SPECULATION What "twists" do we expect?

Born on Tattooine and abandoned on Jakku? That's just cruel. LOL.

In all seriousness, I do have a number of reasons to think and expect this.

 

Not much would be surprising I expect some betrayal.

My far out unlikely theory which borrows from Aftermath

The Resistance itself is Imperial Remnant and secretly some members are 1st Order operatives. In the final book of Aftermath the Imperial propaganda mastermind begins trying to paint the diminishing Imperial forces as the underdogs against the New Republic. In a conversation about it he says "we will become the Resistance." Its more than 20 years before we see the real signs of the 1st Order, but the ominous place in the conversation cast a shadow. In the final chapter of Bloodline Leia secretly starts the resistance but it obviously grows. Could it be that the centrists or 1st Order operatives in place already in the New Republic join Leia's plucky band of freedom fighters.

Another twist and this isn't mine

Rey was somehow involved in the destruction of the Jedi temple or events that lead to it. Its possible going back to the first few EU books after ROTJ one of Luke's students free and get possessed by an ancient Sith spirit. The student is freed and the spirit runs amok trying to possess Luke. Now Rey was on Jakku 10 years or so before the destruction of the Temple but could she have been brought to the temple at a young age and while there did something to release a dark sider evil spirit, Snoke. She's "to blame" for Snoke getting free. She gets freed from his control or Snoke finds a better body to jump to and Rey gets left on Jakku and suffers mental damage memory loss regarding her history. Its not likely but it would surprise.

Shouldn't a thread about possible twists be a spoiler thread.

 

It will be revealed in a flashback that BB-8 is actually the offspring of R2-D2 and a one night stand he had with a gronk droid back on Yavin 4.
Which explains why BB-8 was so excited to see R2 in TFA and knew immediately he was under that tarp at the Resistance base.

 

It could also be viewed as anti-climatic, too.

 

Wouldn't be much of a "twist" if we expect it...

 

The twist is no twist.

Rey is a Skywalker. Snoke is just "sum nu dude". Luke just gave up. Ben/Ren is just a whiney, self centered brat & The big dark secret is the Jedi just had a case of misguided direction.

Everybody gets equally disappointed so everybody wins.

Is it? The only major twist was that Vader was Luke's father and aside from that being one of the biggest twist in cinema history, it's also a reveal that shaped the entire saga.

I noticed there's this idea that STAR WARS has major twists and turns but I don't see that as the case. There's no twist in Attack of the Clones, and really only one major twist in the 7 movies thus far.


I believe there might be some reveals in The Last Jedi, Rey's parentage, maybe Luke was the one who created Knights of Ren, Kylo isn't looking to kill Luke, just wants to find him. Things that make us go ohhh, and provide answers to some questions we had coming out of TFA

 

I'd like to see things get real dark and messy. Just for kicks...

How about Kylo, after murdering his father, feels extraordinary remorse. He's feeling no greater sense of power due to his actions. He starts to question his loyalty with Snoke. He's paid a visit by the ghost of grandpa who's a demented combo of both Anakin/Vader (like the cool concept art). This time Anakin comes through for a nice pep talk about his own mistakes, redemption, and all that jazz. He considers his situation and reflects on his encounters with Rey on Starkiller Base. He understands the "awakening" of the force, and he understands the severity of his actions. But knowing that his grandfather was redeemed he decides that he might have the ability to do the same.

Meanwhile on a cliff somewhere in the ocean, Rey is mega disappointed with Luke Skywalker. He's become a grumpy cynic who wants the Jedi to "end." He initially refuses to train her, but after a ghostly encounter with Yoda and Old Ben he reluctantly agrees to train Rey but has his own motives for doing so. He's failed his nephew, himself, Han, Leia, and the galaxy as a whole. He desires to end the entire Skywalker lineage in order to stop this from every happening again.

The First Order is in hot pursuit of the Resistance after they leave D'Qar. After a large space and ground battle, Leia is captured and brought aboard Snoke's star destroyer where she meets her son for an emotional reunion. She rearrfirms Kylo's secret desires for redemption. She remains a prisoner of the First Order.

Rey and Luke meet with Kylo and Snoke at the end of the film. Kylo seeing his uncle again feels a greater sense of remorse for all that he has done. He turns from Snoke, seeking redemption. However, Luke isnt having any of that. His sole purpose in training Rey was to have her help him destroy Kylo. To destroy the Jedi... To destroy the Skywalker lineage.

With the knowledge of Leia's capture, The Restistance launches a full scale attack on Snoke's Star Destroyer.

Rey finally sees that she's being used and withdraws herself from the inevitable duel about to take place.

Snoke looks upon the situation with pleasure while he senses both Kylo's betrayal and Rey's disgust in Luke Skywalker.

Kylo pleads with his uncle, but gets hacked up. He looses a few limbs and is beat up pretty bad. He stills longs for redemption. Seeing this, Luke understands what he has done. He justifies his motivations but feels a great amount of remorse. Much like Kylo.

Luke spares Kylo's life and attempts to flee the heavily damaged ship. He asks Rey to come with him but she refuses unless they take Kylo with them. Luke reluctantly accepts. She suddenly feels a strange connection with him, although she remains angry about the death of Han.

They all rush to attempt to rescue Leia only find her helping other Resistance prisoners on a crumbling detention block. She orders them to go on and help the remaining prisoners escape. Luke hesitates, we get a nice, touching reunion. Luke eventually listens to his sister and gets off the ship with Rey, Kylo, and everyone else.

Leia is on board as the ship explodes.

And then Colin Trevaro has to fix it.

 

I’m thinking that two major twists or surprises. Ahsoka comes back and she convinced Luke that the Jedi way was flawed. And that Snoke resurrects Vader. There has been a theory going around that Snoke resurrected Sidious so that Kylo could learn more about his grandfather. But why resurrect The Emperor when you can bring back something even better? Vader himself.

 

Finally someone agrees with me about Ahsoka! Lol

Which one? Vader returning or Ahsoka returning or both? I think that both are quite possible at this stage.

 

Both - but espically Ahsoka.

 

The truth about what really happened at Luke's Academy.

 

It could be, if they're from the 1st order, it could surely change the view Rey has of the conflict.

There are good people in the first order too, there are bad people in the resistance.

The dark isn't that dark and the light isn't that light.

 

WHY?????????? What wrong with Ahsoka returning???
