Why not? Why does anyone decide to kill themselves? And why do they choose a particular moment?

Have you seen the movie...? He has turned his back on everything that the Jedi stood for.

Unfortunately I did. So the title of this movie is BS.

Saving Vader isn't what the Jedi would have done either.
    He was a lost cause.

Leaving their training to confront Vader isn't what the Jedi would have done.

Becoming attached to Han, Leia, Chewie, R2, 3PO etc...isn't what the Jedi would do.

Since when, exactly, has Luke done things "just because it's what the Jedi would do"?

I'm betting he is no more than 14 years old.

In any case the title is not BS. Luke was the last Jedi... Kylo told him, "you are the last Jedi, and when you die so will the Jedi." Then Luke responds. "Everything you just said is wrong". The title is in reference to Luke being the last Jedi. And he is. When he died, there were no more Jedi. Now we will have to wait and see if they are reborn in IX.

Didn't his other robes become wet in the rain storm when Rey confronted him. Seriously, you don't walk around in soaking wet clothes. You change. And that's really all there is to it. He switches between two pair of clothes because those are really the only two sets he has.

As for the suicide. When it was revealed in the movie that Luke was a projection, the first thing that went to my mind was: he has killed himself because it would be the only way to be there. Then it showed Luke's actual death. Was it a 'natural' death where Luke was so weakened by what he just did that he needed to let go, a bit like Yoda. Or was it a death with a bit more agency. A sacrifice, because he new that would be the only way to help save everyone. In both cases, very noble, and very much like the Luke I remember who threw away his sabre because he knew that would be the strongest thing to do.

Doesn't the editing of that scene imply that Rey is the last jedi?

    Like what ?

This is true actually. I don't know if it's mature or not and I don't care but when someone disagrees with me, I'm not hitting the troll buttons because I respect other people opinions.

Having Luke suiciding from a cliff like that is just the most terrible idea ever.

Especially those delighted with the idea of Rian Johnson taking a dump on some people's sofa.

That's a metaphor. Not the best one but the most eloquent one.

That's where we are right now.

When I picked up saracastically the Canto Bight part as the most brilliant of the movie, I had 10 likes and 4 greats posts even if it is the most terrible arc of the whole saga ...

That's where we are right now on this cantina.

    No, you don't.
If you did you would have engaged in an actual debate beyond "whatever, you'd like it if he pooped on a couch".

I'm sorry the idea of Luke not being perfect is upsetting to you.
But no one is. None of your heroes are.

Luke started the film in despair feeling responsible for the deaths of his students and the turning of his nephew. Thanks to Rey and Yoda, he ended the film telling Kylo Ren that Rebellion has been reborn. The war was just beginning. And he will not be the last Jedi. He got to end his life with "peace and purpose" returning as the Legend the galaxy needed.

This time though , Luke needed some redemption. It's been hard for many fans to accept Luke as flawed, but I believe it sets up the furture nicely. An original and powerful way to move forward. Not a copy cat of Obi-Wan or Yoda.

There's a slight difference on being not perfect and be a complete sore loser like there is a slight difference on being nobody's daughter and having your parents selling you for booze.

This movie is a whole character bullying two hours long.

And as long as you have stricly no love for your characters, I don't see why I would have any love for this movie.

And he's gonna kill himself this day after 15 years ? Who's gonna buy that ? He's not feeling responsible at all because if he felt like that, he would have try to fix it, that's what real men do when they do bad.
