Okay, lets seriously talk about this... in the new Canon, almost every single work has dealt with the Imperial Security Bureau on some level, like its seriously getting freakish at this point how they are cramming the ISB down our throats.

When Kallus was first introduced in Rebels that was just the beginning of it, he seemed to be very strongly modeled after the "imperial agents" from Star Wars: The Old Republic... If you dont know, the agents in that game were created because they felt a "sith trooper" would just be a retread of the republic trooper.

... The weird part is, more so than any other story in that game Agent has been praised... despite it not having an archetypal equivelant in canon star wars, up until that point... now... Now tehy seem to be pushing that archetype into Star Wars.

And if you need proof of the fact that SWTOR inspired it, Kallus was at one point going to be a Chiss... and in SWTOR the Agent is the only class that has Chiss by default, and Chiss is considered the archetypal species for that class...

So I see where the ISB and Agents came from, their influence from the legends continuity... so why is it being insisted upon so strongly in the new canon? The only thing I can think of is that... it has something to do with TFA.

Here's a wild thought...what if KOR are actually a post-SW Version of The ISB?

its original I will give you that, although I think a safer bet would be something involving captain phasma.

I'm leaning more on either Snoke coming from the ISB or Max Von Sydow's character (wasn't there speculation that he could be the ISB officer from Aftermath?)...

I'm not sure about that part since I havent had the opportunity to read any of the books yet. i think Snoke would be TOO POWERFUL for The ISB, unless his abilities are all just a legend that he made up to seem powerful enough to rule the galaxy.

Yeah, the ISB are all over the new material. And so is an obsession with relics and collecting. You are onto something for sure.

ISB is current social commentary on the modern security state.

I'm not sure it runs much deeper than that. "New Dawn" made it very clear to me that it was a not so subtle poke at the NSA.
