SPECULATION What was on that island?

Before I dive into this, let me say I was appalled by the high amount of references to OT, and ANH specifically, but what I'm going to talk about below is stuff that will pay off in Episode VIII, I'm optimistic, because JJ isn't directing and had to put that stuff in to payoff in the next movie in a big way.

I don't have screenshots and have only seen TFA twice. I'd appreciate screenshots even if they only blow my theory out of the water.

I noticed two things on that island at the end of TFA.


The first looked to a sort of spacecraft parking lot. I'm not kidding. It looked like three weather beaten and rather old ships. I saw a bunch of yellow in that shot. The first thing I thought of was the Naboo fighter from TPM. That struck me as something sneaky and unexpected. It would also help explain how Luke could get to the planet and not be tracked. He went to Naboo in his Xwing, intentionally crashed it, and stole one of the old Naboo fighters. His grandfather and grandmother were from Nabok, they were obviously powerful and rich, he might have family left on Naboo that secretly helped him. No one would be looking for one of those fighters. (I have no idea what is canonical now)

Also, that yellow could be a Y wing. Those would have been in service for at least 20 years when Luke disappeared. He could have used a Jedi mind trick on someone in the resistance and fled in one of those old ships. One of the ships looked like it had a similar shape to the one that flew away from Jakku as well as same color (that heather grey used in SW ships often).

I wonder why he has two or three ships at the first Temple. He may have been away collecting younglings when Kylo struck. He burned all the bodies of his older students and went into hiding. He is training those kids in secret, possibly. Kylo never met them, so he was able to hide them.


The second detail that grabbed me was what looked like a box and mechanical parts. He may be teaching his secret Padowans how to build a lightsaber themselves.



Maybe he took apart his green lightsaber, or found these pieces in a box and is rebuilding the first ever lightsaber, one that has special, mystic powers.

If he has new students, they would be told to scurry off and hide when Luke feels the presence of a ship enter the atmosphere, but he sees the Falcon and waits, and is probably suspicious, as he likely felt Han's death. He sees the lightsaber and knows what Rey is asking of him, asking him to rejoin the fight.


That wooden box and the mech parts is key somehow. Rey notices them for Petes sake.

The most likely thing is that it is Luke's green saber, taken apart and stored. Luke removed himself for now, but knew he would have to rejoin the fight someday.

He felt the awakening of the Light side in a new, powerful person. He dug up that old green lightsaber, and was rebuilding it when he felt Han's death. Now, someone has arrived and it is the person who he will train, and it's his daughter, Rey.

I know I'm throwing a bunch of possibilities at the wall, but Luke is barely in TFA, but there were several odd clues that can help move the Jedi story forward Kylo and the Knights (great doowhop group name) and Supreme leader Smeagal, I mean Snoke. (Seeiously, Snokes design is quite possibly the egregious instance of plagiarism and biggest letdown in TFA, both crowded fields to say the least.

 

There is definitely a shot with a small wooden box and some random mechanical parts. Even Rey turns to look at them.
