To me it's their design that makes me dislike them. They don't look believable in terms of anatomy because they are too cartoony. Here's an image of what I would want them to look like Ewok Redesign Sketches 2 Web.jpg

I liked Ewoks very much. I like them now to, they give atmosphere to episode VI.

However I never fully accepted the fact they defeated an elite legion of Storm troopers send to the forest moon by Palpatine himself.

In fact, my kids are now preparing to play upcoming Battlefornt II game and there it says even most elite Imperial comandos were sent there.

Though it could be Commandos were sent to help and they were those elite troops Palpatine was mentioning, but the Death Star exploded before commandos fully engaged Ewoks and rebels on the Forest moon, so they simply lost chain of command and retreated.?

I liked them. I didn't think they were any more ridiculous than a backwards talking green midget Jedi Master in TESB.

Sam Witwer makes a pretty interesting case for the Ewoks being an extension of the Yoda lesson in this:

Ewoks aren't ordinary creatures, they're spartans.

    Ewoks, brave, but easily persuaded.

The point of the Ewoks was to showcase how a seemingly insignificant force can overcome the odds and defeat an overwhelming opposition. They were emblematic of the Rebellion and the truest essence of Lucas’s anti-Vietnam inspiration. Making them cute made them more toyetic and commercially appealing to children, which is where the vast majority of Star Wars revenue stems from.

That being said: seeing little people in teddy bear costumes, being an earnest threat, has always been (and always will be) incredibly stupid to me. They look ridiculous and their scenes drag the pace of the film down.

I get why they’re in the movie, but I think their concept could have been executed better.

I don't mind the Ewoks personally, but I think most people hated them because they were one of the first SW characters designed to sell toys first and characters second.
