The look of Obi-Wan in Episode 3 is the best, but detective kenobi from episode 2 is my favorite.

I like Obi-Wan's hairstyles in TPM and ROTS. As I've grown older I'm less attracted to the mullet look, though I can see how Obi-Wan might grow one as a desperate attempt to look cool until his beard fills in. :D

TPM. Ewan's performances in the second two were great and they were pretty spot-on for what we'd expect of Obi-Wan, a wise teacher. TPM was seeing him in a little bit of a different light, he's the student, younger and a little immature and yet still very believably Obi-Wan.

ROTS's Obi-Wan is the best as this is the character come into the original one - what he was meant to be as it is.

(I don't quite like the hairstyles in TPM and AOTC but these are just cosmetic nitpicks...)

The only slight disagreement I have with the above is the need to compare Sir Alec and Ewan McGregor. Both of them are equally good in my opinion. No need to say that one is better. Also, since Sir Alec made the character what he is and the end goal of what they were going towards in the PT and was what Ewan was aspiring to imitate to become I cannot say that Ewan's Obi-Wan is the best of the two. But I think they are equally great, at least to me.

I think that the TPM Obi-Wan fits great with what Force ghost Kenobi when he reminds Yoda trying to convince him to train Luke that he was himself also once reckless and impatient ("He will learn patience. Was I any different...(when you trained me)?"etc.)

The reason I feel Ewan is the better of the two, is because Obi-Wan got to be expanded upon when he played him. I think with that, I just liked his interpretation a bit better as a result. The character still has a lot of background that's not relieved, but I just was able to connect to Ewan's Obi-Wan more than Alec's myself. They're both great though.

I'd vote for ANH era Kenobi (as would @SKB I believe), but assuming that this is PT angled due to the nesting of this thread, I'd have to go with ROTS for cinematic version.

All said and done, my favourite depiction visually has to be the Clone Wars General Kenobi - as it's the one time that the costume really gets the Jedi Knight aspect, blending the monk-like Jedi robes with the armour that you'd associate with the Knight part of the title:

For me, Sir Alec Guinness's original performance is the epitome of the Obi-Wan Kenobi character.

Even when Ewan McGregor was playing the younger Obi-Wan, Ewan was actually mirroring Sir Alec's performance with the same grace, style and vocal mannerisms of Sir Alec, but done in a younger, more naive and more energetic way.

This thread is in the Prequels forum, that's why the options are limited to that era.

I was going to say ROTS, but I'm not a fan of the moment when he drops down to surprise General Grievous. It just seems like such a poorly thought out strategy and ends up putting himself in needless danger. Other than that, I loved his character in ROTS, but I loved seeing him actually train Anakin a little in AOTC. I wanted more of the mentor.
