When Han and Leia are talking on D'Qar and Han mentions that after Ben turned evil he went back to the only thing he was ever good at, Leia says "We both did." What exactly was it that Leia's referring to?

    I assumed politics/leadership.

On a side note, that whole scene between Han and Leia seems heavy-handed to me. It's like they knew we were listening and had to say all those things to inform us. Exposition is too obvious.

Yeah, politics. Read Bloodline. Very illuminating, she is a natural leader. A lot of Amidala in her.

Don't be so hard on them. A litlle plot-explaining was warranted at that time, since a lot of time passed since the OT, this was JJ's burden, to establish the franchise again. Now, I'm certain there will be less of this. There had to be some emotion between Han/Leia since there were going to kill Han off.

I'm not harsh, it's a minor gripe. This is one of few scenes that didn't work for me. Sure, it's important to explain stuff, but in this case the execution was clumsy IMO. The dialogue feels unnatural.

My money is on politics. Because Bloodline gives out info on what she is up to like 6ish(?) years before TFA, and the Aftermath trilogy gives us snippets about what she is doing after ROTJ. And politics is heavily involved in all those books.

I would like to see this... In the scene where Kylo is struggling with shooting the COC that she is in... I would like to see him fire, and her stop the bolts before they strike. That would be so awesome! Pointing to maybe that is a trick that he learned from her.. I am hoping that she is good at a great many things that we haven't imagined yet.

You could get super technical and say that the answer is unknown because the Resistance had formed prior to Kylo's turn.

    but...

As others have already said, that's it. Leading, fighting for the peace and good of the galaxy.

not sure that's true. it wasn't formed as of Bloodline and Ben hadn't turned, though likely was on the cusp of it.
suffice it to say, though, that i'm sure Leia was already considering putting together a group after the assassination attempt.
but a full-blown Resistance in opposition to the First Order in spite of the New Republic?
didn't exist yet, so far we know.

Technically no, it didn't exist in full. But, at the end of Bloodline there's a meeting between her and her old friends. And the last line of the book is Leia saying, "The sun is setting on the New Republic, it's time for the Resistance to rise."

It wasn't to fight against The First Order as they were still still in hiding, at least in name. But she knew there was a fairly large, radical military type organization of some sort out there.

right, so like i said, she's already in mind to get it in motion probably even as Ben is falling. but she still has responsibilities to the Senate, etc. (dwindling as they may be), so i can see her chucking it all: former work, marriage, etc. once she learns Ben is gone--in order to commit to standing against the FO (and this, therefore, being the thing she returned to which he was good at). it's a bit hair-splitting perhaps, but it feels fairly obvious at least to me that this is what she means. : D

Yeah you're right, my fault. I had completely forgotten she was still in the senate. Boy do I feel dumb, I just read the book last week.

So yeah, there's no getting technical about it, the answer is clear.
