The TIE fighter when Jyn is at the top of the tower.

That scene looked awesome and I was kind of bummed when it didn't happen.

Did we ever see the stormtroopers riding those tall creatures we saw artwork for on Jedha?

I know that but I think it's still possible to weave it in with the canon ending still intact. If not, then they can just release the uncut deleted scenes and call it non-canon.

You could get away with slightly longer scenes of things we have in the theatrical release, but any new scenes may contradict the book, audio book and anything else.

It just depends if they have enough of that footage to warrant adding another 10-20 mins into the film? My guess is probably not?

They do. Gareth said they have hours and hours of footage. Besides, I dont see anything wrong with releasing it and announcing it as non-canon.

They will more than likely just end up doing the standard deleted scenes as bonus material play. I don't think those are considered canon anyway.

If they were to do an alternate "cut", I'd rather they allow Michael Giacchino to re-score the movie as he would have if had the usual amount of time for doing so and release that as it's own edition.

I think it was cut do to pacing.....

They probably had another FINN type trek crossing the desert. Perhaps, there was more discussion about stuff that was cut out of the film later.

Often, when an editor starts cutting out scenes it can have an effect on previous or future scenes. This could be the case.

Reshoots are necessary on almost all films and the vast majority of films have money set aside as well as dates scheduled for this.
In the case of Rogue 1, everyone got busy and it was difficult to get the people needed for certain scenes.
(Look at Whittaker and Mendelsohn's IMDB page, busy fellas in the next year or so).

I think the reshoots were needed to get the right feel for the story. It's a very story driven movie. It's Dirty Dozen in Star Wars.

I think saw didn't test well and they cut him from the second half of the movie, and made him weirdly give up and die on jedha. You can see his alien crew on scarif in the BTS footage. I think the rebels originally got pinned down/ needed help on scarif and Saws group comes in to save the day.

Why do Saw's rebels have X-Wings? When did the Alliance get them? Did Saw steal them? Originally that X-Wing was a Alliance X-wing crashed on Jedha City. It was changed 2 a Saw X-Wing.

That would make sense (though I'm not sure why he wouldn't test well)

From just the movie we saw, he was weird and ineffectual to me.

The book made it clear that he didn't escape Jedha because he didn't want to slow anyone down, but the movies made it seem like he was a fierce badass warrior one day, and then just decided not to escape. He didn't die fighting off anyone to buy time, he just chose not to get on the ship.

A term used in the film industry for material in trailers that doesn't make it to film is "trailer trash". It's not technically false advertising. After all, one must consider stuff like Deadpool, in which strange and viral ad campaigns were used, and basically none of which made it into the final product (for the best, obviously).

Suicide Squad got a lot of flak for this, and while I find it silly to sue a film studio over a trailer, I think there is one big difference between SS and Rogue One: Suicide Squad knew the Joker sells, so they featured a ton of shots of him in the trailer that never made it to film. This was almost assuredly intentional- the Joker gets asses in seats.

As for the Rogue One stuff- well, there's a very obvious potential parallel to that- Vader. Yet, what we see of Vader in the trailers is minimal, and I believe every shot of him in the R1 trailers made it to cinemas. Sure, there were some cool looking shots that didn't make it to the final cut, but I have to assume this was an intentional decision. If they intentionally wanted to trick us into watching the film, we'd have seen more Vader in the trailers.

Not every shot of Vader made it. The one of him in front of the tactical red screen on the Death Star didn't make it, and also the conversation with Krennic where Krennic uses the word "immeasurable."

Gareth Edwards originally submitted a script where the crew of Rogue One all survived. Saw's Partisans were probably going to be the predictable cavalry who saved the day at the end after the protagonist convinces the cynical veteran to give a damn again- i.e., Han at the end of ANH. That would have been horribly predictable, and I'm glad they changed that. Unfortunately, that meant that they had a character whose arc was cut short. So they gained a less conventional, and more interesting ending, but at the cost of a character having a more conventional and complete character arc. Overall, though, I think the result was much better.

So many potential great scenes replaced with...another great scenes ;)
I'm happy with the final cut - 3rd act is very dramatic and emotional.
Evrey death of main characters is heartbreaking - if that was one of their goals during the reshoots - good job!
The ending of the movie is made not in Hollywood style - nice achievement.

I just read that the IMAX version of R1 has a very different vader scene at the end.
