Here's a speculative idea for one of the original cuts of Rogue One's ending at the Battle of Scarif before the reshoots. For the record, though, I loved how the ending played out in the theatrical cut!

    1. Jyn and Cassian successfully retrieve the Star-Dust hard disk drive from within the Imperial archives tower and make their way out of the building. Notice K-2SO is not blown to bits.
    ROGUE-ONE-A-STAR-WARS-STORY-Official-Teaser-Trailer.mp4_.00_01_12_04.Still002-1200x675.jpg

    2. A U Wing comes to the rescue of our two heroes after the shield is broken.
    AN1-FF-000073.jpg

    3. Our heroes exit the U Wing and race towards the transmission tower.

    2. They traverse through the tropical beaches, because they need to make it to a satellite dish for beaming the plans to the General Radus' Mon Cal spaceship. Notice in the early trailer how the dish is on a separate tower, which is independent from the Imperial archives tower.
    Rogue-One-AT-ACT.jpg

In the film version, the satellite dish is atop the Imperial archives tower, and the switch to reroute the telecomm data is near Bodhi Rook. Rewrites could have added that whole sub-plot with the switch...in addition to having Cassian and Jyn never making it down to the beach again, that is until the very end when they are consumed by the mushroom cloud whilst embracing.

What a wonderful Star Wars story!

Actually C2-B5 is in the film. Look the scene when the whole Scarif base is in alert with the Scarif troopers and Stormtroopers running, while Cassian is walking in Imperial officer clothes...

I was really looking forward to these. :(

And this one, too, which must have been where Vader has his line about "power" that Edwards mentioned.

Almost seems like they toned down the "war" parts just a little

In the scene where the Tie Fighter pops up at the tower in front of Jyn it was then shot down by an X-wing, they felt the scene was redundant after they did the same thing with the At-At just moments before that

Something I've been thinking about (a product of the reshoots, or a later change?) is the dynamic between Krennic and Vader. If you look at the trailer line, "The power that we are dealing with here is immeasurable," Krennic seems quite arrogant around Vader (almost like Mendelsohn's character Daggett in The Dark Knight Rises around Bane). In the final movie, though, he's quite timid during his scene with Vader. So I wonder whether a) they changed his character to be more afraid of Darth Vader (more likely) or b) whether the scene in the final film maybe came after the "immeasurable" scene - and Krennic somehow got put in his place for that.

I wanted to watch that scene!
In the IMAX tv spot there's a little difference, Krennic says: "The power that we are dealing with is"--then it cuts to another scene and he says--"awesome." And in the movie he never says awesome or the other line about power.
The phrase I liked from the IMAX tv spot and is included in the movie, is when they fire at Jedha and Krennic says: Oh...it's beautiful.

I don't think an extended cut, even if they would do one which they won't since the canon policy doesn't mesh well with there being multiple versions of any of the movies, would end up with many of these scenes being reintegrated into the film. The specifics of how the third act played out for the individual characters was fundamentally changed in the reshoots, if these cut scenes are any indication.

Looking at the trailers versus the film ... does anyone think in the original version characters made it out alive and in the reshoot they decided to kill them all?

The opposite of what some of us were worried about.

I think the information about the option in Felicity Jones' contract could indicate that at some point Jyn was supposed to have survived. At the very least it's quite possible that most of the core characters didn't die one by one but rather were all consumed in the shot from the Death Star, which would have been less impactful emotionally, at least for me.

Some of this has been covered already but I went through the trailers and found about 40 shots that were cut/altered... and that's not even all of em.

This sad look by Jyn is not in the film.

The "I, Rebel" line is not in the film.

The banter with Jyn where she says "Yes, sir" is not in the film.

This awesome pose by Krennic is not in the film.

I don't recall seeing this particular angle of the hovertank.

Bald Saw was not on Jedha.

I don't recall seeing this shot in the film.

This shot of hostage pilots was not in the film.

Running out of the Citadel with the data tape was not in the film.

This shot was possibly reversed in the film.

Sadly, this awesome shot of Krennic among dead stormtroopers was not in the film.

This speech about continuing to fight is not in the film.

This very cinematic and exciting shot is not in the film.

I'm most sad about this shot not being in the film.

This shot of a stormtrooper scouting the distance is not in the film.

Jyn and Cassian fighting on the beach is not in the film.

This shot of Jyn giving that little girl a fruit is not in the film.

I don't think Krennic was ever in the Death Star above Scarif (assuming that's Scarif).

Jyn running with the tapes on the beach is not in the film.

Another shot of Cassian on the beach that's not in the film.

I don't recall Jyn ever making such a jump on Eadu.

This shot of Jyn and bald Saw talking outside is not in the film.

We never see stormtroopers in knee high water.

We never see Bistan make that awesome laugh.

This quick shot was in the sizzle reel but it's not in the film.

I don't recall Jyn and Cassian fighting with stormtroopers here. K2SO did all the work.

This creepy/cool shot of the Death Trooper is not in the film.

This shot of the Rogue One team running on the beach is not in the film.

This "Good" "Good" scene between Jyn and Cassian is not in the film.

The lines "They destroyed my home" and "I fight the Empire now" are not in the film.

This funny scene of K2SO saying "I will not kill you" is not in the film.

The "He means well" line is not in the film.

This shot is not in the film. A Tie Striker creates the tension instead.

This shot of Vader is not in the film.

This overhead shot of the U-Wing and statue is not in the film.

This awesome reflection shot of Vader is not in the film.

This shot and great line by Krennic is not in the film

We never see Moroff on Scarif. He was only briefly on Jedah. (so, is he an extremist, or rebel?)

We never see this shot or anything like it.

I don't recall seeing K2SO running on the beach.

There's other small stuff they changed or left out. But that's ALOT of stuff, and some of it could have been iconic. I give the crew credit for pulling off so many changes in reshoots/rewrites to achieve the ending they needed.

Looks like Vader was originally supposed to be on the Death Star when it appears over Scarif.

Well the good news is they'll have plenty of deleted scenes and alternate takes to use to recreate the actors with CGI 20 years after they die.

Opps, just realised I should have asked this question here, rather than in the reviews section.

Are we now assuming Jiang Wen's (Baze Malbus) supposed accidental blabbing about being an imperial agent was a subplot that got completely deleted based on the rewrites and reshoots, or a cunning red herring? There's absolutely no sign of it being amongst the deleted scenes from what we've seen?

So everyone has noticed that some of the shots in the trailers were not in the movie. I wanted to list out those shots and get people's thoughts on what they thought was good / bad about them not being in the movie.

    Going off memory:
    1. Jyn Erso saying "I rebel" - I think it was good this was not in the movie. I thought it was really cheesy when I saw it in the trailer.
    2. Jyn running across the beach with the Death Star plans in her hand - Makes me think there must have been been some big changes, because Jyn never got out of the tower with the plans.
    3. Baze saying "I fight the Empire now."
    4. The shot of Vader's reflection in the computer console - I was surprised we did not see this in the movie, because I felt like Gareth made a big point about how this was an example of how having physical sets gives you really cool things you would not have thought about otherwise.

    What else was left out?
