway.

 

fair enough, it would be incredibly boring if we all thought the same.

 

Those tiny creatures from the original film with the light bulb eyes and the monk habit who went around capturing droids. They were so cute and funny, with their constant little shouting. Such simplicity. Those were the days...

The problem isn’t the actors, I actually think they are all charismatic, the issue is that it’s that they aren’t really given much to do. Poe was written as little more than a cliche. Kind of an insert Han Solo like character here. The Finn character is also given next to nothing to do and Rey is a veritable superwomen who doesn’t have to overcome anything as she has the answers to every question the universe has to ask...I find the character of Rose to be rather annoying
