SPECULATION What will be Luke's first lines in Episode 8?

"I find your lack of beer disturbing."

"Judge me by my beard, do you?"

"I've altered the child support deal. Pray I don't alter it any further"

"Ma'am, the possibility of successfully convincing me to rejoin the fight is approximately 3,720 to 1."

"I suggest a new strategy, Rey: let the First Order win."

 

this question has been bugging me...every star wars movie has a several year gap between episodes, so what can possibly be in the opening crawl if ep 8 starts up right where 7 left off?

 

but you see where i'm coming from, right? The opening crawl won't have much plot to catch us up on if no time has passed.

"...Father"

for me there are things that point to ep8 carrying straight on, and some things telling me there will be a gap.

supporting a gap between 7 & 8:-
there has always been a gap between films.
The first Order has just been dealt an almighty blow and probably needs rebuilding.
surely switching directors between 2 films that literally carry straight on from one another is not advisable? it just doesn't make sense to me. to get continuity and the same feel.. Rian Johnson would have needed to have filmed those last scenes on MS. (by no means do i know what i'm talking about btw)

supporting no gap and carrying on from that scene with Rey & Luke:-
we need to know what Luke says to Rey
we need to know what Luke says to Rey

now i realise that i used the same reason twice there... but it is such an important reason that i felt it needed saying again

I honestly imagine it picking up with them off-screen and we simply hear Luke saying "Patience... Patience" a la Yoda in ESB, before panning to a vew of Rey training.

It'd seem really weird for a Star Wars movie to pick up from the exact moment the prior film left off.

 

I would tend to agree. As much as I think a direct continuation would be good way to start, I feel that there will be a small pause. It could be that the movie picks up only two hours afterwards, to find Luke and Rey sitting uncomfortably across each other; it could be time have elapsed even more...

 

"Hey, do you have wifi on the falcon? The 4G signal is terrible here"

"Hey, you, can I bum a smoke off you?"

"Any spare change?"

"So, is Snoke Plageuis or not? The suspense is killing me."

"I'm not the Jedi you're looking for"

"Cool, the Falcon. Where's Han?" - awkward silence.

 

Probably something like Yoda. Maybe pretend he isn't even Luke. Maybe"I'm not Luke"

 

"The force is strong in my family. I have it. My sister has it. Ben has it....and we all know where that went sooo...no."

 

I have a feeling that we'll never know what the first words are the Luke will say to Rey. Episode VIII most likely won't start in the exact same scene where Episode VII left off. It'll probably be a year or more later.

In fact, we may never find out who Rey's parents are because of this. Maybe Luke tells her off screen during that time period, but the audience isn't meant to know...
