Depends on the characters involved and since she's already had one walk-off, where does Ahsoka's story go from here? If she survived the blast on her own, well, do I even have to go to Stu-ville? Rejoining the Rebels will only bring more Imperial scrutiny. Guarding the Temple makes no sense from a narrative perspective. How does Tano's survival benefit the story that Rebels is telling?

Now, if Vader let her live or protected her in any way, then what does that say about the wife that he joined the Sith for? Contrary to popular assumption, Tano was not brought into Rebels to face Vader. As Folcrum, her main role in the show was to unite the various Rebel-cells. As Ahsoka, her secondary role was to provide some insight to the other force users she encountered. Squaring off against her former Master, was just a bonus.

If they duel again, then this episode loses much of its gravitas.

She may not have been a Jedi, but she died like one.

I cannot think of a better way for Ahsoka to go...

sacrificing herself for Ezra & Kanan's sake.

It proves to me, without any doubt,

    that Anakin trained her well.

I agree, Ashoka is pretty much dead to Rebels, and as much has been confirmed by the show. The only other face off I could think of that may be relevant could be one against Sideous, but I don't really see that happening. It's not impossible her story continues though. Maybe she goes on her own personal quest of some sort, or has adventures in the unknown regions, or I don't know, there's much more creative people who could figure that out. I just would have thought she would have gone 'into the light' when she dies, not darkness. Reminds me of the first episode I saw on cable in TCW, where Yoda has that false vision about Anakin and Ashoka dyeing and Ashoka says something about will she still become one with the Force now she's no longer a Jedi.

Maybe she didn't survive the blast on her own, and maybe Vader didn't protect her. Maybe whoever/whatever was the convor avatar protected her because it had something important for her to do/learn? Btw, I have no idea what Stu-ville is, if you could please enlighten me on that reference I would be most grateful.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at here? Is it that he can't do anything non Sithy or good because it's somehow lessening Padme's memory?

I feel similarly in regards to most of your post though.

i WANT to beleive that Vader ended up saving Ashoka and is going to try to make her one of his very first "secret apprentices" .

The surviving characters were all seen in the light, except for Maul and was heading out into the great unknown. Having Ahsoka's ghost walk into the darkness was very symbolic, her life on the physical plain is over... only the netherworld of the force, awaits her.

Stu-ville is just as you wrote.... an over powered character with no logical explanation for talents/abilities. What makes Ahsoka; who is not a fully trained Jedi Knight, more powerful than all of the Jedi Masters, Knights, Sith Lords and their Apprentices who perished instantaneously the last time that Sith Super-weapon went off? If she lives, she's a Mary Su based upon the fate of the others who died from the same exposure.

"Anakin Skywalker was weak. So I destroyed him." Until Luke arrives on the scene with the last name of Skywalker, Vader wants to destroy anything and everything that reminds him of Anakin. Not killing her, isn't in his character... nor is saving her.

After calling him vile, I'm pretty sure she would rather die than turn to the dark side so she can join him. In my mind, she was certain they were both going to die, so she tried to reach Anakin by saying she wouldn't leave him this time... but Anakin was no where to be found. Vader answered her with a promise of death and anything less than that is a total failure on his part.

This is my thought too on Vader's intent. Either Vader left thinking the explosion killed her, or she was killed by Vader - I don't think there is any room for a mutual agreement or for her to have bested him and him retreating.

I really don't know what to think. The first time I watched the episode, I was adamant that by showing her in any capacity, she had to be alive, with the thought that the ending being somewhat vague, and having fans believe she is alive (many of them kids that might not get the vaguery of the image), and later finding out they were wrong would bite the creators in the butt. The second time I watched the episode, after reading much here, I can see a point to the imagery leaning heavily toward symbolic, especially with the convor crossing the screen and the image of taco fading in from it's "wake" across the screen...I can really see her being dead as well.

Ultimately, I would say she is alive purely on three readings of the tea leaves:
    • With the announcement of the Ahsoka novel coming out this fall, immediately after the show...I just can't see them bringing up an older story about her AFTER they killed her off in a vague manner, but not being specific about her death. Possibly after outright killing her, they could spin the novel as telling the untold story, but intending her dead but not being specific, and then telling only an old story of her doesn't seem as realistic as keeping her alive, and the novel gives a springboard for whatever they plan to do with her later.
    • I believe I read the show runners have basically said "regardless of her fate, her story in Rebels is over". A quote like that just doesn't seem like the thing to say if you did intend her dead...you could easily just be vague about it and not specify that she won't be back to Rebels (because she's dead and we didn't tell you for sure).
    • I cannot see Filoni killing off the character the he created without actual closure. I know he likes to be vague and cagey, but I just don't think he wouldn't give her a more ceremonial send off. As it stands, there is no way to have any confirmation of her death in the show, so either she is alive and she will pop up again somewhere, or she is dead and we will always wonder for sure...and I just cannot see that being the way he would want her remembered (as "maybe" dead). I fundamentally don't see her as a force ghost, without creating a lot of blowback from the fans, since having Vader be a ghost without learning as Qui-gon/Yoda/Obi-Wan did has already caused enough angst.

I speculate that Ahsoka told Vader "I wont leave you again". She left Vader when she left the Jedi, walked away from Anakin. This time she was not leaving. Vader cannot have an apprentice officially. Ahsoka joined Vader. She remained in the Temple to learn the Dark Side and she will be the founder of the Knights of Ren. She is the First Vader Groupie Force user. She will learn of Snoke through the Temple. She could not return with Vader as Sideous would not allow it. Vader/Anakin carries both light and dark side in him. He let her live on hidden from the Emperor.

Kanan will kill Maul against Ezra's wishes and push Ezra over the edge and to the dark side Ezra. will eventually return to the temple and join Ahsoka in founding the Knights of Ren. Ezra and maybe even Ahsoka will return EP 8/9/10. or maybe they will make some Prequel to TFA.

This will leave Kanan to die to Vader leaving only Luke, Obi and Yoda as Jedi.

I thought Ben Solo founded the KoR when he group hugged it out with five other disgruntled rich kids and decided to stab each of his uncle's students in the back, for no reason other than to collect more ashes. Or did I miss something?

I think your right though it is very speculative from what I have read. Scratch the founding of KoR.

Let's go with the theory that she survived which has to be not because of Vader's Mercy but because of a unforeseen event like the temple exploding or something happening to stop the fight. If there was an explosion it is very strange that Vader comes out looking like he got bullied by the upperclassmen and Ahsoka is apparently seen walking into the temple uninjured. I feel that the temple did explode, Vader was severely injured while it killed Ahsoka or Vader killed her before the explosion. This is not a farewell because we will see her return once more as a force ghost to possibly encourage Kanan who is struggling with the fact that his padawan is being seduced by dark side or has already fallen to the dark side.

    Just my thoughts.

Yeah, but it's just so ambiguous, isn't it? I guess I took it more as symbolic of her retirement from Rebels, not necessarily her death death. But in light of the above story posted by Master G, I kinda guess that was kinda the point.

Thanks for explaining the Stu thing, appreciate that.

I can argue this a couple of ways. Firstly, if you work off the assumption that she suvived off her own bat (which I don't favor), then perhaps being a Sith or Jedi is not the be all, end all, and she learned more than we realised durring her time after leaving the Jedi order. After all, she pretty much owned a couple of Inquisitors, when Kanan and Ezra seemed to be barely able to keep them at bay. Also, the weapon thing was only really firing up, it didnt really go off as such. Wasn't that why it exploded the Temple, as the firing sequence was aborted and then it backfired? Otherwise, all the dead ancient Jedi would be covered in the ruins of an exploded Temple. She could just be lucky, and the bits of the exploding temple missed her, but got Vader. However, I tend to think the Convor was an avatar of the Force, or Force being, and it may have had a role in guiding and protecting her. So potentially she could have had help from a higher power. I bet this will be explored in other media at some point.

I agree that not saving her and killing her is in his character, but Anakin/Vader has a long history of not getting what he wants. Just because he wanted it, doesn't mean it happened. The bond between Master and Apprentice was obviously severed, and she may have been sheilded by the Temple or the Convor, so Vader may assume she's dead as he may no longer feel her through the Force. Still doesn't mean she's dead.

I actually found this point of view quite touching, and I agree, but you expressed it in such an elegant and potent way. Sniff. And yup, Vader is no stranger to failure.

Anyways, I always enjoy reading your point of view, even if mine is a bit different sometimes, so thanks for the conversation. :)

If he does kill Ashoka I think that he's deluded himself into doing it just like how he killed the Jedi temple for Padme and "peace in the galaxy" and in his own words, "it's too late for me now, son" "".

I can see why she was your favorite, she did alright as Anakin's apprentice, I originally thought they would have retired her character but I'm glad they brought her back.

I think her character will play a major and impact the rebels in season 3. also think it will be her end as well. I didnt see the vote above but I wouldnt be surprise if they made her a jedi. I just started season 5 of TCW so dont tell me but already know that she leaves the Jedi, duh. but I think she goes and finds a way to save anakin and in the makings she get knighted like Kanan someway. If not then it doesnt bother me. I do want her to encounter Obi-Wan and/or Yoda before she ends. its just fitting that her character gets that from them since TCW. She holds her own in TCW and is great apprentice to Anakin. She does have that arogance/emotion that she gets from him but knows to patience. Just to fit it all in the SW saga her character has to end between this time frame.

From a narrative standpoint, I don't see what's left for her to accomplish, but I'm sure they'll find a way to tell that story. She's too big to leave her final destination hanging out there in perpetuity.

No worries. Its the little things that count. I once had to ask what TL;DR meant, so there's that.

I'd say Tano handled the Inquisitors better than Kanan & Ezra because she trained longer with one of the greatest swordsmen in the Jedi Order. She is older than Kanan, yes? As for Jedi and Sith (especially within the now defunct canon); for me at least, they are the be all, end all. Both represent the pinnacle of force mastery... one passive and selfless, the other aggressive and selfish. Sith did not concern themselves with other light side religions, but they did go out of their way to eliminate other dark side users. From Plageuis to Maul, we've seen them suffer no rivals.

I wish they would have shown how the last Inquisitor perished during the blast instead of allowing us to assume that he died from the fall (which Maul survived three minutes later) after his handle shorted out. It was covered in the episode commentaries, IIRC.

As for Vader, in the comics, he has survived this sort of thing (impossible odds) before when he took out Tarkin's son. When questioned by Palpatine, how he could survive for days trapped in the rubble of a building, his answer was simple: "The dark side gave me all that I needed to survive." --So there might be something to your belief that the force intervened on her behalf. Of all the options, I'm good with that because it doesn't detract from Vader's badassery.

So true, lol. No matter how bad that I want her gone, truth is, she's still out there until they put her in a funeral pyre and/or show us her ghost. I'll raise my espresso in advance to that being well-done, whenever we do end up getting it.

Where's a good :eek:hug:confused: smiley when we need one?

Maybe she actually seems to redeem anakin but all it is is that he's confused but he has someone else kill her instead in the end and turns back fully to the dark similar to Kylo ren's emotions .

No, this was made abundantly clear in ROJ:

    LUKE Yoda spoke of another.

BEN The other he spoke of is your twin sister.

The way I saw the Season Two finale was like Thunderdome. Two enter, one leaves.

I would like to believe that Ahsoka's fate has been settled, rather than to see Dave Filoni turn Yoda into another spin-doctor or liar.

After all, it doesn't matter whether Dave Filoni thinks that Ashoka qualifies as a Jedi or not.

The only thing that really matters is whether Yoda still regarded her to be a Jedi or not when he told Luke "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi (including padawans, knights and masters BTW) you will be."

They wouldn't not show her death. The emotional pull of such an event would be critical for the ratings of a S3 mid season finale, while the focus for the second half would be Ezra hunting down Maul/Vader.

Why in the world are people here even speculating about Ahsoka dying when we can clearly see her walking away after her battle with Vader?
