What's Kylo Ren Looking for in the Falcon?

    @AstromechRecords reminded me that i'd been meaning to ask this question.

    so we know the bluray/DVD release will include at least part of (and hopefully all of) a cut scene of Kylo Ren wandering around on the crashed Falcon on Starkiller base.



    this happens while Han and Finn are stuffing Phasma in the trash compactor, right before Poe leads his bombing run.

    the book describes the scene very briefly:

    that's the whole scene ~ Ren returns to Starkiller for his deadly confrontation with Han thereafter.

    so what's he looking for? he seems to expect to find something--to connect to something (even he doesn't know what?).
    maybe in that last moment, he does (it's hard to tell).

    i don't have any particular theories that i'm married to, so i'd be interested in hearing yours!

    what do you think?

    that'd be an interesting thing for him to be seeking: like what is it exactly though? a memory?
    makes you wonder how long it's been since he was on the Falcon (years, obviously).

    makes me also wonder if his own mind is a little swiss-cheesed perhaps?

    Well my interpretation is that he's so brisnwashed and delusional that he thinks the dark side is the only side and the light side is some bastardized version of the force. At the same time, his own memories, if any are even left , makes him all crazy about which side is "the right thing to do" and that's the memory he is searching for in a familiar place .

    I would have ashamed it's on The Finalizer ... He probably even dug up Padmé's corpse to get the necklace that Darth Vader made for her when he was a baby .

    If he knows his dad well then he would know that Han Solo wouldn't simply hide in his own ship...I would think that's why he baited his own father onto the middle of that platform and Han knew Han was walking into a trap and they both knew each other a moves hoping that neither of them would be right .

    well the troopers have searched the ship already and declared it empty, so i'm not sure about this. he obviously has a pretty strong tie to his father if he knows Han is on Starkiller the moment he touches down, but it's unclear whether he can pinpoint where exactly Han is.

    Han locked it in the glove compartment to hide it from him! hahaha

    interesting. yeah, i wonder how much of "home" he can actually recall at this point if he's been trying to kill off that part of him for so long.

    Yeah it would be interesting to see him actually STEAL the falcon by himself in VIII a which would explain the deleted scene .

    I think all Kylo can feel at the moment is pain and death. He seems to swing between the two extremes of rage, and detachment. He wanted 'something to speak to him', so I think he years to feel something besides pain and detachment, as he has lost his emotional compass, and only vaguely remembers the echo of what is was like to be guided by his heart. I think he was trying to remember a time of peace, when he wasn't torn apart.

    He was looking for the infamous galley so he could whip up a quick snack. :p

    Seriously, though...I think Kylo still loves Han, even though he also bitterly resents him. The novelization is vague about whether Kylo found the something he was looking for, but it seems to me he was looking for a connection with his father, something that might give him courage and strength one way or the other for the decision he knows he will have to make very soon.

    Being the novelization of a film with such esotherique element as the force, I think the author enhances the story as much as he can stating things that are opened enough so that there's no contradiction with the film. I don't think Kylo is looking for anything important. There's just a ship crashed on the First Order's megabase, and he goes there to investigate. He realizes is the ship of his father. Feeling as lonely as he feels, being there may not be easy emotionally, and he may be looking for an answer to "everything" and "anything", as the character does during the whole film.

    aww, this is lovely. hadn't really considered it this way ~ thank you!

    oh this is good and builds on what @Empire Jo said. if he's uncertain how to proceed, it could be a last ditch effort to feel something that will push his conviction.

    nicely stated. i'm pretty sure he knows it's his father beforehand (he senses it in the hallway preceding this scene), and i'm guessing he would recognize the Falcon on sight. but i agree: he's either feeling something there emotionally or puzzling at the fact that he doesn't (and wants to?).

    that was my feeling when i read the book. i'm so glad it was filmed, though. i hope we get to see the whole thing and not just him walking in.

    I remember hearing about it way before the movie came out and I was waiting and waiting and it never happened. Then I saw it was in the novel and not the movie and that annoyed me even more. I also didn't like that a lot of the stuff used in the promos weren't in it either. :mad:

    I can see how that can confuse people as it confused me with stuff and it frustrated me as well but I think it should have been streamlined between both the book and the movie .

    Seemed pretty clear that he wasn't sure what he was looking for. Kind of like coming back home after years in the military; I hadn't seen home in about 10 years, my dad's old 65 Chevy pickup in which I learned to drive was sitting out in the yard rotting away, hadn't been driven in years, since before he died. I remember going out and sitting in that truck, then looking in the glove compartment, then under the seat, popping the hood. I don't know what I was looking for, I didn't find anything worth keeping, but I was just looking...
