Rian Johnson will no doubt render the new film with a completely different look from Abrams. In examining his older work (Looper & Brick) he seems to be into gritty tones, while Bros. Bloom showed us rustic & exotic locales alike.

When perusing the IMDB page... it looks like the concept team looks completely different from the one used for VII... granted, I know it's possible Chaing & others will return... I noticed Johnson brought in the artist Jock to do concepts (http://io9.gizmodo.com/jock-unveils-sleek-dreamy-concept-art-for-ex-machina-1679557115)... when looking at his art it seems he likes to reduce images to simple elements. He did the concept work for Ex Machina which is a great film but nothing like Star Wars.

I'm also thinking about the methods by which Johnson will work... if I recall he said he too would be shooting 35mm. Perhaps he might not be as rushed as JJ was in creating the film, so I'm expecting the props & sets will be even more fleshed out that what we got in the last film... hopefully more models?

I can see The a republic getting a much needed upgrade and blending with The Resistsnce and having superior tech to The FO and the tables will be turned with the bad guys on the losing side, but they somehow still come on top by the end of VIII .

Given the style of his work, I think weapons will have a more primitive but destructive and effective quality when compared with the clean, shiny laser rifles of VII (e.g. the sawed off shotgun in Looper). We may even see more chemicals and technology meshing with biology in disturbing ways, and a greater exploration on Kylo Ren's telekinetic powers. All of these elements were played with in Looper. Let's keep the weird time travel plots out of the movie though.

MAYBE --- Snoke will his ability to change his looks, but stays his ugly looks because he needs to be a "face" for The FO .

Oh yeah that's a good point... I'd like to see some unconventional weapons in the film.

One thing I forgot to mention in my original post... Kennedy mentioned that EP 8 will be filming in Mexico, & then return to pinewood... so apparently only one true outdoor environment will be in this film... that concerns me. I hope it's just some vague decision & that they might venture out to other locations throughout the shooting schedule. So we'd only get Skellig (what's that planet name?) & a mexico-ish world. Hmmm. (rogue 1 is filming there too I believe?)
