What scenes would you change and how?

THIS! Have Vader storm onto the bridge of Admiral Raddus' ship just to hear the communications officer 'accidentally' say "Tantive IV, did you receive?"

As a matter of fact I was rather relieved during my second viewing, because the final scene with what appeared to be Leia's ship (without doubt) featured no background activity (!) and no other ships or fighters in the frame, suggesting (last minute correction?) that Leia's ship could have been outside the battle zone (but within a "restricted system", nevertheless), standing by to receive another transmission from the Blockade Runner Vader saw leaving.

Once we have screencaps, I'll plaster the internet with this one shot and the annotation "Princess Leia's Blockade Runner near Scarif, just having received the transmission of the Death Star plans".

i totally agree with you : no aliens in the rebel group, this is a pure shame. I would have loved that guy in the cast. And a bothan.

 

I agree with 1 and 2.
3) The book made it more clear that Saw didn't want to slow anyone down. He was limping with a cane, oxygen mask and fake leg. I too hated that he seemed to be an active rebel one day, and then just lost the will to live shortly thereafter.

4) This was how the movie originally played out. Well, I don't know for sure when Saw joins back up, but the trailers and BTS stuff had his aliens on scariff.

5) Yeah. If they had to be in the movie, why not have them with Liea at the end or with Bail?

7) They said they cut this because it seemed like a repeated beat to the one where Baze faces off with the AT-ACT, only to be saved by an x-wing.

Saw's crew was originally on the battle of scarif. I think Saw didnt test well, so they killed him off weirdly and cut his later subplots out of the film. I mean, dude was a second dad to Jyn, having raised her for just as long as her real dad. I'd have liked to seen the struggle between her, her real father, her adoptive father, and her time as loner.

I would have saved Saw and havehim perish with the rest of the gang on Scarif.

 

I still have a hard time complaining about anything in this movie, really.

 

For me it's definitely a lot harder to find things to complain about than with the last 4 (arguably 5) SW movies that came before it.

 

Cassian's Basic was a little hard for me to understand! Also some of the original cut scenes seem better, like on the.

 

Some of my changes:

- The Bor Gullet scene was probably the weakest scene in the movie for me. I would have removed that completely and have Saw interrogate him instead. In the movie, we are TOLD he is an extremist in his ways, but we don't really SEE it. Him interrogating & torturing Bodhi in brutal ways could have showed that. Afterwards, we could have seen Bodhi recovering in the prison cell, distressed and could have had little flashback (similar to Coruscant scene) of Bodhi's conversation with Galen.

- Another scene I would have added with Saw is him training young Jyn or the moment she abandons her just to add that little extra sense of history and dynamic between those two characters. This could have been added to the prologue at the start as soon as he rescues her from the cave before it cuts to older Jyn in the prison cell on Wobani or could have been added to the Coruscant flashback scene.

- I would of liked an extra 5-10 mins in the 2nd act of comrade/rapport with them as a GROUP, as the 1st act is obviously the set-up/getting band together like Dirty Dozen & then in 3rd act they are all mainly all separated, so couple more scenes them interacting with each other on U-Wing or something in 2nd act could have benefitted & learn more about each one. For example with don't see Baze interact with K2SO etc Could have been Guardians of the Galaxy style bonding scenes but with obviously less humour.

- I would have preferred C3PO & R2D2 to have showed up on the Tantive IV at the end rather than Yavin.

- Still miss opening crawl. The crawl could have recapped Catalyst novel if it was featured.

 

Have a scene where Galen gets up and travels to Earth to go to Kamar-Taj.

 

The only scene I'd change is the Saw death scene on Jedha. It was a bit too cheesey, and doesn't make much sense.

It was basically "Yeah I guess I could make it to a ship with you guys.. but... nah I think I'll just die now."

 

To be honest, the only thing I would change would be the Rogue One font and music in that title card scene. While I have gotten used to it, the first viewing was a splash of cold water in the face when the title card came up. They probably should have simply used the traditional Star Wars font and played some slightly altered variant of the Star Wars theme.

This movie is crazy good when my biggest complaint is a friggin' font.

I remain convinced the lack of a crawl was a fine decision. The movie is based on a crawl...so having a crawl for a movie based on a crawl creates a kind of hall-of-mirrors effect that seems redundant.

 

I have no problem with the physical disk instead of the beamed up version. Sure, it might be a bit contradictory, but its much more interessting than Leia watching a computer screen imo.

I'd change however:
-The Bor Gullett scene. It was set up and then lead into nowhere...
-The editing is a bit too flashy too me, both momentary and structural. The first half is a slow setup (not that I have any problem with that) yet the editing made it feel rushed. We have these marvelous sets and alien designs and barely get any time to delight in the wonder, thus I think the new planets left little impact, except Scariff ofc.
-Too many grenades. Almost all of the main cast died in dramatic explosions. It ruins the atmosphere to me a bit.

 

I want my crawl back! Ok so when we get to the Solo movie. So your telling me THAT HAN SOLO is not good enough for a crawl????????

Crawl and re-work Galen's death to give another moment for Felicity Jones and Mads to shine before his death. Maybe make it a completely failed rescue or something, but I guess they needed to have that Cassian-Jyn conversation that they're both amazing in. But his death drags on a bit for me.

 

Rogue One is, in my opinion, a near-perfect Star Wars film. While I have a few nit-picky suggestions here and there, there is only ONE scene I wish they would have changed:
That scene when Jyn confronts Krennic.
I disliked how Cassian seemingly recovered from his fall and got up to the tower just in time to shoot Krennic. Please, let Jyn do the deed. Krennic had her mom killed. Krennic was going to kill her father. Krennic was responsible for so much misfortune in her life. Having Jyn pull the trigger would have provided so much closure, plus it would have made her that much more of a self-reliant, no-nonsense female hero, something we desperately need more in films.

 

-I would have liked it if General Dodonna had more than one line, he is one of the Alliance leaders he should speak more.
-It would have been cool if they did the same thing that was done with Gold and Red Leader but for Porkins, Wedge and all the other Battle of Yavin pilots (except for Biggs)
-Maybe something with a Captain Ackbar, implying Raddus' death or capture led to his promotion to admiral
-More Pao and Bistan and add more aliens in the group of soldiers
-would have been cool if we saw Yularen in the Tarkin scenes
-It would be a Rebels spoiler but seeing Sato in his command ship would have been an awesome reference

 

I agree the Bor Gullet scene was the weakest scene in the movie, the CGI just didn't work for me either.

I would have changed Saw Gerrera's Jedha death around a bit, I would make him a survivor of a Darth Vader attack in the past (without giving too much away), with Jyn arriving and speaking with him , the true terror of this ordeal could explain the psychological issues, broken body and someone who is ready to give up. Personally for me, it would have enhanced seeing Vader later on... - continuing the evil mythos of the character.

 

Y does everybody hates the BG scene? It was quick. I do admit his CGI enhanced body was bad though.
