How about Damian Lewis as Major Richard Winters in Band of Brothers?

His accent was very good but I don't think he fooled me. He didn't sound like a British person trying to sound American but he had a strange/distinctive voice that sounded vaguely American but unlike anything I've heard outside of a movie. Same for the guy who played Popeye Wynn.

I think British actors/actresses do a much better job of sounding American than Americans do trying to sound British......Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones comes to mind.....

I'm guessing it probably sounds equally bad to the people from those countries. There have been some hilariously bad attempts by both sides. When it comes to American accents the biggest disasters are usually when Brits and Aussies attempt the Southern accent.

Finn was given an American accent as a way to pronounce the status of Rey; the Britishness of Rey was the theme of TFA, and TFA benefited as a result

For me, as a german, there's just one problem with American accents: American English is - almost always (except of some strange british accents like Cockney) - much more difficult to understand. When I watch movies in english, I watch them with undertitles, but sometimes, I try to do it without them... and it's a lot harder with american movies than with british stuff (like "Sherlock").

But the hardest thing, I've ever tried to understand in English, is the australian english. I love "Farscape", but there is no way, that I will watch it with original tone ever again.
