Anyone else here watch Ted Lasso?

…and if yes, what in the Rings of Kafrene was going on with last night’s completely incongruous episode*?

Finished Brooklyn Nine-Nine's series finale. It hurt, but the show (and the characters) tried to make the goodbye as sweet as possible. There are great callbacks to jokes and surprise character reveals, nice homages, and making of certain moments canon. The final moments reveal that what is dead may never die, however, and the adventure continues on. I'm sad to see the show go, but it ended exactly how it should have.

    upload_2021-9-18_16-4-5.jpeg

Power Rangers Dino Fury is back, and there's the reveal that Izzy aka the Green Ranger is gay!

I'm not sure I'm surprised, but the confirmation was nice to know about. Of the latest season, Izzy is the most controversial of the new cast - I find her to be one of the best actors on the show (which isn't saying much) and the one to have all of the fun lines, but others find her annoying and overbearing. I'm afraid that this reveal will fracture things even further. (It's seeming to have the reverse effect as of now, but I'll be watching to see how it plays out.) Power Rangers has skirted around open LGBTQ+ characters before, with certain Rangers just being "really good friends" or only confirmed to have crushes on same-sex characters by the actors who played it that way, so for PR fans in the LGBTQ+ community - or fans of more LGBTQ+ representation in general, especially on kids' shows - this is a BIG DEAL.*

The arc itself isn't terribly done, with Izzy and her GF going from enemies to awkward crushes to dating, but it also isn't the best arc in the show. And that's fine too, since romance isn't a key feature of Izzy's character or the show's season itself (when compared to more famous romance arcs like in the original show, Timeforce, Beast Morphers, or RPM). The episodes themselves are a bit of the bait-and-switch format with the love, and that was the right choice for the footage had and the show's needs.

Granted, I wouldn't be expecting any kisses onscreen anytime soon. Even official heterosexual couples don't kiss onscreen, so hand-holding (which is what apparently happened) and interrupted dates are probably the best fans will get.

Anyways, the episodes themselves are pretty good! The two new episodes are focused on Izzy's life, including her fitness and romance. (And how Javi, despite wanting the best for his step-sister, probably needs to assume less and observe more.) The morals are pretty modern, such as the knowing the difference between encouragement for the sake of the encouraged one, and flattery for the sake of selfishness. (And a nice "what the shell?" joke against a clam enemy and Saito crossdressing.) We also got some nice plot reveals too.

*The 2017 movie's Trini was still discovering her sexuality, and her arc was about opening up to the other Rangers. She only responds about relationship troubles when asked if they were "girl troubles," and comments that she doesn't like labels and she her parents are far more traditional than she is.
In the Boom! Studios run, there is a new-to-the-comics character who has a girlfriend, and while they are close enough that fans can pick up on it, only after the arc did the writer confirm the two were girlfriends. So Izzy isn't the first on-camera/screen character to have same sex romantic interests, but she's the first to openly have one on-screen.

Was it any good? I hear it's supposed to be quite decent, and very weird, for its type of show?

Very good, very weird, dark, twisted and surprisingly funny. Its got a bit of everything. The cast is Brilliant, especially Rosa Salazar in the lead role who is one of my favourite actors at the moment. I strongly recommend it, if you're anything like me you'll really like it.

During breaks in work I watch Star Wars Visions. So far, I really like it.

I am also catching up on the last two seasons of Lucifer.

Sounds right up my alley :D Someone somewhere called it True Detective meets Twin Peaks, or some such, and that sounds rather swell!

A great horror show that all who’re interested in such things should see. Strong story with some interesting visuals, and several outstanding performances! Just don’t read anything about it before you begin; watch Midnight Mass cold :)

    Enjoy!

Netflix has been killing it lately. Midnight Mass was phenomenal, and I'd be so bold to say that Squid Game is even better.

Just finished What If this morning, and it was pretty neat!

Also really enjoying this season of What We Do in the Shadows this fall. Probably the funniest show on TV right now, which is impressive given its seemingly niche hook.

I need to get to this show... several friends have been raving about it too, but I've not had a chance to see anything but the trailer yet.

Annoyingly, there's no UK air date confirmed yet as I really like this show too. I've been a fan of Berry's for ages (The IT Crowd, Toast of London, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Moon) and Novak used to front a hilarious prank caller show called Fonejacker on TV here - you'd probably find it on the 'Tube if you're interested.

    Oh yeah, I loved Fonejacker!

He's great in WWDitS. If one were to use a VPN, they could probably get access to it...

My sister in law got me hooked on Squid Game when I went to visit, as I don't have Netflix. It was so awesome, I watched it twice.
Another good Korean show was DP. In korea you're required to serve in the military, however there's a desertion problem, so these guys track down AWOLs. It reminded me of like a korean miami vice. It was cool.

    Foundation.

Still reserving my judgement - I loved the first episode, was extremely disappointed with the second one, and then was positively surprised again in the next three. So you can say I'm in love/hate relationship with it :D I appreciate that it's not an easy task to adapt it for TV, though.

Rewatching Seinfeld now that its available on Netflix here in Europe at least.

I still laugh if I had watched for the first time.
